The simplest way to calculate hybridization of carbon is to calculate the no of sigma bonds..... >Like sigma 2 then sp if 3 then sp^2and if 4 then sp3....its that simple
In benzyne the hydridisation of triple bonded carbon is sp2,bcz in triple bond the second π bond is formed by direct overlapping of hybrid sp2 orbital.
Questions is C having 2 double bond than answer will be sp... for hybridization we count only sigma bond here there is 2 sigma bond and 2 pi bond hence answer will be sp.

The easiest way to calculate hybridization is , by applying this formula: ½(Valence Shell Electrons of the mother atom + No. of monovalent surrounding atoms ± Charge) Example: For CH4 the mother atom is C,i.e. Carbon. Electronic Confg. Of C: 1s²2s²2p² No. of valence shell electrons of C: 4 Electronic Confg. Of H: 1s¹ So H is a Monovalent atom(valency is 1). Now there is no charge upon CH4, so the net charge is 0. Applying the formula: ½(4 + (1×4) - 0) = ½(4) = 4 Now if the H.S.(Hybridization State) is 4 then it means the H.S. of CH4 is sp³. If it was 3 then the H.S. would be sp²(for CH2) and for 2 it would be sp(like in C2H2). There can't be 1 H.S. Like if you are satisfied. Thank You.

If there is 1 pi bond with Carbon hybridization is Sp2 and if 2 pi bond the. Hybridization is Sp... In last fig. The first carbon atom has 1 pi bond so sp2 and middle carbon has 2 pi bond , one is from left and other is from right so it hybridization is SP not zero .. hope ot helps
Sp is not possible till 8 memeber ring.So one pi bond will comes under hybrid orbital which is uncommon.And thus it is sp2 hybridised atom.😮@@PESmobileICON

Example:
For CH4 the mother atom is C,i.e. Carbon.
Electronic Confg. Of C: 1s²2s²2p²
No. of valence shell electrons of C: 4
Electronic Confg. Of H: 1s¹
So H is a Monovalent atom(valency is 1).
Now there is no charge upon CH4, so the net charge is 0.
Applying the formula:
½(4 + (1×4) - 0) = ½(4) = 4
Now if the H.S.(Hybridization State) is 4 then it means the H.S. of CH4 is sp³. If it was 3 then the H.S. would be sp²(for CH2) and for 2 it would be sp(like in C2H2). There can't be 1 H.S.

In last fig. The first carbon atom has 1 pi bond so sp2 and middle carbon has 2 pi bond , one is from left and other is from right so it hybridization is SP not zero .. hope ot helps
