When I was young drivers had major sponsorship for years it seemed like., Dale Earnhardt in 2000 had GM good wrench as the primary., and on his rear quarter panel had Burger King,,Coke,,Bass Pro Shops,, realtree outdoors,, AC Delco,,Snap on.,Perdue chicken.. Guys would kill to have one of those now
JGR is a special case in that Fred Smith and Joe Gibbs were together before racing. Fred Smith is not calling the shots at Fedex and Coach is not the big man at JGR. Everything has an expiration date. Couple that with a driver that spend most of his time flaming and rides aroud at the back in the super speedway races you get a lack of interest. I had sponsor and we brought the head guy in to a race. Big show, helo entry. Giant tent with company logo. Car wasn't running very well and after 20 minutes he said "i didn't come here to see my car run last" Exit helo.....exit sponsor.
Its all cost of doing business! Let's see: Ya gotta buy a charter to get a guaranteed starting spot, ya gotta buy your parts from NASCAR, ya gotta spend hundreds of thousands on uniforms, oh yeah, the constant rule changes and car configurations thru the year! I'm a race fan, not a NASCAR rules fan! 🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸
Everytime I see an article somewhere about fedex leaving nascar and everyone's just leaving comments about how it's dennys fault, no one seems to realize that it's happening across the board.
I always measure sponsor dollars agianst the cost of Stupid Bowl ads. 8 million for a 30 sec. ad. Plus production costs. So for 1 minute of Stupid Bowl advertisisng a company could sponsor an entire season of racing. The ad dollars are there. Racing needs better sales people. Its all about impressions.
Not just the driver's salaries. Look at the shops, haulers, hospitality, engineering staff, all the stuff the top teams have figured out how to "cheat" with, simulations, computing power, etc etc etc. Also, didn't NASCAR make new crew fire suit rules for this year to cut costs?
Sure, those spotless, huge shops with all the fancy tools and equipment and dozens of vehicles in their own spots is impressive... But I'm sure it's pretty expensive too.
Off topic, but tell Schrader to run some dirt races in PA this year and you should race in PA too. Let me know the track and I'll show up to support you guys!
The cost is out of control in Nascar. It used to be that Nascar kept the cost down by limiting all the tech, and other things. The teams just have to have WAY to much money to run these days.
The teams did it to themselves and then everybody complains about when NASCAR does try to help the teams out like cut practice and limit number of cars pre team and such. I remember last year with the talk of a salary cap that fans didn't like that and team owners didn't like. that
Rarely seen a company that could sponsor a team for the whole season these day. Ally is the only full time sponsor on Bowman's chevy. Hooter's who was on Elliott's car couldn't pay the bills and was removed due to bankruptcy. Fed Ex left and not sure what the reason Mavis Tire sponsorship that wasn't on Hamlin's car this year.
Isn't the sponsorship thing in NASCAR in a way very similar to what you were discussing about JEGS the other day? They want to go where they can maximize their dollar and views and reach. Sure NASCAR on Sundays has much bigger reach than dirt or even Xfinity but still it's a very limited reach in the grand scheme of things. So the question begs now that we are in a different world this in turn effects how dollars are allocated and spent. Just like a highway billboard does not have the power it once had neither does a billboard going 200mph.
Gotta cut costs, no reason to run 38-39 weeks out of the year. Need weekday races and better logistics to save more. No reason to go to Michigan then Mexico City then Pocono in just 3 weeks. But you can also see why they got Chase Briscoe. Demands way less than Hamlin or Busch and in return Bass Pro is on every week instead of 2/3rds of the season. I wonder what happened to Mahindra and High Point.
@@johnhaas2523 I never said cut races. Most of these guys would run multiple series a weekend if NASCAR let them. So theres no reason to not run weekday races so the season can end at a reasonable time.
Watch the races from 1995-1999 it’s so cool seeing the cars all look the same week after week. Maybe teams can be like DOGE and lower costs so you don’t need millions and millions every week.
Nobody wants to pay what Joe Gibbs wants for anchor sponsor on the 11 car because of Denny's pay and maybe even because of the lawsuit. Denny takes a pay cut JGR doesn't have a sponsorship problem maybe then or joe Start another business somewhere to Hendrick automotive group where you can get lots of B2 deals. I'm pretty sure most of Penske sponsors are all B2 deals

let's go back a few years when NASCAR went woke, we all remember. why would anybody want to support a sport when NASCAR does it even know who they really are on this stance. they never came out to apologize and it hurt the sport. you got to bring these guys back. a big fat apology at the Daytona 500 would be nice.
No because of changes to the car you know like making it safer for the drivers than was designed like front and rear clips crush more than They originally did and then going through more tow links than expected
Why would any Company pour millions of bucks into sponsorship when the only time they get a mention during the course of a race day is when the winning driver thanks his sponsor? The car numbers are more important than the sponsors where as in the Supercars the cars are known as Red Bull Ampol Camaro or the Monster Energy Mustang not car 88 or car 6 as an example
NASCAR has a nascar problem. The sooner talking heads acknowledge that the fans have been abandoned the sooner it might actually get better. Instead of blaming outside factors maybe be honest about why the product is a shell of what it was. Other forms of racing have gotten bigger, nascar is getting smaller. Says a lot about the people running nascar
Xfinity AKA Comcast is going to end its title sponsorship after this year but They are still a premiere series partner plus now sponsoring the fastest lap award
Nascar has a lot of issues. When it’s become the NASCAR rich kids sports car series what do you expect. These guys are still acting like it’s 2003. Hate to break it to ya boys but nascar isn’t a tier one sport anymore. Nascar needs to scale way back and get back to their roots. These guys need to go from private jets back to a coach bus.
MLB, NFL, NBA & NASCAR all major sports in America drivers & players all pay state tax. Except of course those states that don't have tax. Respond right here! I know you are smarter than me!
Well look when you’re losing fans per nascar then the sponsors are coming to a sport that’s not the fan based anymore. Sorry that’s what I’m hearing. New kids on the race track aren’t bring the loyal fans any more.
Nobody's going broke and you don't even know what woke is And it is required under the Constitution of the United States to know what woke is So that means you have to read the dictionary And then apologize for being a Trump supporter
Stop beating around the bush. The product is not doing well IMO. and now there's only a handful of big name drivers left in the cup series. Where is the incentive to spend millions of dollars on a sinking ship. I don't want to see the sport die, but I think it is going to have to hit rock bottom to be reborn.
Its the leadership that's screwing up. Playoffs, bad management calls, disrespecting the fans, etc. The racing product itself has never been better. Last year was the most competitive season the sport has seen in well over a decade. Its not the car, it's not the drivers, it's not the product. It's the management.

Look at how much money is spent gambling on your sport. The money is never going to your sponsors because the casinos got to it first.
