Hi Saemi, thank you so much for the sharing!! I've watched some of your videos from this channel and also from LSE's official channel. They strikes a chord with me. I cannot agree with you more about the two points that pursuing a master at LSE might not worth it because I submitted the application late and I got the offer from Master of Strategic Communications at LSE recently without any scholarship. This is my second master's degree, and I am 31 years old (this might not be an issue in the UK but in China, it's hard to get hired at 32 after graduation from LSE). So I am a bit unsure if I should accept the offer, for this is like a life-long decision. I notice that you mentioned PhD in the subtitle, and going for PhD after this master's degree is one of the possibilities after graduation. As I don't have any publication in my first master's degree, will it be possible to apply for PhD given that I only have one-year program at LSE? What should I prepare for? It would be great if you could provide some suggestions. Many thanks!
Hello Yuming, first of all, thanks for sharing your story. I could make a whole another video about answering your question but I'll try to do it as succinctly as possible here. Maybe these questions might help you to organize your thoughts a bit before making your decision. 1) is this second master's absolutely essential in advancing your career and what you want to do with your life purpose? because job market doesn't really care whether you have a second degree or not unless it is absolutely relevant to the kind of work that you will eventaully do. 2) Having articles published is not a requirement for PhD amissions. It may give you some advantages, but there are plenty of people who have articles published before their PhD study and still don't get in. There is a variety of factors that play in PhD admissions. And the whole point about getting into a PhD program is to learn those skills to have your original ideas published. So if this is your concern, i'd say, don't worry about it. Hope this helps!
First of all, thank Saemi for sharing her thoughts! Yuming, I just want to share, that I came to LSE at the same age exactly as you are, to pursue my second master's degree. I recently landed my new job at the age of 32, after graduating from LSE. Just want you to know, don't think about the 'age' issue too much, and it should not be the factor that affects your decision. We should not chain ourselves with 'age', even the social environment may have some negative voices.
@@jingan2003 Jing!! Thanks for sharing your insights and big congrats on your new journey! Totallu agree on the age issue which is just another social construct.
