- From New Line Cinema and HBO Max comes “8-Bit Christmas,” a humorous and heartfelt look back at the adventures of childhood. Set in suburban Chicago in the late 1980s, the story centers on ten-year-old Jake Doyle’s herculean quest to get the latest and greatest video game system for Christmas.
The film stars Neil Patrick Harris (upcoming “The Matrix Resurrections,” “A Series of Unfortunate Events”) and Winslow Fegley (“Come Play,” “Fast Layne”) as the adult and young Jake, respectively, June Diane Raphael (“Long Shot,” “Grace and Frankie”), with David Cross (“Pitch Perfect 2,” the “Kung Fu Panda” films), and Steve Zahn (“The White Lotus”).
Michael Dowse (“Coffee & Kareem”) directed the film from a screenplay by Kevin Jakubowski, based on his book of the same name. Tim White, Trevor White, Allan Mandelbaum, Jonathan Sadowski and Nick Nantell produced, with Nikki Ramey, Richard Brener, Celia Khong, Kevin Jakubowski and Whitney Brown executive producing.
Dowse’s creative team included director of photography Samy Inayeh (“Utopia Falls”), Production designer Andrew Stearn (“Awake,” “Ready or Not”), editor Trevor Ambrose (“Schitt’s Creek”) and costume designer Avery Plewes (“Ready or Not,” “The Umbrella Academy”).

I wanted a Nintendo soooo bad in 88. I was also 11 in 88. My mom ended up getting me the New version of the Atari 2600. She explained she just didn’t have the money for the Nintendo. I was sooo disappointed but I acted like that Atari was the Nintendo and smiled and put on a Happy face for her on Christmas Day. I got clowned in the neighborhood for not getting a Nintendo after I told everyone I was getting one. But one year later on Christmas of 89 she got me that Nintendo with the Power pads along with Mega man and Mike Tysons punch out. You cannot imagine the joy I felt. Best Christmas ever‼️ lol

I remember when my parents played "Mario Bros" on NES. They tend to lift up the controller while Mario jumps. Lol.
I did the same, yanked it off. The system turned off. But it recovered like a pro because the NES was built like a TANK.
But we were ace at games on the Wii when it came out..

They should make a sequel and it will be called 16-bit Christmas, and it will be about SEGA of Super Nintendo or something.
That would be awesome, my brother and I went to great lengths to get a Super Nintendo- street fighter 2 turbo was the game we needed in our lives..

I remember I was the first kid on my block to get not one but two Nintendo Gaming systems. As a matter of fact I still have both of them and one is still in the box never opened. My father hated that thing and claimed it was a waste of his money. The second one was a gift from my God Parents. Heck I still have the power Pad,the Power glove,and the super controller. And to make it even better I have a television set that has the Nintendo built in. And no my kids are not allowed to play with any of my gaming systems. New or old

Inwas reserves when I saw the trailer. I feared it was one of these, trying to be nostalgic movies by showing only products.
But no! It’s very funny, it’s a bit naughty, it’s ober the top! The characters and the dialog are hilarious! The kids are so perfectly cast and it brings this sense of 80s classics like Adventures in Babysitting, Ferris Bueler with a hint of John Hughes at the end.
Its so cleverly written and so well played.

This is hard to believe. The dad in this movie was a doctor in the late 80s and went by the name Dr. Howser if you don’t believe me.

I got a NES last June soooo....
My little brother had a NES, I had a PC and Atari ST. Later my little brother sold that NES for the same price as a SEGA Genesis to our neighbors, and he bought the SEGA. That I did play a lot when he was at school. And I bought one the year the PS1 came out, nice and cheap. And still have that. The PS1 I sold off. The only game I played was Driver.
