- Hello my friends!
In todays episode i'm gonna take care of this lovely laminated Ward iron.
There is still about 20mm of hard steel plate so it still can serve.
It is my second try to use it. Who remember the number of the video with first try? :)
First of all i had to straighten the iron, at the video you can see how bented it was.
The next step was grinding on the belt sander with magnetic table (made by Paweł Pruszyński).
In the video you can't see a lot of breaks for cooling - i've skip them during edition.
After grinding there was still some spots with rust so i put the iron to my sandblaster.
Sandblasting brings a really nice surface for cold oxidation wich was the next step.
After oxidation i've used a few drops of mineral oil and piece of 0000 steel wool for cleaning.
I love how the iron came out. For sharpening i still use the methods wich i showed in my 063 video, i don't want to show this process once again. If you want to see it go here:
• 063 Freehand sideways ...
Now the Iron is ready for ebony wedge and mouth closer. You will see it in the next episode :)
Fell free to leave any ask in comments.
I hope you got good time, no matter with or without my videos.
Cheers
Stavros

More Christmas goodness :D ... Oh that plane iron straightening was very skilful!
Papayas se Celaya... Es hermoso... Una hora de arte. Quisiera aprender a hacer algo así de hermoso. 😢❤
Why you need oxidation for the iron?
@@dragomirdichev1196
Oddly enough it prevents rusting (aka unwanted oxidation). The black color is a protective coat covering the surface...
That belt-grinder is a serious piece of kit!
A fascinating insight into the preparation to the plane iron for your skewed angled block plane(Part 1). The simplicity of the tapering jig to fit the plane iron so accurately into the plane body was ingenious. As always your work is of the highest quality and as such is wonderful to observe and learn from. Thoroughly looking forward to the subsequent parts to this series and will also be referring back to your previous collections too. THANKS SO MUCH for highlighting such craftsmanship!!!
Hey Jeff! Thanks a lot 👍
Good to see the processes to bring back the warped Ward iron into use. That’s a great surface belt sander. ❤ thank you for posting.
Thanks a lot Geoff 🤟
Great to see an old Ward repurposed. Beautiful job - just waiting for part 3.
Thank you David!
This series has provided a lot more insight to your process and methods. I'm starting to think I need to try.
👍👍👍
Stavros is spoiling us with all the new videos!!!
Well done! I'm waiting for the continuation.
Ok, I win because my mistake and burn pile is bigger, cost me more $$$ and more time. Seriously fantastic to see new video, tools and tricks. Your work as always great.
Craftsmanship beyond compare, excellent, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Tom!
Nice work on the iron!
Прекрасная работа👏
Very nice 👍👍
Let me know if you need more Super Blue! It looks like the bottle was getting low. I was a little concerned for a second when you showed the iron on the shooting board! Looking forward to P3!
Hey Donna, thank you! Is is first bootleg, and there is more than half :) i'll remember about your help offer! Greetings
Deine Hobel-bau Videos sind für mich die beste auf RUclips. Bin gespannt zu sehen wie es weiter geht ;)
Gruß Marc
Thanks a lot :)
I love that you care in everything you do at the bench. Would you please share the model and make of your belt grinder. New subscriber.
Thanks a lot! I don't know what model it is, sorry. Cheers!
You are the best !!!
Wow, Stavros, sam spełczyłeś tą "przystawkę" do szlifiery czy gdzieś kupiłeś? Jak zwykle super film, dzięki i pozdro
Hej Artur!
That tapered grinding jig is genius. I just made a tapered blade with hand files. It took forever and its nowhere near right.
Excelente 👏👏👏😉
Where exactly do you hit the iron for flattening? On the hills? Or on the opposite side of the valleys? Trying this atm and I'm having some succeses. The iron suffered a bit along the way im afraid 😅
On the middle of the hills 👍
Good to see you back, and with lots of new toys. So you are painting the gun blue on at full strength? I’ve always followed the manufacturer’s instructions (for the brand I have) and made up a dilute solution for soaking. Your method seems to work much better, will give it a try.
Yup, thank you👍
Amazing!
But you clearly aren't Stavros. He uses only hand tools, so that belt grinder proves that I'm right. 😂
Like #400 for Pt1 and like #416 for Pt2 are mine. Very impressive grinder! I've got similar WARD iron but you made a magic renewing it. I've noticed some cuts on your fingers, probably made during sharpening. I wander, Rob Cosman shows its acceptable and can be useful to make 1-2' back bevel on the iron, so I use it on old or pitted irons to prevent massive grind-off process. But you've made all the work. Do you use micro back bevels? Do you use grinder only on metal works or wood works too?
Best wishes, waiting Pt3, your fan.
Hey, thanks a lot! I don't make microbevels. It's belt sander only for metal parts. Cheers!
What's that black thing You applied to the iron
Everything is in the description of the video👍
!!!
Hey Victor!
Amazing work, dude! Thanks a bunch for all the tips there! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
You're welcome 👍👍👍
Szlifierka od Pawła Pruszyńskiego lux sprzęt
I wonder how that bandaid at the last shot got there haha
Lol that blade is really sharp ;)
This blade has probably never been better prepared for the work. 😂
It isn’t hand made until one bleeds in its production.
The art is in the blood sweat and tears.
The tears come from hard won experience.
Awesome work my friend and of course, greetings from the high plains of Texas.
Thank you Ryan 👍
Ten serial na filmwebie powinien mieć 9.1 :)
That belt sander is a super investment, must have saved hours doing by hand the old way, looking forward to the next installment.
Very nice! The surface grinding attachment is amazing. Thanks for the videos.
You're welcome Walter 👍
Complimenti per il canale youtube... uno dei miei canali preferiti in assoluto...👍
Thank you 👍
Now I want a belt grinder.
14:38 the bandage is how you know it's sharp. 😀
Funny Guy. time stamp 9:16
Very ingenious and the craftsmanship is, as always, superb!
Thanks a lot Roger 👍👍👍
Jaskinia wspaniała 🙂
Funny a few days ago l saw a RUclips brazing a cobalt ball onto an old hammer for straightening knife blades❤ 🎉
Thanks Stavros 😁
Man. It stressed me out so bad when it looked like you were going to shape the iron on the shooting board.
😁
@@StavrosGakos Sure! Laugh at my pain! 😉
Ha! Love the Band-Aid plaster @14:40 - nice touch!
Great video! I can't wait for the last episode!
Fajna szlifierka:))
Awesome video man!! I love the new belt sander. Super cool!! What happened to the beard?! I thought you would grow it out haha. Good stuff man!
Thank you Brian! Maybe one day :)
One day, I would love to buy one of your hand planes. They are absolutely incredible.
Super ciekawe jak zwykle. Ale porzadną szlifierkę masz !
Hej Francois :)
Love that sander Stavros! I love machinery. The plane iron looks good, I can already see those long, translucent shavings peeling off the boards! Great video my friend!
Such precise work is so enjoyable to watch. Thank you
14:02 -- Please, what kind of stones are these? Diamond? Who is the producer?
Hey, everything is in the description of my video no 063 👍
Please, what is the blue liquid that you ordered and what is the benefit of it? Thank you in advance

What was the plane body vacuum treated with? Was that BLO or something else?
Hey Mark, please go to description of the part no 1 👍 there is the answer. Cheers!
Thank you, I had a rest )) 🔥👌👍🖐️.
👍
❤❤
Yeees
I'd love to see an old Swedish blade in a build of yours, please let me know if you want one
Thank you but i have a lot of irons :)
Very nice!
What happens for a steel blade to become bent? 🤔
That's not so hard to bent na old laminated plane blade.
Beautiful.
Hello my friend :)
Exelente!!! 👏👏👏😊
Thank you 👍
Wow what a blade detailing. Beautiful work as always. I’d love to own one of his planes.
Big fan here. Every operation I do, I think, how would Stavros do it? You’ve benefited my woodworking. And steel sharpening as well.
