This is my favorite part Cannibal Corpse history, because I am a singer also and I like to have complete control over the lyrics I feel were he's coming from, there was also a part where Alex says that he would hate for him not to be able to use something that he loves, and he would hate for the other people in the band to not be able to use stuff they love, except Chris, "there were certain things he loved that we did not want him to use"

Honestly Chris' ego is to blame for him not being on vile, his vocals still sounded fine on created to kill, I'd say by the late 90's is when they got super dry
His vocals sound amazing on the CTK demo.
@@bumface1810 They should have released it , and saved George for Gallery of Suicide. Then it would have been released in 95, and kept the momentum going
@@bumface1810 Created to Kill also features album art that's 100 times better than Vile
It feels like there’s definitely bad blood specifically between Paul and Chris
Mr. Barnes is CC hero.!!
Chris Barnes had the connections, he invented the logo, he was the tour manager ,besides being the frontman, and lyricist. They never would have gotten Vince Locke for the album art , and no Metal Blade Records Deal without Chris.
What if this whole thing is just an elongated explanation of how they didn’t want to deal with the “EEEEEEEEE!!” In the newer songs…
That’s basically it nobody likes that besides Chris
The thing about Chris leaving that I feel helped Cannibal Corpse is on SFU albums Chris loves to sing about getting stoned. Let's be honest if Cannibal corpse wrote songs about getting high I'm sure people would flip out. Imagine if Cannibal Corpse had the song "4:20" in their discography. It just wouldn't fit. Also Chris's inability to sing on tempo on later SFU albums annoys me. Regardless of weather people think it was a good idea or not to kick him out after what was arguably their most successful record, I feel like it was the right decision for the band's longevity.
Vile would’ve flopped if they went with created to kill instead Barnes is a bad singer
cannabis corpse exists for that reason lol
While George sounds more brutal (Monstrosity "Final Cremation" ftw) Chris just sounded more creepy and evil. Plus, the old logo is just fucking awesome (I drew that logo all that time). I still like newer CC but I feel after "Kill" they got a little samey. Newest record is the best in YEARS. Rutan is what that band needed. Anyway, despite Barnes being a douche, his era with CC is some of the most evil sounding shit they've ever done.
yeah, this didn't age well
George took care of his voice and he can still bring it all these years later. I have spoken.
@@toddwilliams8128 It is sad to see Chris' voice go out like this. I hadn't listened to SFU since early 2000's. Check them out recently and was just in shock how bad his voice has become.
@@toddwilliams8128 how did this not age well? Do you not have reading comprehension or was you just wanting to be an asshole.

Funny as fuck listening to all of these comments shitting on corpsegrinder. Mans a fucking brilliant vocalist. And they’ve produced plenty of great albums since Chris left, they are literally the biggest death metal band in the world. meanwhile Barnes is releasing absolute shite with six feet under sounding like someone deflating a massive hot air balloon.

My favorite part about Cannibal Corpse, is Cannibal Corpse.
Don't get me wrong Corpsegrinder is a hell of a death metal singer but I will never put him over Chris Barnes cause he doesn't write his own lyrics!!!
Yeah he does he just released his own album dude he doesn’t write for cannibal cause that’s just how the band runs now a lot of bands are like that
Hm I mean Chris lyrics sound like they're coming from a edgy stoned 16 year old. But I guess he does write lyrics himself thats true lol
dude its death metal. His lyrics fit the genre perfectly. And its what made CC what they are to this day. stop being a try hard
The problem is obvious, Chris let his ego get the best of him. He could have reworked some of his lyrics to fit the timing of the riffs better but he didn’t. This is a band and not one person. This is what happens to people that don’t work well with others...
Hmmmm....the 'Created To Kill' demo sounds pretty good to me man. Cannibal's music went downhill after the lineup change in my opinion. More technical and not as dark sounding (the old stuff just had that cryptic atmosphere) which is what put them on the map in the first place. George is an awesome vocalist but I thought he was so perfect for Monstrosity. Oh well, history is history.
The Bleeding sounds scary, catchy and technical. Other than Devoured By Vermin Vile sounds messy . The Bleeding was a much better album. They started recording too loud fake sounding drums on later albums, George always sounds good but the music just doesn't measure up to their first 4 . They are Brutal for the sake of Brutality, technical when it's unnecessary, and just not that memorable
@@vesuviacorpseflower4828 Agree. I read an interview with Alex or Paul and they said you could totally tell who was better by comparing Vile and Created to Kill...and I agree with that statement I just think it's Barnes.
@@dESTRON76 Yep...honestly, I liked (and still like) Six Feet Under 'Haunted' way more than CC 'Vile' when I bought both those albums in the summer of 1996. Barnes was just the epitome of a dark, creepy DM vocalist at that time and that's why I will always prefer early Cannibal Corpse. Are you into other 90's Floridian DM bands? (Disincarnate, Brutality, Resurrection, Solstice, Monstrosity, Killing Addiction, Apostasy, Deicide, Massacre, Eulogy, etc).
@@godetonter4764 Couldn't agree more man...Cannibal Corpse has just gotten way too popular over the years. I think they focus on all the wrong elements to keep up on sales. I think Bob Rusay should start another band!!
Chris should have started a stoner metal band since weed is a huge part of his identity.
WTF is Mazurkawitz yapping about??? The Vocals on the Bleeding were the best. He claimed that the Vocals were half assed on later CC albums is BS
It’s okay, Chris. Paul can run his mouth a mile a minute all he wants. We can all hear the Created to Kill demos, and it’s obvious Vile would’ve been a better, more memorable album with your vocals and lyrics. I don’t listen to post Barnes/Rusay Corpse after watching this documentary.

Makes me glad I got into Cannibal Corpse recently
I can appreciate the new and the old, all together
They kicked out the dude that got them noticed beyond just the guitar work and drum work. Chris Barnes voice and lyrics are legendary.
Chris Barnes also designed the original logo and acted as Tour manager. He developed the marketing strategies, and talked in the interviews. Other than Barnes the only contribution that the other members had was Alex Webster inventing the band name. They claimed that Rusay was kicked out because he wasn't growing as a musician. Which made no sense considering they recorded 2 successful albums with him already, I think that the real reason was his image. I truly believe that they got rid of Barnes for image, but the opposite reasons. Rusty looked very dorky for being in a Metal band, and they were jealous that Chris Barnes was receiving all the attention. I can't say that those are facts, but it's what makes sense. Got to take in consideration back then everyone in Death Metal bands had really long hair. Today they probably would talk Rusay into shaving his head
@@godetonter4764 nah Barnes was becoming a shitty vocalist and bob was good but no where near as good as their other guitarists they had good reason to make the choices they’ve made

I understand why they had to make the change, but I just can't get into them with George.
Had chris never left CC he would have dragged them down like he did SFU. His voice has deteriorated and CC made the right choice by replacing him with George. Chris's voice is destroyed while Corpsegrinder has lost nothing
Your cookie monster grunt vocals is fucken mean bro. Death metal is the fucken best metal genre. It cracks me up when chick's call it scary music.
Don't get me wrong I understand that things in a band can go from great to s*** like nothing and in no time at all, but I ate the thing I never understood about this whole situation with Cannibal Corpse is they just came off of their most successful album I think their best album The Bleeding I think Barnes is delivery on that album is f****** perfect not only does he kick ass with the growls but you can actually understand him for the most part which is something that had been a struggle for a lot of people who are just getting into the band with previous albums. I guess I just don't understand like what in the world could have been so bad about his goddamn delivery I should go listen to the demos I guess as I hear that they are now available offline but I don't know I just hated to see him go just because I liked his vocals I like his lyrics and I'll admit I don't like six feet under as much as I love Cannibal Corpse I do like corpsegrinder though he's awesome George's cool as hell but it just seems like a very odd thing to do right after your most successful album do not have any leeway or give whatsoever and not be able to work together to find a solution. Bunch of death metal primadonnas
I think chris barnes could still do the guttural false cord vocals. As someone whose in a band, and been that shit for years I in no way believe: your voice will just stop doing that timber. The later "barnes era" was a clear stylistic approach as he could still do that low as evident with the 1994 show with songs like "a skull full of maggots" being the best profomece I've ever heard of that song. He's high screen's might have made his voice weaker, (false cords won't tho) .
His voice didn't fit the (at the time) new material, he was literally holding back the band from being more technical and dynamic

Chris outlived his usefulness
Oh man Chris BarnEEEEEEEEs
I picked up on that too. Good on you for making this
Vile is ok, technical but not memorable songs, The bleeding is front to back killer, as for Barnes vs george, both are have unique voices in the genre, chris has better hooks , george idk sings fast , sentenced to burn was really catchy with him, but really as for vile it would have been cool with either to me
check out the created to kill demo with Chris Barnes its insane. Chris Barnes recorded vocal parts for all of the songs on vile before he left which ended up on the created to kill demo. (btw created to kill was the name for the album before it was called vile)
Vile sounds messy and poorly produced. The Bleeding was just as technical, but a lot catchier with superior quality production. Compared to the Bleeding, Vile sounds like a garage band recorded it
Like corpsegrinder but cannibal corpse Is Chris Barnes he sounded like a beast monster but George doesn't sound terrible but a step up from screaming
Paul didn't like how sloppy it sounded in the studio. Ironically funny.
