    As much as I love the Brutal Cities stuff, I just don't think it's worth it to pay the shipping all the way from Australia, and then all the extra VAT on top of it. It sucks, but I do hope that they sort out EU distribution at some point in the future. From what I can tell the line is already positioning itself as a premium product based on the price compared with other MDF companies, so I hope someday it's something they can do.

    This is a hobby public service. "Most" players like a variety of games and terrain is such an investment in time and space. I play a fair bit of 40k but one can only have so many skulls on their terrain before it is unusable for something like Infinity, Malifaux, The Walking Dead, Bolt Action or Ninja Turtles. I thought for a time I would be stuck with generic stone ruins for my main terrain. Glad you are helping get this "niche" market addressed. Fantastic video. I would suggest that old scratched CD's make an excellent coaster.

It's a side of the hobby that I've not really taken part in, mostly due to my hobby budget being spent on minis, but terrain also takes up a lot more space than they do.

    Really frickin love the designs! Have an interest in architecture myself and have always been drawn to brutalism. Looks absolutely amazing and wish I had an excuse to build a whole brutalist cyberpunk-noir city.
    Most of my mini collection is fantasy, though, and I honestly have trouble seeing this working in a fantasy setting. Apart from saying "Well, this Imperiums alchemists invented concrete early and in this universe brutalism is the major design philosphy instead of half-timbering, just roll with it". But with this "lore-excuse" you could make anything work, from necron stuff to Infinity-Cities.
    I am actually playing with the thought of "One terrain type to rule them all, sci-fi or fantasy", too, but I'd go with the typical Grim Dark ruined cathedral table, then. Works for 40k and the like and works well enough with fantasy. The few vents and pipes can be explained by some dwarfs/goblins/gnomes laying on hands.
    Excited to see what you make of these kits!

    I went thru the same thing as you in this video but found Death Ray Designs, not to steal thunder from Brutal Cities. Its worth maybe compare and contrast video. It also add to your city: cost was a factor. Really distinctive designs and play ability. Got several for Necromunda campaign. Take care enjoy watching your videos.

    Rename or new channel "52 Buildings"? Those laser cut mdf buildings look well cool. Having stuff modular gives it a lot of scope for change, reuse and help re-imagine the tabletop. My time with the hobby is dedicated to painting, but if I could, I'd definitely be into 3d printing, and doing my own cutting designs with something like a glowforge (dreams of winning the lottery required).

    Look up the Tidy Town and Stuff-in Stacker projects, they have a lot of interesting STLs for stackable hobby organizers (which can hold paints, brushes, bits, complete minis, etc.) that double as futuristic and bland terrain respectively. A third medieval-looking project is in the works.

    • @philgee486

      Ah, sad story ;0(
      I built it for a game called Zone Raiders, bit like quirkier Stargrave with very distinct team defining factions to choose from. The game emphasises vertical aspects of terrain, lots of zip lines and folks with grapples or wall running. So I built a 6'x4' scifi/cyberpunkish/post apocalyptic table out of wood, plastic, foamboard, cardboard, lots of tall buildings that didn't stand up well enough. So I added a backboard to the long side and glued the tall stuff to that, the whole thing hung neatly beneath wall shelves that were very securely fixed and attached to the main terrain table. This encouraged lots of stickyout upper levels, walkways galore, made in cardboard and glued to wooden blocks that were screwed in. So much fun, 3d or what. Then after making a fresh round of tea and a snack run to the kitchen, I very nearly trod on the dog.... 2lb Tiny chihuahua, sweet, fragile, she's my girl, she was in turn totally laser focused on the bag of crisps I'd just noisily opened. Tto avoid her I lurched sideways right into the table. Baseboard shot into a neat cartwheel, backboard shimmied down through the gap between table and wall, colmprehensively, neatly, shearing off nearly every element on it. Dead.
      I really, really recommend everyone looks into zone raiders, whatagame! I really, really recommend thinking through your builds better than me.
      No tiny girls were hurt at all in this debacle, and as I lay bruised and anguished, she found where I'd launched the crisp bag to and ascertained that hot wings walkers max were still not to her discerning tastes...

      @52Miniatures  3 года назад

      @@philgee486 Oh My! what a tumble, and what a story. In the end I'm glad the dog came out of it all with a full belly... but that's a real shame with that board. Did you ever get to build another one?

    • @philgee486
      @philgee486 3 года назад

      @@52Miniatures I salvaged a lot of bits, stairs, ladders, vents and pipes, but the levels were made to be light so cardboard structures and not one on the backboard was any use. I haven't rebuilt any of it yet, concentrated on getting the baseboard useable, not too hard as all the stuff was loose on the base and mostly just flew off. Next big terrain project is a flooded post-apocalyptic/scifi city. Basically a hill down one side for the buildings that can't be adapted then 2/3 of the board opaque "water" surface, glossed over with a few coats of clear pva, then build almost completely submerged lower storeys for all the buildings I have with detachable upper levels or where I can hide the ground floor doors and features behind a removable addon. I watched "Split Second" again and love the look.
