The collapse of Congress started with Indira Gandhi and not with the current Gandhis!!! The high command culture that Indira brought in, destroyed state level leaderships!! If Congress kept winning elections, it was on the momentum given to it by Nehru, Shastri and such freedom movement leaders. Physics says that momentum is lost due to external forces. In case of Congress both external and internal forces have rapidly reduced that momentum and today Congress has come to a standstill. If Congress has to rebuild itself, it must first start electing state level leadership which should go to the most popular and acceptable leader and not appointed by the high command. So, a secret ballot election must decide leadership at state and central levels. Once these leaders are in place, Congress must then strengthen its booth level workers and the party must be leading the voices against the failures of BJP!! Congress needs a leader like JP Narayan, who can mobilize the whole nation against central government!! Is Congress ready to do this? The Gandhis must first give up all party posts and let a young, energetic, and creative new leadership with management and political skills to take over!!!
