We understand that the decision on problem 7 is controversial. Ultimately, the situation was due to not clearly communicating how simplified the answer should be -- one of the contestants attempted to simplify the same expression as other contestants and made a mistake in the process. We apologize for the oversight, and we will no longer require answers to be simplified for future events.
Thank you organizers. I agree with the decision as participants should put all attention on solving the problem correctly. Otherwise, this might deter somebody from using an otherwise correct method that may give a non very clean answer. Thank you for the event, I look forward to this every year!! ❤
I mean, the question is which expression did he put the box on, if that was incorrect, it should be counted as incorrect. The others did not try to simplify, but they put the box on the right expression, their answers should have been accepted.
1:29:35 BRIAN (board1) was 2024 winner, a very strong player, but it felt like he was kinda falling off here, -2 score, to qualify he must solve his problem here cause no more round left. Also if everybody solves it he is out. With so much pressure, God sided with him and only Brian was able to solve this one and put himself on the board finally, Eventually went all the way to the final fighting against the top seeds, incredible comeback from Brian. ❤ You can see his reaction here after he solved it.
Im sry, but wut happened on problem 7 should nvr ever happen again. If theyre going to complain about simplification and ugly answers, they need to make better integrals where the answer is "HUMANLY" clean. Yes, WolframAlpha may give you an integer or a clean answer. But for the love of god, TESTSOLVE THEM and BE CONSIDERATE to what possible answers competitors will put down.
He mentioned that there is a "cleaner" method to solve the integral which will spit out a more simplified answer. However, I agree that we should not punish people for their method of choice.
it should be like either just accept an unsimplified answer or tell them that they need to find an integer, or a single rational number or whatever so that it's clear and same for everyone there shouldn't be a gray line between what is considered acceptable and what is not. edit: just saw their newly pinned comment, that's chill
What happened in question 7 is complete nonsense. Not accepting answers because they "look disgusting" when they are correct. What changes when someone tells you 2+2 instead of 4? Nothing!
He did not reject them for looking disgusting. At 38:50, he tells that the computation is a non trivial part of the integral implying that he intended the calculations to be included in the 2 minute time limit.
i think the rule about providing an simplified answer is a bit ambiguous. This was reflected in different judgements in accepting non-simplified answers in question 6 and rejecting non-simplified answers in question 7. I think as long as the answer is correct and reasonably solved (no matter the answer is most simplified or not), the answer should be accepted, since the time limit is as short as 2 minutes. I don't think there is enough time to simplify the answer provided by the contestants for question 7, unless they had a good mental arithmetic skills. Therefore, rejecting correct answers which were solved reasonably in question 7 is a bit unfair to the contestants.
He mentions that the point of rejecting non simplified answers is to help the graders out. However, the grader was able to verify question 7 in a reasonable amount of time for all boards. We should not introduce ambiguity into math when its not necessary. It's against the nature of mathematics.

It’s ok, WE yes, YOU and me forgive you, mitintergrationbee.

@@Tman1000-be7opYes, because you definitely can see right away that that method will give you a cleaner result.😂

@martinrosol7719 I think that is what the point of competition is tho, you gotta see the cleaner method to get ahead of others.
Luke partecipate every year...LEGEND!!!... he does not do the regular exams in order to repeat bee every year i think 😂
Prizes are absolutely amazing!😂😂😂
been waiting for this one
i cant wait for the next one!!
GO LUKE 🗣🔥
Either demand a single number as the answer or accept all unsimplified forms please. This was really annoying to watch.

The real question is how do you evaluate the little hand that appears in each equation?

What's the point? We have symbolic calculus.
I really don't understand it what's this i m 10th grader but insh.. I'll be there after 2-3 years standing there to compete cuz i like maths and cs
