    Everyone up in arms (no pun intended) about the reporter's remark on how Japan doesn't have a military of its own - it's obvious he means that Japan doesn't have an _offensive_ military force due to its own self-imposed post-war prohibition. Instead, Japan invests in Self-Defense Forces (SDF) which, while incredibly well-funded and powerful, does not serve to intimidate or terrorize other countries. If Japan is attacked by foreign forces, the SDF needs the bilateral aid of the US. That's why he also mentions at 2:45 that Japan may consider revisiting the constitution to remilitarize.

      @@Ivanna_Jerkov I'm not Japanese, just someone with Google. And if you, too, Googled just a bit more, you'd find out that the U.S. had an ulterior motive in actively keeping Japan from building a military force, and that despite its constitution, Japan is no meek pushover - they have the ability to make thousands of nukes.

    It is a ballistic missile, ballistic meaning that it's flight path follows a free fall trajectory like a bullet or a baseball or an artillery shell. Once the initial velocity vector is picked up, it's landing spot is immediately known. Air raid sirens/train shut downs/advising residents to take cover are all for show and attention and nothing more. It would be like someone hitting a homerun ball and the pitcher fearing for his life on TV as the ball wizzed 40 feet over his head at 120 mph, all for show as there was no danger. Serious politically yes, but scaring your own residents like that for attention is shameful.

      It's reported to have been guided. Might also break up and fall short.

    • @wally7856
      @wally7856 2 года назад +2

      @@jptrainor It was 1000 km above the earth when it passed over japan (the international space station is only 410 km high) and travelling at mach 17. It ain't breaking up in space and there isn't much in the way of steering it in space either besides some thrusters to speed up/slow down to fine tune its reentry point. When the ISS flies overhead do you turn on your air raid sirens and shut down your country? Ya, me neither. This wasn't like an airplane flying overhead, its twice as high as the ISS, 3 times higher then starlink satellites, it's reentry point was 1000's of km's from japan. I'm no fan of the dprk but they can't really test a missile without flying over top of somebody due to their location and when you are 1000 km high, you are not violating any bodies airspace, you are in outer space.

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 2 года назад +2

      @@js2211-j3h It actually does have fifth independent strongest and well funded military. It’s not that the Japanese has to “rely” on the US, the US made the Japanese take the deal so called bilateral treaties after dropping two nuclear bombs to Nagasaki and Hiroshima committing atrocities as the U.S. was so freaking afraid of the Japanese imperial power back in the day. In an exchange of allowing the US to change the Japanese constitutions after occupation of Japan, America promised the Japanese they would protect Japan as security treaties. It’s not the Japanese choice but damn America who was so insecure and afraid of Japanese imperialism power, they made the Japanese take the security deal. America did exactly the same to Germany. That’s why Germany has second largest American military bases outside of the US. And the Japanese pay the American military servicemen to be stationed in Japan for billions of dollars annually on top of their own military. So no, it’s not that they have to rely on the US, the US wanted the security treaties to demilitarize Japan right after WWII. Study up the actual history, and not some story book American government is feeding you.
