I’m about halfway through the video but I have to comment at this point; I am so impressed how well you all work together! One leader, proficient assistance and no bickering! My hats off to you guys!
I applaud you guys on a hell of a winch job and team work. I hope the driver and passenger are okay. The fact that it started and drove to the wrecker shows how tough the tj is.
You guys do good work and provide an awesome service here in Colorado. I hope I never need your services, but know who to call if I need help. Thank you for all that you do to help the off-roading community. I really liked the care that you took to help preserve the environment also. Very conscientious.
This is inspiring volunteer work done with respect for some guys’ bad day. Totally professional. Hope they’re recovering well. Thanks for your service 🙏✌️🤙
Just subscribed. Iv seen some fucked up unsafe recoveries. You guys did this recovery flawlessly. From the safety line, clear communication and cleaning up the mess. True professionals.
Great job! I learn more about winching and rigging by watching you and your team. Hope I never need it though. Thanks for your service and helping this unfortunate Jeep and it's owner.
Winchfest 2021 !!! A: looks like I need to ugrade chain hooks … info? B: even a relatively easy trail can be dangerous in the hands of some… you guys are way to generous with your time and resources !!! Thanks for doing it! C: the posts and cable from former left hand canyon need to be recycled to this location !!
Those gated chain hooks are very nice for making sure your rigging doesn't slip. That's a grade 70 chain, I have a gated hook grade 100 for things that get really nasty.
@@JustinKingOffroad I can only find hooks that don’t interest me searching gated grade 100 but nothing with the same closure as your set (If you find a item # or brand let me know plz) … I wish NOCO had a western sling or the like … then it would be easy to find rigging gear with reliably “tested” WLL like I used to get …most of my logging chain and such has had a full life of loading and mileage, so I’m always looking for a less effort upgrade on the tried and abused gear! But what I have still gets the job done with repeatable results! **knock on wood **
Amazing one! So cool to see all the lines converging to that "cluster of snatch blocks" on the back of that jeep! Looking at some guesstimated numbers, that would have been a good 12-18k pull (the weight of the jeep with very generous slope & friction coefficients). Pro-move with that safety line. 🙂
Great recovery off that steep and wet hillside. That was definitely a painfully mistake for that TJ driver. Too bad there was some injuries. Even when trails seem tame, they can bite you.
@@phantomwalker8251 I would say even the stock roll cage is rubbish in most cases. I see more stock roll cages flattened than I do still in-tact like this one is after a rollover.
Almost looks like they would have been ok had they not been ejected. TJ cage seemed to do ok. No seatbelts? Not passing judgment, just a common thing it seems. Amazing job you all do, especially being volunteers. Hope the injured folks make a good recovery.
in retrospect that would have been the right call in the field. but we had to keep messing with the wheel to move it around obstacles anyway, so we'd be un-doing it and redoing it anyway.
Awesome video! One question I had was that since the TJ was upside down for some time, did you guys pull the spark plugs out to get the oil out before starting the Jeep? Otherwise, the oil builds up in the cylinders and can cause hydrolock.
It sat on its wheels for a few hours before we bumped the key, giving the oil time to settle back into the pan. Didn't look like it on video but it was.
Great work guys! Thx for cleaning up as well!! This is the ULTIMATE in reality TV👍How did they survive that?? where did they get ejected?? Does the guy have to pay for this extraction??
I know every inch of TJ’s and I didn’t see where that frame is rusted through. He did box it in just like I did but did a short arm lift instead of the long arm which is a head scratcher being that he did a bunch welding anyways. That TJ wasn’t even close to being totaled, he just needed to hit a couple junk yards for a new-ish body until you got a hold of it.
Hope they do ok, looked pretty bad. You guys do it better and safer than some "professionals" . Some on YT really should get to some towing classes before they upload some of the things they do. Stay safe Justin.
@@JustinKingOffroad Having the extra people can slow things down also, but having someone follow behind checking all the rigging is a safety factor a business cannot afford. Training others to be able to do the job like you do is pretty awesome also. I learned from being thrown into many jobs that training can be a life saver. Thanks for the video.
Those are just "gated hooks" but you do need to make sure you get the right rated ones for the grade of chain you have. You can find them at most tractor supply stores or chain companies online.
Would have been a great idea, lol!! But we did need to maneuver around a few things. Adjusting it a few times didn't eat up nearly as much time as you'd think, we fought the hillside and rigging more.
You did a pretty good job and it's a great video, but here's everything you did wrong... Just kidding, I can't pull a shopping cart out of the corral by myself. Fun video, thanks!
That looked like the most overlycomplicated recovery of a wrecked vehicle I have ever seen. Kudos for the safe/saftey work, but man. I've used less line than that on 1k' recoveries.
Do you have some kind of fish eye lens or image stabilization or something? The video is skewed and it's kinda annoying to watch. But worth the watch, good recovery!
I’ve viewed and assisted this Jeep on other backcountry adventures before … the behavior and outcome where unfortunately predictable and avoidable!!! Sad but true!
The Bigfoot on my farm could grab that Jeep with one hand and walk it up the hill. I shit you not; Ole Jethro is 12ft high and 1600lbs. He’s my main man.🤗🇺🇸 Michigan
I’ve never claimed to be smart……. But I see something……… The vehicle comes back up much slower than it went down. Probably wheeled on a full moon or something.
I would like to know in one part of the video it looked like the wrecked Jeep was coming up the hill forwards then I went back to pulling it up backwards just asking ? Also some of the video would be better with less of the safety vest 🦺
I think you are mistaken, the jeep was once on its wheels, was hooked up at the rear bumper and dragged up the entire way. There was another jeep of similar color that was parked at the road assisting with the recovery, that is likely what you saw. Also, he says so earlier, he had the GoPro accidentally on Superview and it got more of the vest, also, that vest might be a touch too big to begin with, and he likely had it on a chesty strap, which got partly obscured by the vest.

Another one bites the dust and a job well done to get'er out of there. Y'all are awesome in your recovery skills.
We have great trainers who invest a ton of time into our safety and expertise.
Watched this a couple times. Still amazed at how intact it looks if you disregard the rotten metal on the underside.
It’s great how you became new every , to being in charge. Awesome to see you work.
I love the teamwork the crew has and the attention to safety.
Great recovery, Justin. Amazed that thing drove out under its own power. You guys and gals have quite a team there!
beautiful part of the country! little hard on jeeps . GLAD EVERYONE MADE IT.
Very important to use every piece of gear that you bring. Justifies the expense to your wife. Good job folks.

You guys do such a good job but one question why would you start a vehicle that's been upside down for a period of time?
Thanks for cleaning up the contaminates! Well done👍
My guess a recovery like that is expensive?
Excellent job 👏.
I hope next year to visit Colorado for some 4x4 fun.....
Greetings from Canada.
we do not charge a penny for our volunteer service!
@@JustinKingOffroad Good man. 👍
It came up so nice because you wore a path on the hill with all your trips up and down it.
Got to love a jeep. I have owned two MB one CJ 7 and for twenty years a J 20 that never had to have a spanner anyway near it.
You made that look way too easy!! Great recovery.
I'm amazed at the roll cage being in-tact. Looks like it's the factory cage as well...
best thing on a jeep. the steering is rubbish.

I don't wear a seatbelt because if I need to bail out fast,I can.
Great work!!! Why wouldn't you wheel lock the steering wheel once the jeep pointed backwards uphill so you would have to straighten out while loaded?
in retrospect that would have been the right call in the field. but we had to keep messing with the wheel to move it around obstacles anyway, so we'd be un-doing it and redoing it anyway.
Great job guys enjoyed every minute of it
What types of hooks are on your chains? What’s would you call them? Thanks. Great recovery by the way.
Those are "gated" hooks.
Hey Justin, thank you for the great content! Regarding the chains, how many do you carry and in what length?
My go-to is a couple of 9 ish foot sections. But I have a 25' length of grade 120 for the serious stuff.
@@JustinKingOffroad thank you for the reply. Keep up the great/professional work

Just discovered your channel. Sub Casey, Fab Rats, and Matt. Love to watch all the rigging and team work. Great job all of you. Have a Blessed week!!
Welcome aboard!!!
I like how you cleaned up the gas and oil from the ground. Is this something the state has you do on every recovery?
no it's just something we do.
@@JustinKingOffroad what did it cost
super complex recover, very neat operation
Where to get those X-Bow ?? Buckles for rope safety ties?
I’m from the Longmont area and always head up towards Allens park and boulder to hit some trails, haven’t seen anything like this happen, good job!
In the future you can use a ratchet strap to secure the steering wheel. That would keep you from entering the danger zone to readjusting the steering.
Seatbelt works also
@28:50 what was the piece of machinery was in the road??
some old mining gear of some kind. i really have no idea what it did.
Ya gotta love that Power Wagon. Beast 💪🏻💪🏻👍👍
Wow ! Not sure how he did that but no thanks !
Outstanding job that recovery was no joke !!
short answer is just got too close to the end of the road, and then once it started going over... it just kept going!
@@JustinKingOffroad Bummer they got hurt. Hope they get well soon. 🙏
Seat belts are your friend with locking steering wheel winching
Nice recovery, would've hate to be them guys rolling down the hill hope they are alright & lessons learned.
One has a broken back, gonna be a painful recovery.
Great work guys! Thx for cleaning up as well!! This is the ULTIMATE in reality TV👍How did they survive that?? where did they get ejected?? Does the guy have to pay for this extraction??
they got lucky for sure. there is no charge for our services at all.
Looks like North Wales in the UK. Mainly the rain. And hills.
Why dont you tie off the steering wheel??
Looks like a Getrag 5 speed.
How about doing some time lapse speed up during the 2 to 1 winching?

The stock "sport bar" on the TJ / YJ / CJ always worries me. In the rust belt, the torque tube where they mount is always the first thing to rust out.
Prayers for the driver!
What model radio do you guys use?
Little bit of everything. Motorola, anytone, baofeng, Kenwood, etc
Hope they do ok, looked pretty bad. You guys do it better and safer than some "professionals" . Some on YT really should get to some towing classes before they upload some of the things they do. Stay safe Justin.
We do try hard, some times too hard. We actually had additional training a few weeks ago off video explaining and showing fast but safe ways to rig.

Excellent video. Well done
Another great video. Keep up the great work
Can you describe how this happened? Thanks in Advance
long story extremely short, got too close to the steep edge and gravity won.
its crazy how tough the plastic tj fenders are
Fantastic team effort 👍🏼
Just a suggestion from a former wrecker driver a couple of motorcycle straps would have helped your steering wheel problem
Still dont have the powerwagon back?
Oh no I have that, just didn't need it yesterday
Good work. I am a TJ guy so that was a bit rough to watch.
I have never seen those grab hooks with lock. Where can I get those?
Those are just "gated hooks" but you do need to make sure you get the right rated ones for the grade of chain you have. You can find them at most tractor supply stores or chain companies online.
what happened to the person that rolled it down the hill?
they are recovering at home with sustained injuries still.
What hwy are you on in the beggining?
That's the boulder canyon, highway 119
Great video thank you!
why not put steering lock back on for winching to keep the wheel straight?
Would have been a great idea, lol!! But we did need to maneuver around a few things. Adjusting it a few times didn't eat up nearly as much time as you'd think, we fought the hillside and rigging more.
yeh fair, impressive winching :)
there is always hindsight on operations. literally always. locked that wheel with a strap or ignition would have been a good idea lol!
That was a good one in all facets!
You should put a tie down strap on steering wheel to keep it from turning huh
Yeah should have. We needed to turn around obstacles though so either way it was going to be a pain.
@@JustinKingOffroad ya that's true n amazing the jeep Ran n Drove
It's hard to kill a 4.0!!
@@JustinKingOffroad Sticking the seatbelt through it is another option, if it's not locked up because of the angle
Tie the steering to the body to keep it in the position you want
Great Video well done
Wish I could meet up and join with You sometime I’m in Wisconsin.
Why not lock the front wheels straight? Sure would have made it easier
Matbe takt the key out as it may lock the steering
Wow! You guys are great n
For the steering wheel so it doesn’t turn you could use a ratchet strap tied off to the seat bracket
Use the seat belt.
Next time
I just cannot explain how they fell off the road there unless they were passing. Rough landing for the ejected
basically got too close to the edge of the road, and the rest happened fast.

the uphill tug on this calc'd out to about 8000 pounds on the steepest part of the hill.

i actually had the gopro on superview on accident. i usually run it on wide. but decided to just go with it.
If you pull the key out of the ignition it should lock the steering wheel.
Good stuff! 👍

Now a project tj
New windshield, hood, fenders, flares, grille and it's ready to roll

Low range is safer in the hills. It’s better to engine break. I wonder how this cats ended up rolling that Jeep.
Bad judgment. Find a better place to turn around or back down to one.
In 4H and a manual transmission most likely a foot slip.
Would be a good project vehicle.
They dont know 1 oz over the speed limit or at the safety meeting
Next time tie the wheel off with the seat belt
Im not surprised they rolled in that spot. the Y to the right coming down is sketch

air bag didnt go off..
