Damn I live in ashford and its crazy how most of the station still looks the same externally even after 20 years. Obvz now we have the high speed flyover on the far side and better trains but even in 1996 i can still recognise it well. Wow thanks for this video
+SupaHotFire When Eurostars ran from Waterloo International, prior to HS1, it was 3rd rail from London to the Tunnel, when the first section of HS1 opened, it was 3rd rail to Fawkham Junction.
It was somewhere around Dollands Moor, just after leaving the Network rail lines. Wikepedia says: "A switch between third-rail and overhead collection was performed while running at speed, initially at Continental Junction near Folkestone,"
If you're interested in seeing the location, there's a couple of cab rides that show the location/junction, e.g. this Hastings Diesels one: ruclips.net/video/4DSfp0zYCC4/видео.html (should take you to the timestamp) you can see the 25kV starting just as you come out of the tunnel!
What wonderful trains they were

It hits different to see this on third rail with slammers and no flyover at Ashford, big contrast from the electrostars and javelins in 2021
Belle vidéo historique. Ces trains sont magiques.
2:10 What a contrast.
One badass Bi Mode now they are being scrapped 😔 However I did have the pleasure of riding the 373 from St Pancras to Paris in 2010 .
Didnt 373 was ment to be fully electric?
Shame SE couldn't have them to up the High Speed Frequency
to think their scrapping some :-( nice roar :-)
+DavidClark Very sad indeed makes feel you proud to a European as I am fluent in French & Dutch I liked the tannoy chime as well.
Congrats on 100 subs
I didn't know Eurostar used 3rd rail !

+Alan Chilestone took you two years to reply loool !!!
+SupaHotFire well we get there in the end
Did trains never use platform 4?
In those days exactly where was the changeover from 3rd rail to AC carried out? Like where does OHLE start and the pans are raised?

Why is the anouncer counting at 5:58?
+Buskanalen I seem to recall they were carrying out tests of the PA system whilst I was there.
