    Hey y'all, I'm Meagan. My husband Andy and I grew up in rural NC and as newlyweds, decided we wanted something more than the typical American lifestyle. So we started growing our own food, I learned to can and so started this passion of food preservation and knowing where our food comes from.
    Even though we grew up around this lifestyle, we still had to learn for ourselves, the ways of our ancestors before us. We now grow a huge portion of our food, including our own meat.
    High society and MSM want you to think you don't have time to grow, preserve and cook your own food from scratch, but I am here to help you along the way. As a working mother of 2 on a busy little farm, there is time, we just have to prioritize it.
    Through my weekly videos, I'll show you how to prepare easy meals cooked from scratch, tips on preserving your garden harvest and the occasional farm video. Live life on YOUR terms

    I too am a RN and homesteader. I am in Central WV. I am older than you and have "retired" early thanks to being debt free. I now take care of my elderly mother and mother-in-law as well as the small farm and church activities. We are so blessed to live this life Meagan!

      ❤I loved your DITL video. Let me say in the beginning..No I could not do what you do. It would do me in just to keep the dishes caught up. 😂 I hate washing dishes! Meagan, you work like a horse. From one job to another all day. I am wondering what y’all do if you get sick for a few days or God forbid have to have surgery and be unable to work for several weeks. I know you all have family nearby as well as a supporting neighboring community but don’t they have busy days like you and Andy as well? I’m just curious. I admire the heck out of you and Andy! I love your kids! Such good kids! What grade are they in? Do you find Homeschooling hard to fit in everyday? Enough questions for this time but I’m sure more will be coming. 😊 Take care and be blessed my #1 family on YT. ❤🙏🏻

    Real life is more relatable to most of us. So much better than staged and false images of what some want perceived on other channels. I appreciate the honest view of your life , this is how it goes for me as well lol. The never ending sink of dishes. You're doing awesome Megan 👍

    You are a rare breed, old school in a young woman’s body. Holding it down in every area. The strength of a woman. May God continue to provide all your needs and bless you with your hearts desires.

    I just go into nursing school and I was hesitant to accept because I was worried it would keep me from living the lifestyle of my dreams (homemaking/homesteading/growing most of our food.) As a young woman I'd like to thank you for being such a great example and showing that balance is possible!!! I accepted the offer :)

    Hello 👋 😊I am a nurse and aspirant homesteader. My husband has a small family farm. We just got to build our house and off we go. I can’t wait to raise our future children on the farm. I think it’s so enriching for children to be around animals etc
    I remember as a child my school had a small farm and I was always so excited to play with the animals on my recess.

    I was fortunate to lead a life similar to yours, except we did not have a milk cow or process our own meat. Grew a huge garden and canned or froze our fruits and veggies. We had 18 1/2 acres with a creek, big barn and a pond. My grown children still talk about loving how they were raised on our “farm”. We were truly blessed and I know you and your family are as well. Great memories you and your family are creating! So happy for you!

      This maybe another one of my dumb questions. How do you clean a cast iron skillet, if not with soap? It was one of mine and my girl cousins job/chores to do the dinner dishes, all we had in the 70’s and early 80’s, to my knowledge, was cast iron skillets. I still use my cast iron’s for cooking and still cleaning them with soap. I’ve had one for 40 years and it’s still going strong 💪 ❤

    • @OurSmallTownLife
      @OurSmallTownLife Год назад +1

      @Christy Martin Alot of people either just wipe them out or clean them with salt if it's something more stuck on. I've found that as long as it's seasoned well soap doesn't bother mine. :)

    Where do you get your jars?

    • @TrueGritAppalachianWays
      @TrueGritAppalachianWays  Год назад +1

      I’ve collected a lot of these through the years, I’ve purchased a couple of cases of half gallon wide mouth ball jars as well, I like to use them for pickled eggs. A lot of them are very old regular mouth half gallon mason jars. I was glad I had them once I got the cow ☺️
