- After searching this game for glitches for over 4 years, I FINALLY found the Flapping Duster inside a broken item menu.
For those who are wondering, the Flapping Duster is an item used in the Gallery of Time to access the back floors. It is not obtainable in the NTSC-U or PAL versions of the game through normal means.
Getting the Flapping Duster requires the Glitchy Heaven's Cloud Sword and setting your inventory space count to 4 or less. You can learn how to do those glitches by clicking the links below:

After finding the Flapping Duster, I continued looking for the remaining known beta items. I have managed to find every single one now, but I haven't made videos for all of them yet. All that's left to find now is a way to skip the entire game.

After many years, so many game resets, and so many tears on the inside. I have FINALLY GOT THE FLAPPING DUSTER. I went to the backdoors and experience the greatest moment in Dark Cloud. Thanks, Pokemonfan4000. You're amazing for finding this glitch!

That is the first time I've ever seen the back rooms of the Gallery of Time, awesome, I am shocked you figured all this glitchiness out yourself, amazing job.
Bro your a legend! Are you really telling me you were the one messing the whole day with the glitch menus, remembering what inputs you used and tried to find specific items? Even beta items and skips? Wtf !? What would be possible these days with data mining and debug programs? Much love dude

If there's ONE thing I want from an HD rerelease of Dark Cloud.... it's this stupid item!
+Rikusgirl001 It's re-released on PS4 with trophy support, up scaled to 1080p, but the Flapping Duster is still unavailable. This gate key is unavailable in the NSTC and PAL versions of the game, due to a bug. Only the Japanese version has the Flapping Duster but lacks the bonus dungeon Demon Shaft. At least we got a nice 100 floors extra :)
So we traded the Flapping Duster for the Demon Shaft? Eh, okay. I'll take that.

god i do not have the patience for all that,hats off to you! great video though! i always wondered why there was never an item for the last dungeon back room. no matter the game is still amazing! xxx

I think there once was a dungeon that used the flame key, but it got scraped and they possibly forgot to remove the key from the game along with the other unused items.
Maybe it's a weird Mandela effect, but I clearly remember always having the duster as a normal find when I played it and I had the American version.
I think you both have the patched iso of nowadays that fix the missing duster item. The video is from ten years ago. ☺👍🎮

Ya same here. I played this game a lot as a kid, and specifically remember riding that carpet and exploring backfloors in Dark Heaven.

The Flame Key is an unused item. It can't be used anywhere.

My game has crashed so many times, it has probably crashed over 1000 times by now. Not kidding. And I discovered this glitch menu by complete accident and I have been experimenting with it for around 8 months now.
And thanks to these videos you have another person yrying to figure out how it works, its really interesting stuff. :D
Hey, do you know if there's a moon jump code for Dark Cloud via Action Replay or Gameshark? It would be cool to be able to levitate and explore some of the out of bounds areas in the game. I'm asking you since you seem like your the most knowledgeable on the topic of hacking Dark Cloud. Thanks and keep up the good one!

This is ridiculously impressive... So those "back" floors are normally completely inaccessible huh?
I can't help but wonder why they would have removed it from the game for the English version, considering that it seems to work fine once you have the duster.

For those still returning to this gem of a video I have to adress something that has been on my mind regarding this item.
I have the Greatest Hits banner on my copy of Dark Cloud and it very much does not have the Flapping Duster coded to appear in chests. I'm hearing some people claim they have used the backfloor key in the past and claim it was the English version. Can I be the first to ask: Does the Flapping Duster exist for the regular Black PS2 banner copy? I don't have it so I cant prove it true. Let me know if you can. Thanks a bunch!
Edit: For clarification, I have obtained the duster through a glitch 3 times with the Greatest Hits banner copy. So it is in fact programed to work but not coded to appear in chests.

I'm Probably Gonna Get A Lot Of Shit For This But How Do You Get The Broken Daggers ? I Can't Seem To Pick Them Up In The Menu Even After Getting The Heavens Cloud Sword. Do I Have To Hit R1, X And Right Again Or Something Else ?

How can I get it for PAL version? It is kinda stupid they didn't used it in the American and European versions. It is only in Japan obtainable. I can remember to search off this dungeon to find an item to get in the back floor... No wonder nothing worked...
@Starrve According to what I heard, they just overlooked it in the American Release.
Because of that, Level 5 felt bad and decided to give us the Demon Shaft as compensation

I just found this out while playing this is my 3rd game. Japan made a huge error in the English/European versions in a translation they never programed it for you to get a flapping duster. Only the Japanese version can only get it.
@c8shaman that's a negative, the US and EU versions are the ones that got the Demon Shaft.This is why it is that I'd be all for an idea of mine I have brewing in my head that I simply dubbed the Level 5 collection, with this game, it's sequel and Rogue Galaxy all bundled into one sweet 40 dollar package on the PS3, and with this game in particular receiving a massive overhaul in terms of textures, ironing out glitches (including the Flapping Duster) and giving Japanese folks the Demon Shaft.

I've heard several people say they had it in their game. It's been so long since I've played that I don't remember much about it. But is it possible to get it by some other means? Maybe there's something you do that makes it appear.
+Adrastia It's impossible because it doesn't exits in the NTSC and PAL versions of the game, the Japanese version however has the item.
They didn't remove it on purpose(or they did, I don't know) but as mentioned everywhere it was the European version & the American version of the games that didn't have the item due to a "mistake" of game programming.

Was it impossible to get in the UK PAL version? I know it wasn't in the American one. I wonder if there are any hidden items in Dark Cloud 2? :o mabe some extra powder, I have the hexcodes for the Itemss so il just see whats after the last value LOL XD

Because it's a rare item and they probably thought it was in the game already and was extremely rare or totally forgot about it. How often do you see glitches or unreleased content in a game at launch?

+Yuki Terumi Not for the gallery of time in the US version. But that's why they gave us the demon shaft. 100 floor dungeon after the gallery which has a back floor.
False, both are supposed to be in the game. A mistake was made for the flapping duster and I don't know for the demon shaft and the Japanese version, maybe they made the demon shaft after they were done with the Japanese version but now I'm just speculating.

It was a programming error, they didn't do it on purpose.

a magic carpet ride into another world inside a painting?? fuck!!!! re release this game with proper programming, now! and why do people think they added the demon shaft to make up for the lack of the duster? it sounds ridiculous. if they're gonna put all that work into making a 100-floor dungeon, they could've just spent that time programming in the duster. way quicker.

Why is it in the game if it's not in the game? If they forgot to put it in it shouldn't be in this menu especially with translated text what happened when they brought the game over that changed the game to stop this item from being normally obtained? Any one know? :)
Tamara Adams it already WAS in the game, in the Japanese version that is. apparently during the localization, the flapping duster was removed accidentally. the data is still there, you just can't get it during the gallery of time
I know it was in the original game >< I think I worded what I said wrongly. I was wondering why was it in the original but not in the localization in any of the languages so did the other languages all get done from the same thing or all use the English or summit, I was curious I did look online but couldn't find anything :) so could they not upload the data back in or did they find out to late? :D

Why is everyone saying it doesn't exist? I've gotten the duster once out of many hours of playing it. Is it confirmed by Konami that it doesn't exist? I'm actually 100% sure it exists because i spent at least 100 hours trying to get it. I hope someone can clarify how rare this item is. I've been searching for video's to find someone else who got it in the Canadian version (probably the same as US?). Please link me with proof for anyone who got it. I will try to get it again and provide evidence. ah I still love this game.
They made an error with both version of the game (English and Japanese), the English one doesn't have the Flapping Duster in the chests as usual while the Japanese one doesn't have the Demon Shaft.
I find it funny how the carpet function was never meant to be in the US version, yet its "its float!" dialogue box is translated. Guess they removed it just to be assholes.
There is a 1% chance to find it in a random chest in the gallery of time. I heard some people did it this way. I wonder how it looks like when it flies out of the chest...

I had the original copy that had the feather duster working and everything.........my mom threw it out...
edit- Ha... I feel like this comment was a mistake. Look... Game was original copy->found in hollywood video-> roughly 00-03 (year), could be disc, could be unit, could be both.... all it was, was a backfloor key, and aside from that there really wasn't a massive difference between it and any other version. Those saying I'm lying? I have no reason to lie about a childhood game, I didn't realize it was a technical error/impossibility until I looked it up myself after this idiocy. It was unnatural for the game to "not" have it for me. Believe whatcha want, cause I can't provide evidence that is long gone.
battousaicrescent I don't think that's even possible. It was a programming glitch that the developers didn't catch until *after* it was released. So there are no English/Western copies that have it working.

No,it was,and it happened,I don't know which copy I had, cause it was randomly picked up from gamestop long before it went out of business,i received my copy around what was it....99-02? somewhere in there. See,how do I know? Because that was the first thing I pointed out to my family after we received a second copy with the broken feather duster. Our first copy (thrown away for some stupid reason) had a fully functional one. I don't care if you believe me,I have no proof other than that I know for a fact that it existed. But that was the only difference between the two disc copies. And no, the first wasn't in Japanese, it was english.
Wow, okay. First of all Game Stop is still very much in business. Secondly Dark Cloud is a JRPG and was released in Japan in December 2000 and didn't come to the west until 2001. Level-5 is a Japanese company. What you are is a troll who doesn't do their research. I may have believed you if you didn't say it was English first. All you have to do is look at the names of the developers in the credits to know it was made in Japan.

Secondly, why the hell should I care whether or not gamestop is in business when over 5 of my game purchases were dud discs that couldn't be replaced :P but that's my own personal thing,which is why I typically don't do business with them. Hollywood video however, is very much closed down.
Oh, don't get me wrong I hate gamestop. But the point remains you can't magically have a copy that doesn't have a program error in it.

All you people who are saying he may fuck up his save, WHO GIVES A FUCK? You'll only ever need the feather duster to get into the backroom of the demon shaft, which is only accessible once you've beaten the game AND saved, then returned. If you fuck it up now, hell, you've already won, it's not like you're gonna lose days' worth of gameplay. Honestly guys, let's think about this logically.

It's not in the NTSC-U (North American) version. They just straight up forgot to add it. You must have a PAL game.
