Germany’s progressive death metal masters OBSCURA complete their long-running, four-album conceptual circle with the release of Diluvium (defined as a great oceanic flood), their most evocative, diverse and vibrant release to date. Recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany, Diluvium is a stunning achievement for the illustrious quartet and a landmark release for progressive metal as a whole. Complete with all the band's signature elements plus groundbreaking polyrhythms, dramatic songwriting, and jaw-dropping virtuosity, OBSCURA raise the bar once again with an album that will go down in the annals of metal history as one of the most astonishing performances the genre has to offer.
Arguably the best song..? From 1:02 and forward it's flawless, and that damn solo caught me off guard on the very first listen (especially the tempo change at 3:28). Great melodic track!
This is definitely the most Hannes Grossmann sounding song the band has put out since he left. I'm not crazy for thinking that right? In any case it makes it sound like NUT uwu
But I absolutely agree. From the first chorus to the very last seconds of the song it's absolutely near unmatched perfection. Linus, Rafael and Sebastian knocked it out of the park with this masterpiece. That tempo change you timecoded was done in a super Hannesy way too ;) He told me in a songwriting workshop I did with him he likes to change tempos with triplets like that, and can be heard across multiple songs of his. A littleeee bummed Obscura not playing this tune on the US tour but I hope they can come back to Atl and play it the second tour for this album if it hits here D: May not tho. Will have to see in either case!
But I WILL say this is probably the ultimate song you could pick to summarize Obscuras sound, and will be the first thing I show to newcomers who want to get into the band as of now.
As much as I ADORE Martin Mendez, Defarfalla had such an incredible sound, especially on Morningrise. That's probably my favorite album for bass, ever.
Mutual feeling, mate... Morningrise is my favorite Opeth album out of all... Don't know why Mikael fired him, stating that his style doesn't fit with Opeth... It worked perfectly in my opinion...
Linus really shines on this album, seems like he took a hint from Jeroen's work on earlier records and really brought some shred this time. I feel like Linus has been selling himself short with the basslines he had been writing in previous albums vs his level of talent and ability.
NO.... not eve close to that solo they are totally difference. And a solo owns only to the guitarist who wrote this. In that case that solo is Robert and not John.
BAZ INGA Maybe as a whole, yeah. But in terms of the best songs? Septuagint and Celestial Spheres, I just listened to them again after years, and they’re two of the best songs I’ve ever heard no question. I don’t think anything on this album beats them, but the album overall is perfect.
I hadn't thought about it, and now you made me hear the resemblance and I can't unhear it. I'm glad, thanks for this comment, it made this album even better
He even formed a band called Thulcandra and its pretty much a new Dissection, i even think its dedicated to Dissection, check them out, brilliant band!
i can't stop thinking about the fact that i felt the solo was great, and brought me chills, but after 3:30 the feel of it is just plain wrong. that lick with repeating notes, wtf of course, it's personal and subjective

4:15 Those Bach-like epic riffs, the reason why I love Obscuuuuura so much
You'd LOOOOOVE a band called Chiliasm
Arguably the best song..? From 1:02 and forward it's flawless, and that damn solo caught me off guard on the very first listen (especially the tempo change at 3:28). Great melodic track!
MetalForTheMasses I have to agree. My favorite one.

James still here. I don't think it's my absolute favorite on the album is all. That'd definitely be Ethereal Skies.
But I WILL say this is probably the ultimate song you could pick to summarize Obscuras sound, and will be the first thing I show to newcomers who want to get into the band as of now.
The bass part is something similar to the playing style of Johan DeFarfalla from Old Opeth... I really love this kind of style...
As much as I ADORE Martin Mendez, Defarfalla had such an incredible sound, especially on Morningrise. That's probably my favorite album for bass, ever.

Deepjyoti Das opeth was never that good
@@dexterj5615 Blasphemy! I can't take people like you serious.
TheMeister31 how i feel when people talk about opeth and gojira like they were actually good
There isn't one song on this entire album that has let me down. WOW!
All their albums are the same.
Metal is king.
Metal is religion Metal is love Metal is life
metal is amazing
especially with jazz & classical thrown in
This whole album is stunning from start to finish. By far the best album I've heard this year.
damn, that solo is nasty. badass
As if John Petrucci had entered the wrong practice room after an all nighter.
those trujillos'solos are ecstasy..
Prog Death Metal Perfection #Obscura.. Love it! ❤
Ethereal skies and this one are my favorite tracks
Hello same exact opinion person
My favorite album of 2018 !
My favourite Obscura album so far.
Just amazing
Thank you for all the hard work you guys put in this album.
P.S. It's just the perfect music to headbang in my birthday suit while I take a bath.
Linus really shines on this album, seems like he took a hint from Jeroen's work on earlier records and really brought some shred this time. I feel like Linus has been selling himself short with the basslines he had been writing in previous albums vs his level of talent and ability.
If i could.. then i would.. make an endless time loop between 3:44 to 4:32 and never get outta this
Perfect. Congratulations!
3:30 onwards, mind-blowing solo
Reminds me of cynic somehow
Efe Duran this entire album is very cynic like so it makes sense
mike k just gave it a full listen and it really is haha
That's just a new outro for John Petrucci's Breaking All Illusions solo, which was admittedly great. But it's Petrucci's.
NO.... not eve close to that solo they are totally difference. And a solo owns only to the guitarist who wrote this. In that case that solo is Robert and not John.
The best one probably

Perfect album...awesome :)
Thank you Obscura
This song is fucking amazing, period.
dat bass
1:28 My left ear thank
2:56
2:12 que hermoso solo lo amo
Tfw when you're researching an ancient Greek concept and you stumble upon a death metal masterpiece. Not the first time it happens either hahaha
Perfect!
sounds like classical music except faster and different tone
correct
well, I wouldnt say faster. some classical is fast as shit
Yeahhh
You guys just keep getting better! Fucking sick!
Can anybody help me with what scale Rafael seems to be using here? He uses that often.
A lot of diminished and minormaj7
@@charmanfer For the solo? Thanks a lot for replying buddy.
Am I the only one who thinks that Kummerer's vocals sound exactly like Nödtveidt's (Dissection's frontman)?
I can see the resemblance, but they don't sound exactly the same imo
I hadn't thought about it, and now you made me hear the resemblance and I can't unhear it. I'm glad, thanks for this comment, it made this album even better
Rarity Sparkle, Cool ! you're very welcome :)
He even formed a band called Thulcandra and its pretty much a new Dissection, i even think its dedicated to Dissection, check them out, brilliant band!
dammmmmm this is nasty broo, hail obscura
This whole album is so fucking good
If only Obscura had thre guitarists: kummerer, Trujillo, AND fountainhead
four. Munzner.
fucking insane
THIS SONG IS SO BONER INDUCING
yes. Very well put :^)
Drum mix
i can't stop thinking about the fact that i felt the solo was great, and brought me chills, but after 3:30 the feel of it is just plain wrong. that lick with repeating notes, wtf
of course, it's personal and subjective
Everyone else had the opposite opinion, lol
bru 3:18
3:20-3:30... am I the only one who hears an incredible Marty Friedman influence???? Perfect song
Exactly like those 80s jason becker/marty friedman sounds
They should change their logo
Yup, looks too much like Obituary and is kind of outdated too.
lol its like saying america should change its flag stfu shitstain, its authentic and its a mistake to change anything
MonstroCity im not sure but i think it does not look good, archsphire has a incredible logo, beyond creation too
Iago Pedroni archspire logo sucks
John Lewis wtf they have the best logo on tech death
