    Who is Ben Finegold? To the blind, he is the light. To the hungry, he is the bread. To the sick, he is the cure. To the lonely, he is the company. To the sad, he is the joy. To the prisoner, he is the freedom. To the poor, he is the treasure. For me, he is everything.

    One joke is that Ben knows how to pronounce German words (he played in the Bundesliga for many years), but he declines to do it for comedy.

    Calling zugzwang "Wing Chun" is probably my favorite Finegold-ism. Kills me every time.

    Reshevsky was actually born in 1909. His parents lied about his age to make his juvenile exploits more impressive. So he wasn't quite as big a child prodigy as they made out, but his geriatric exploits were two years more impressive.
    The Reshevsky-Fischer match didn't end in a tie. Fischer forfeited Games 12 and 13 before the match officially ended. Most of Fischer's forfeits have been edited out of history, except Game 2 against Spassky, which is impossible to ignore. Fischer also forfeited games to Gipslis and Larsen at Sousse, which people have tried their best not to remember. (Fischer wasn't leading when he finally exited Sousse either, maybe a video on Fischer myths is in order.)

    You seem to be confusing Reshevsky's age with the year he passed away. He lived until 1992 not 1982.

    One thing I've never understood about Reshevsky is that he won two matches against *reigning* US Champions (Fischer and Bisguier), but didn't win the title on either occasion. By rights, it seems like Reshevsky should be a 10 time US Champion, but for some reason he's not.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 4 месяца назад

      Because those games were not matches for the US Championship. They were just two guys agreeing to play a chess match, one of whom happened to be the US Champion at the time.

      Everybody smoked in those days. Arguably, he'd have less chance as a non-smoker, as he'd probably be annoyed by his opponents smoking.

    correct to say is nobody in USA could pronounce his name which says only about Americans inability or ignorance, or perhaps the both.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 4 месяца назад

      Sorry, but most people in the world -- not just Americans -- don't speak Polish and have no clue how to pronounce Polish names and words. Yes, that is technically ignorance, but it's ignorance shared by almost every non-Polish person on the planet.

      You've watched one of GM Finegold's videos before? Also, explain where in the wiki article it mentions Ben knowing the subject in question, or anything about the personal stories he tells etc? Oh wait... This is the format we all love. History of the subject matter followed by Ben's choice of games, unless the sponsor requests something more specific. Whether the games are famous or obscure is irrelevant. We watch for his analysis of the game, his presentation, jokes and personality. Get back to me when you've finished your humble pie.
