I made Pokemon Diamond & Pearl but I get weaker every battle (or "I Lose EXP"). I've seen a lot of 0 exp pokemon challenges, but leveling down makes things much more complicated. With enough strategy, can I beat this insane challenge?
Credits to Smallant for the idea. He originally did this in Pokemon Emerald, but used a level 70 rayquaza for the end game, and I wanted to know if a challenge like this was beatable without overleveled pokemon.

Onix is such a scary looking pokemon that even watching pokemon challenges, I still forget "onix has attack equal to an oddish"
Abnormally weak snake strikes again
I went to look this up because I couldn't believe it... Welp. It's actually wrong. It's WORSE... Onix has 45 Atk, Oddish has 50 Atk... I got surprised twice in a row tonight!
04:37 I think I can explain: Onix only has a base 45 Attack, which is lower than Bellsprout’s
Lower than a pikachu's
and the same as Jigglypuff "The Balloon Pokémon"
Onix, the garbage pokemon. Onix are bad, so never ever use them.

look this RUclips channel I'm commenting from I've had for 14 years come July 13th. I do happen to have a video on this channel with over 1 million views. I also have videos that gained traction faster than this one that didn't even get to 100,000 views. so just based on that it's pretty clear to me that this video that we are watching and commenting on here will not get to 1 million views, but like I said in the previous paragraph that's okay because it doesn't have to.
this video has performed quite respectably. especially considering it's the very first video from this channel that's quite a performance. I think my first video got like a hundred views or something. 😂

Very interesting. I saw your post on /r/PokemonROMhacks and initially thought "That's a stupid idea, who would want to play that?" But, after watching your video, I see how it presents a unique challenge. It'd be cool to see other generations get the same treatment.

This is the second video of yours that I've seen. I really like these challenges that are brought about by mods! Keep going!
So, here's a kinda weird challenge. How about........picking the pokemon type that is the weakest, when taking into account the most common pokemon types that you'll find and battle in whatever pokemon generation you pick. Either that, or the pokemon that has the most weaknesses. Then from there, the level that it learns certain moves is jumbled. So, you can learn really weak moves, or strong moves at random. Also, the stat gains you get when leveling up are random, so it's not garunteed when leveling up. Meaning, there's a possibility you'll level up and not get any stat gains at all. You are also only allowed to catch other pokemon of that type, nothing else.
I know this doesn't make it impossible, maybe not even too hard. I just think it might be interesting.

Cythia probably, but you'd need insane luck with double team. Toxic stalling could also work on most of her pokemon. I'd be much more worried about Roark though
@@whaley5593 switching around to spread the exp loss probably helps that strategy since it also means you dot. Faint as much

Now with the level down concept I would love to see the game essentially played in reversed
As in you pick a team at the beginning (or 1 Pokémon at lvl 100 perhaps) and start going doing from there
First fight being the champion, then elite 4 etc
don't know whether something like that is even technically possible or suitable as a challenge at all (in terms of balancing)

It seems possible but there would have to be custom encounters for your pokemon be sustainable as you level down and go through the game backwards

Onix is in the same base attack state pool as clefairy, butterfree, nidoran, Zubat. Major defense stat but absolutely abysmal attack which has always bothered me, such a behemoth Pokémon in the animes and so so bad in play throughs

Loved the concept, but i think allowing items and double team made the "challenge" trivial. Banning certain features like Switch Mode or items should be required to make the game at least a little bit challenging. And double team should be used as an absolute last resort option. Relying on luck + bad AI will net you a win eventually, with any Pokemon (especially in conjunction with X Items).
I personally consider a run "lost" when extreme cheese tactics have to get used.

It’s actually almost better game design since you are forced to catch and use the Pokémon around the gyms which usually contain some sort of effective Pokémon. Cool mod
You could think of it as Fire Emblem design with breakable weapons or maybe Breath of the Wild in how it encourages you to get creative. It is a shame that this doesn't seem to be an official feature in any monster tamers though I know some randomisers have caught on in Nexomon.
How would Rare Candy work with this mod? Would the level increase or decrease?
