  • Fatma Hatun was the second wife of Ottoman Sultan Ahmed I and the mother of Şehzade Cihangir, Şehzade Hasan, Şehzade Selim and Şehzade Orhan.
Fatma Haseki Sultan or Fatma Hatun was born to Kuyucu Murad Pasha, who served as grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Ahmed I between 9 December 1606 and 5 August 1611. She was married to Ahmed in 1604.
She was the second of Ahmed I's three women and bore him four sons, Şehzade Cihangir, Şehzade Hasan, Şehzade Selim and Şehzade Orhan, but all of them died in infancy except her daughter Abide Sultan who was born in 1618 shortly after Ahmed's death.
Venetian ambassador Simon Contarini, in his 1612 reports, suggests an incident that Fatma Hatun, like Akile Hatun, the wife of Ahmed's successor, Osman II and the daughter of Şeyhülislam Hacı Mehmed Esadullah Efendi, never entered the Imperial Harem. According to Contarini, when roughly a decade earlier Fatma Hatun had wanted to enter the harem of Sultan Ahmed I, the harem stewardess (kethüda kadın) had discouraged her by arguing that she would lose her mind among so many slaves and her sons would probably be killed through the practice of fratricide.
It is also possible that she was banished from the harem , or that the prospect of the free Muslim daughter residing within the imperial harem may have been an important element in the unpopularity of the marriage.

FATMA HASEKI SULTAN was not the second but 1st legal wife of Sultan Ahmed I. She was married to him in 1605 when both were teenagers. She was the daughter of Kuyucu Murad Pasha and together they had 3 sons and 1 posthumous daughter. Their 3 sons were Shehzade CIHANGIR, Shehzade HASAN and Shehzade ORHAN. All of them died in infancy. The only posthumous daughter ABIDE SULTAN (1618 - 1675) survived.

Can you explain more about her? I have talked to many people who deny the existence of her and according to her is just a false character in a French novel, but I read a story that she did exist, but I still do not have enough evidence to know if it is true. Do you know if there are any graves of her? or where can I find more information about her?

@@That_girlz FATMA HASEKI SULTAN (1590) and was married in 1605. Her 3 sons Shehzade CIHANGIR, Shehzade HASAN and Shehzade ORHAN all died young and their graves are with their dad Sultan Ahmed I only and her only posthumous daughter Shehzadi ABIDE SULTAN was born posthumously. She never entered harem as said in her Wikipedia. No one is lucky enough to know the truth but definitely she was not his favorite. Please visit her grave. KOSEM SULTAN rose to prominence after SAFIYE SULTAN banishment and HANDAN SULTAN death in 1604 . These 2 vacancies allowed her rise to the top of the imperial harem hierarchy from her previous position as 2nd or 3rd concubine. Her beauty and intelligence drew Sultan Ahmed's attention. In mid 1610 MAHFIROZ was expulsed from the palace. In 1612, the Sultan ordered a woman to be beaten for having irritated KOSEM (may be MAHFIROZ). In 1616, the Sultan did not allowed the 2 eldest princes (OSMAN and MEHMED) to converse with KOSEM. His motive perhaps was princes security was threatened by Kosem's well known ambitions for her own sons.
Children of Sultan Ahmed I were as follows :
      Sons :
Sultan OSMAN II (3/11/1604 - 20/5/1622)- MAHFIROZ HATUN
      Shehzade MEHMED (1605 - 12/1/1621) - Unnamed Concubine
Sultan MURAD IV (27/7/1612-8/2/1640)- KOSEM SULTAN
Shehzade BAYEZID (November 1612 - 27/7/1635)- MAHFIROZ HATUN
      Shehzade SULEYMAN (1613 - 27/7/1635)- Unnamed Concubine
      Shehzade SELIM (1613 - 27/7/1635) - Unnamed Concubine
Shehzade HUSEYIN (November 1614- died after 1622) - MAHFIROZ HATUN
      Shehzade KASIM (1614 - 17/2/1638) - KOSEM SULTAN
      Sultan IBRAHIM (5/11/1615- 18/8/1648) - KOSEM SULTAN
Shehzade CIHANGIR - FATMA HASEKI SULTAN
Shehzade HASAN - FATMA HASEKI SULTAN
Shehzade ORHAN - FATMA HASEKI SULTAN .
Note : Shehzade Suleyman and Shehzade Selim were probably twins or born from different mothers.
      Daughters :
      Shehzadi KOSEM (1606)
      - Unnamed Concubine
      Shehzadi HATICE (1608- 1610) - MAHFIROZ HATUN
(Shehzadi AYSE, Shehzadi FATMA, Shehzadi GEVHERHAN and Shehzadi HANZADE) - KOSEM SULTAN
      Shehzadi ATIKE (1613 -1674) - Unnamed Concubine
      Shehzadi ZAHIDE (1613 - 1620) - Unnamed Concubine
      Shehzadi ESMA (1612 -1612) - Unnamed Concubine

On Sultan Murad IV 23rd birthday he ordered and murdered his three half brothers. They were Shehzade BAYEZID (November 1612 - 27/7/1635) aged 22 years, Shehzade SULEYMAN (1613 - 27/7/1635) aged 21/22 and Shehzade SELIM aged 21/22. Shehzade BAYEZID was the last surviving son of Mahifiroz Hatun (his full elder brother Sultan Osman II and full younger brother Shehzade Huseyin and full sister Shehzadi HATICE all were dead). Shehzade SULEYMAN and Shehzade SELIM were probably twins or born from different concubines of Sultan Ahmed I put neither biological sons of kosem Sultan or Mahfiroz Hatun or Fatma Haseki Sultan.
Sultan Ahmed I begotted many daughters too with unnamed concubines. They were kosem Sultan (1606), Atike Sultan (1613), Zahide Sultan (1613 - 1620), Esma Sultan (1612 - 1612), Zeynap Sultan (1617 -1619).

She was not a slave and never entered the harem. But I guess Kosem wanted her to be erased and not to be remembered. Because Nurbanu did the same thing. Selim II had 4 other wives who were mothers of princes but no one knows their names. Nurbanu must have erased their records.
