I4C 2024 Workshop: Emissions pricing and distributional impacts

This session, delved into the regressive nature of emissions pricing systems, which if not properly designed could place a disproportionate burden on lower-income groups. The session closely examined the socio-economic impacts of these systems, exploring how they exacerbate existing inequalities. Moreover, the session highlighted the innovative solutions that countries are devising to address these disparities, ranging from targeted financial assistance programs to policy adjustments aimed at ensuring fairness and equity in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Through in-depth discussions and real world examples, the session aimed to shed light on effective strategies for mitigating the adverse effects of emissions pricing on vulnerable populations while still advancing environmental goals.
