Hi Dolphine254, thank you for this great tour, I was last in Kasumu in 2003 visiting a fellow VSO VOLUNTEER and the town has changed so much that it was difficult to imagine it was the same place from all those years ago. I am really looking forward to seeing your next tour.
Kisumu as before during colonial times was refered to port Florence wife of railway engineer , when the railway from Mombasa reached in 1901, initially kisumu was known as kisumo a place for trade in food products(barter) was the center of trade between Luo community, luhya and the nandis, the whites couldn't pronounce kisumo, they ended up pronouncing kisumu which stuck, in 2001 after hundred years kisumu achieved its city status making it the third city in the country this was attributed to major development back(late 90s and 2000s) then when former MP Shakir shabir initiated road upgrades within the estates and further development later In mid 2010s construction of by pass, road expansion on Nairobi road, tarmarcing the roads in nyalenda and installing street lights and an icing on the cake upgrade of kisumu international Airport to international status from an airstrip
2:31 the bypass links kisumu busia road from kisumu Nairobi road for those who are avoiding passing via kisumu town, the by passes through obunga, kondele roundabout, manyatta area towards the Nairobi road, it's ideal for trucks crossing over to Uganda there by reducing traffic within the town
It's not a matter of handshake, let's give credit to the current governor. If it was handshake the all other pro-handshake towns would be better looking. Good job Baba Lupita!
Quite true. Nyongo takes the credit for this. But I have also seen order from matatus even when no one is watching over them I have seen a long "que" of matatus neatly parked along the road in area designated for them so as not to interfere with traffic. If it was in Nairobi, a good number of them would have parked hapgazardly under such circumstances to block the road. Just to annoy.
Great indeed! The masterplan for Kisumu needs to be redone to attract more investors. A lot has been done but seems it will take time before it gains its supremacy. The current governor is doing a good job though.
Nice job but you are giving wrong location information. The point you indicated as Dunga beach is actually Kisumu Yatch Club or you rather call it Hippo Point. Dunga Beach is still some 5 Km away from there. I am a native of this beautiful City.
You have a wonderful radio voice and your intro sound very articulate...why don't you talk to your viewers....tell us whats this they are seeing instead of playing those irritating sound bites.
hiyo stadium ibomolewe ijengwe kitu ya maana, ati international stadium,I wonder who came up with that (international)do they know the meaning of international and how it would look like,am ashamed.

Yes it's such a lovely place to be

My last time in Kisumu was 1990..I resided in Nyamasariya area. What a transformation! Watching from Hargeisa, Somaliland. Baba for President.

I thought so too. I have always had a place in my heart for Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o

Am nairobian but this goes to my brothers from TZ who usually say roads are just in Nairobi,,,but this is kisumu
😃
Kenya has good roads though we still hope for the best
@@dolphine254 agreed
Kenya has good roads everywhere at this point. Especially in Nyanza, 65% of roads and feeder roads are tarmacked
That stadium is trash. It has to be said. We can’t be accepting such mediocre infrastructure in this era
Its unfinished.
True even Bukhungu is better
Stadium za highschool standards 😂😂

The windshield is distorting the view. Clear views should be done by bike ☺️☺️
Yes I've noticed that. Thanks for your feedback
This video should have been titled… ‘Enjoying a drive around Kisumu’.
😃
254 kisumu ndiyo county yetu
Enyewe uko ni Yurop
No Zebra Crossings for pedestrians, otherwise beautiful clean City.
This started long befote handshake if my memory serves me right.
Kisumu is still struggling
Yes..just like many African cities..but things are changing
Like all cities in the world. But you celebrate nevertheless.
It is the pace and direction of the struggle that's being celebrated. It is OK to struggle because nothing good comes easily.
Why say kisumu Town?
It's not a city kwani ama what do you mean
it's not handshake....its prof. Research
You have a wonderful radio voice and your intro sound very articulate...why don't you talk to your viewers....tell us whats this they are seeing instead of playing those irritating sound bites.

We should be building better football stadiums it’s 2021
Build one, stadiums should be left to private developers. Just like in Europe.
You've indicated "LET’S TOUR KISUMU TOWN" but I've not seen any meaningful town !!
