I think Oil cooling is ideal, better than air cooling and cheap to maintain compare to Liquid cooling, but in the end it all depends upon the your bike engine if it is high revving like KTM, Dominar obliviously Liquid cooling is must else engine will be overheated, but bikes like Pulsar 220/250 oil cooling is enough, for 100CC or long stroke engines like RE bikes properly engineered air cooling is more than sufficient
One more thing, every Air cooled & Liquid cooling bikes also have oil cooling, although very less. Actually, engine oil is primary coolant. After combustion, engine oil cools the cylinder wall 2 times (during power stroke and intake stroke). Rest, the remaining heat is escaped to head and further reduced by engine fins. Now for the oil cooled marketed bikes, only the amount of oil cooling is increased (oil does not cool down the head, instead head is still cooled by air). However, there is another oil cooling, in which oil also cools the head. This special oil cooling is used in Suzuki Bikes (Gixer 250 or above) So, below is the working of cooling system: 1. Air cooling: Cylinder wall -> Oil Cooled (minimum), Head -> Air Cooled 2. Oil cooling: Cylinder wall -> Oil Cooled (massive), Head -> Air Cooled 3. Special Oil Cooling (Suzuki): Cylinder Wall -> Oil Cooled (Massive), Head -> Oil Cooled 4. Liquid Cooling: Cylinder Wall -> Oil Cooled, Head -> Liquid Cooled
Air cooled are best ones, because engine works at 100 degree Celsius and atmosphere temperature will never go beyond 50 degree .So air cooling will be sufficient if u are cruising at 70-80 kn/hr.and no maintenance at all.Liquid and oil cooling is only used in full fairing bikes as air doesn't hit the enigne at all
When the compression ratio is increased to extract more power from an engine, then you need more than air cooling. For example, Hero 200cc bike doesn't produce as much power as KTM 200cc. That is because KTM ones have higher compression ratio and higher rev range. That's why they need liquid cooling. Otherwise Classic 350 is 350cc bike with air cooling.
Amongst the three types of engine cooling methods, the air-cooled engine is the lightest, as it does not have additional parts such as a radiator and is also the most cost-effective amongst the three
Has more disadvantages though, it can overheat possibly very very earlier compared to Oil or Liquid cooled. As in crawling traffic air cooled will heat a lot whereas the liquid cooling has radiator fan and can still cool engine down
I have both RE Hunter with 350CC Air-Cooled Engine and BAJAJ NS-400-z with 373CC Liquid-Cooled Engine (Same engine as in Dominar400 & Gen-1 KTM)). In matters of heat dissipation and engine refinement - NS400z is super smooth. Also, as engine heat goes up the engine-oil viscosity goes low and visible effects of these two changes (heat vs viscosity) are seen on how hard gear-shifts become. Go for Liquid-Cooled-Engine bikes if you can afford!!!
I asked a mechanic what's the speciality of liquid cooled engine and what's the difference between air cooled and liquid cooled engine,he told me the difference between liquid cooled engine and air cooled engine, and he told me the advantages of liquid cooled engine,he told me that in liquid cooled engine bike, the engine is not at all dependent on outside atmosphere for its source for cooling, and the coolant in radiator is capable of cooling itself, and you can ride the liquid cooled bike non stop for over 200 kilometres regardless of weather conditions, whereas air cooled engine are dependent on outside weather,if weather is extreme hot,we should take break in every 40 km ride but if the weather is cold, then you can still ride the bike for continuous 70 km,and one should always take a break of 15 minutes in every 50 km ride in air cooled engine bike,if we don't do,there is chance that engine may get seize, whereas there is no such threat in liquid cooled engine bike, even TVs company is installing liquid cooled engine in the 159cc TVs Apache
Pure liquid cooling is major serviceable part inn2 wheelers . A leaking liquid in engine oil brings entire engine overhaul which is very expensive .Except super sports bike , not good for cruiser or commutator bikes .
There are tonns of information and facts..So knowledgeable videos.. Keep it up!!! Other than reviewing bike atleast you have lot of info and fact videos on your channel.. Keep up the good and hardwork👌👌✌ U Rockkk SRM !!!
However, since atmospheric passing air is still the basic element used, where cooling improves only when speed rises, oil cooling is not as efficient as liquid cooling and cannot be installed on high-performance engines that produce huge amounts of heat during all operating conditions
for indian videos i always look for your videos for reviews and information, your way of explanation is superb.......thanks, your videos have made me decide which bike I want to buy, whichj no one else could...thanks bro
Fins doesn't absorb air in air cooled engine. The surface area becomes more by giving fins to engine,so the outer area of engine increases and hence heat dissipation is faster .
Best video bro... I ride a vitpilen 250.. it overheats a lot in traffic.. my jeans began to heat and my legs.. but ktm ,i know how there engine is... Just sharing my thoughts.

Hi, when an air-cooled or oil-cooled bike is idling, won't its cooling efficiency be much inferior then? Why do commuter bikes not ever overheat then?
