Love this video Andy - spent all day yesterday having a de-stress from work on a club lake with my Shakespeare 13’ XT and a 4BB insert waggler, bite a cast from roach, dace, rudd, perch and even dinky little carpies all on maggot. Now getting my 7yr old moving on from short pole to waggler fishing too as it’s so much fun.

Love it Andy, I'm 60 now, don't get me wrong I'm competent with me pole, but I love the waggler, my rod choice is simple, I only have one 😂, anyone on a budget, I have a 12ft Tfgear power waggler, I think it was 40 quid 6 year ago, wouldn't be without it, and wouldn't replace it even if I won the lottery. Baby roach to double figure carp, love it.

Now there's a rare sight nowadays, a 13ft float rod. Seems to be something most brands have forgotten about, certainly at the budget (£30-£50) end of the scale. Glad I picked one up when I did, back in 2000.

Finally IMO (40+ years experience of this method) someone explains waggler fishing nearly right. Floats way to heavy though and hooklink way too short (I prefer full depth) and you should probably have explained casters and corn as alternatives to target larger fish if plauged by nusance fish but otherwise very good. One other point worth a mention would be to discuss the reflections on the water a bit better, If its not windy use the reflections to your advantage, if it is windy avoid any reflections completly and fish the 'white water' with a black tipped float whenever possible. Avoid broken reflections as much as you can in any conditions. The fish will move to wherever you are feeding, especially roach. Also I'm old skool and prefer peacock quill with shots on the line and the lightest float you can comfortably get away with usually 3-5BB for maggot work which equals 1.2-2g. Tends to land way better if fished well and doesn't damage line anywhere near as much as people say if you choose the correct shot (anchor). When counting the rod rings on the rod for a depth mark don't use the base of the float hold the float parallel with the rod and use the tip of the float as your mark. That way if you change the float the length of the float is already counted in.

For the uneducated IMO means 'in my opinion'. Take it or leave it, couldn't give a damn it was free and with good intention. Only thing I will say is maggots will only accuratly catapult 25m at best with a favourable wind. Preston must have a shed load of 5g floats to sell because I know Andy is a way better angler than that......

With a waggler, you want a big float, a positive rig, the worst thing you can do, is thrash too small a float out. Use a float that's gonna comfortably reach and hold position.
Tiny float with a bristle for finesse presentation?
      Pole fish instead 👍

Love the way you explain everything - one tip for plumbing up that I found was to clamp an ssg onto an extra small bait band and then put my hook through the band
Thank you very much for sharing
