At this rate it wouldn’t be surprising if Jed decided to do a fire sale for more prospects but I would much rather they trade for a superstar player like Pete Alonso or Vladdy alongside a bullpen piece and another starting pitcher. And I won’t mind it if they trade Belli, Morel, Tallion, or Happ for anyone and at this rate I’m just ready for the young guys to get a shot now because this team is just not fun to watch (only exception being Steele’s rally)
Kap tries too hard, his yelling is obnoxious to me at this point. I would take the CHGO Cubs as a personal preference, but setup man and locked on are both pretty good
This is the first baseball podcast I’ve seen in four weeks. Not because both of you don’t put out great content….it has been too depressing to rehash the 2024 Cubs debacle. Hang in there guys.
Cubs fans aren't blessed with much right now, but if there is one thing we are blessed for, it's the awesome content creators like you & Locked on Cubs! Another great crossover!
The Marlins & Rockies are the only NL teams worse. It’s honestly a breath of fresh air today them being off. Just no dark clouds over my head. Just screw them. You can feel it through the TV.
There is something to be said for doing your off season buying during the deadline when teams are in the trade mode. Seems much harder to do trades in the off season.
Those players were actually talking on a podcast about WANTING to roll over an outside pitch with a runner on 2nd? No wonder the offense is trash, and the coaches need to be fired if that's what they're telling their hitters to do. It's almost as stupid as an NHL team getting a 2-goal lead and then pulling their goalie to let the other team score because of the old saying, "a 2 goal lead is the most dangerous lead in hockey." Intentionally doing something to decrease your chances of winning, and then wonder why you keep losing.
I don’t think you know baseball. They’re talking about how the cubs are failing to do the little things, little things like hitting a sacrifice fly with one out or moving the runner over from 2nd to third with no outs. These little things lead to wins, there’s no doubt about it. If there’s a runner on 2nd with no outs and the next hitter is able to get him over to third because he grounded out to 2nd, this is a productive at bat and should be encouraged. Not sure what you’re trying to say
Well, you see, in the game of baseball there is no clock to signify the end of a game or period of play time. Instead there are things called 'outs' which you referenced, and each team has a total of 27 to work with. The team whose turn is at bat tries to score as many runs as possible in each of the 9 innings they play, where 3 outs represents the terminus of that inning regardless of the number of baserunners or which bases they occupy. Gifting one or more of these 'outs' to the opposing team, which makes your turn on offense end more quickly, is not considered to be a strategy conducive to scoring a greater number of runs than your opponent. Scoring more runs than your opponent means you win the game.
@@tuckerdoyle4492 There's a concept in baseball called run expectancy. In general, it says that trading an out just to move a runner over is a bad play
I had liked Jed before this season. But this season just proves he's not that bright. He's the one who targeted Swanson. He's the one who gave extensions to Happ and Hoerner. He's the one that gave $20m for Hendricks, Traded for Cuas. He's proven he is not that great at judging talent. He hired Counsell thinking he's some genius at 1 run games, when it's just the fact that the entire Brewer org made Counsell look better than he is. So that was a HUGE misjudgement.
1. Pete Crow Armstrong CF 2. Seiya Suzuki RF 3. Micheal Busch 1B 4. Christopher Morel 3B 5. Dansby Swanson SS 6. Owen Cassie RF 7. Brennen Davis DH 8. Tomas Nido C 9. David Bote 3B Lineup on July 31st?
buying selling ? how bout getting better at this point which means fixing the catching and third base postions i would target the rockies there for those postions a 280 hitter with few more years left in case shaw flames out and a catcher in diaz def upgrade of what we got but yea i would really try to move seyia maybe somebody takes him to dh main thing is to open up couple outfield spots for cassie or canairo underperforming guys like wisdom miles bote and even madrigal who cant stay helathy should be released to open up spots also
If they do clear money off the books for next year, are you sure they’re going to spend it on other players? I don’t think there’s any guarantee of that.
If I were Jed, I would resign. He has done a shit job putting this team together. 1 year left on his contract, Ricketts should get rid of him NOW. The Cubs really have nothing to trade except for some unproven prospects. They have a shit organization and it is fully on Hoyer's shoulders.
One thing is for sure …..whatever they do by the trade deadline will be a very telling decision for what they ultimately do with council and upper management ….
@@Antonio-jc6iv Removing Jed should be the top priority. I do not trust him to make good decisions. But Shaw is not even in Iowa yet. So I would never expect that as a solution. Not until he proves that he can hit Iowa pitching. Moving Busch to 2B is a easy choice and promoting the systems best hitter to take up 1B They need to go into the off-season with a legit game plan and Caissie and Ballestroes given 300 PA vs MLB talent
Morel at third , that’s a tough position and to be thrown into that he has done alright . Hey it could be worse , he has the ability to get better there . Where is the coaching ? And this team isn’t going anywhere any how.
This season feels like a lost cause. I honestly think the Cubs should focus on building the team for next year. The whole marketing marketing thing of "You have to C it". What I "C" is a season that got away, and any glimmer of hope vanishing. It's hard being a Cub fan right now.
The goal should be shedding salary so they can finally get their superstar and outbid everyone for Soto.If that is not the goal then nothing else will matter. If they shed enough they can not only get Soto, but Alonso and a closer. With Cubs pitching you then would have a NL power
Besides Counsel being a dud I think Bellinger is the poison on this team, he stalled the whole off season by demanding big money & now is doing absolutely nothing! Babying Morel is also not helping! Trade both , bring up Shawn to play 3rd base , bring up Casey for RF , DH Seya and watch the team turn around! Then learn from this and build a bullpen in the off season 🤓
I don't think the Cubs have much to trade or sell unless a contender is desperate. The team doesn't have a position player All-Star, which speaks volumes about the roster. That Morel must be in the line-up is telling, when he can't hit and can't play defense. And, yet, the team is so bad that he must play. Surely, they have kids in the minors that can field and hit .220+ at 3rd, at shortstop, and at catcher??? Morel, Amaya and Swanson are dead weight and overpaid.
Other than picking up a couple relievers, I'd stand pat. Complain all you want about the offense, but they have handed the lead over to the BP 20 times with nothing to show for it. But the whiners always want to fire all the coaches & manager and sell off our best players. Sometimes it just isn't your year. Deal with it, buttercups.
If they can get anything for Happ, they should, and asap. Same for Suzuki(although his presence may keep Imanaga happier). Consider Morel if they can get a sizeable package back(a contender would love his big hit ability, even with low BA). There are OFers with higher ceilings talent-wise that will cost nearly nothing for a few more years(Canario, Caissie, Davis, Alcantara).
If I were Jed I would resign because he has failed miserably. Then the new president of baseball operations should trade anyone not named Pete, Michael, Shōta, or Justin.
I would definitely sell if they don't win a ton of games. This group has not jelled. If we could trade a couple outfielders, Tallion, and others It will put the Cubs in a position to bring up a lot of young talented players next year and have tons of money to spend on free agents. There is a ton of money coming off the books anyway.
I don’t trust Hoyer to buy a pack of gum!! Failed GM. And that so called Manager he hired is a potted plant. I’ve seen librarians more passionate. Seasons over!!
Did Happ and Swanson have a podcast where they just make excuses for not being able to hit with runners in scoring position? Sounds like it. So the teams that can do it are just better. But the Cubs are not good enough. That’s what those guys are saying. It’s a loser mentality.
What would you do if you were Jed? Buy, sell, or stand still?
Time to start dumping. We bad as H.

Let's wait until we see what happens in the next couple weeks. If we keep playing like this it's time to sell
Hard to say, I don’t even know what he’s trying to do. It’s a gigantic cluster! I’d say just tear it down.
Sorry guys dansby and Mallory will continue to boot the ball around for the foreseeable future catch it coz u have to C it lol
3 great podcasts: Setup Man, Locked On & ReKap
I agree--the only ones I watch with any regularity.
Kap tries too hard, his yelling is obnoxious to me at this point. I would take the CHGO Cubs as a personal preference, but setup man and locked on are both pretty good
