It's left out of the anime, but when they meet on the bus in the manga, Light notices Raye has an accent and asks him about it, to which he responds that he's American, but his mother's Japanese. The reason Light had Raye write in the Death Note is because Light knew who the head of the FBI was through public information, but Light can only control someone if that thing is likely something they would do. It's not likely that the head of the FBI would post the names and faces of the FBI agents in Japan to the public. So instead Light has Raye write the name of the FBI agent heading the Kira investigation, and controls the head agent to send the names and faces of all the FBI agents to all the other FBI agents on the case, which is something which isn't as unlikely as making that information public. This is important because even Raye was unlikely to know every other agent on his mission,

The reason Light knew the file was coming was because he used the Death Note to control the FBI boss to send the files to all his agents, that's why he had Raye write the name of his boss first. I'm watching along with you guys for the first time, so I don't know that happens next, but here's my interpretation on Light.
I believe he has natural killer and manipulation tendencies (probably originating from being told he was a genius so often in his formative years), and that growing up under his dad's influence helped him mask his true desires under this supposed sense of "justice." He placated himself for years by rising to the top of the academic and social ladders and believing himself to be better than everyone. Using them, even. But now that he has the Death Note, he's willing to give himself permission to indulge in those dark desires. He's bought so heavily into his dad's sense of justice that he's convinced himself that he's only doing this because he's a "good person." But underneath, his true self is starting to show -- by attempting to kill L just for insulting him. For showing himself to Rey just for the satisfaction. He's quite the terrifying monster.

this is the correct interpretation of the truth.Light depends on its own idea.He did not even try to ask any questions, he did not develop any methods of selecting criminals, not a single doubt about his views and actions, he probably did not even open a single book, did not read a single philosophy. All he cared about was not the world, but his idea, under this idea was a thirst for power and recognition. In the end, he just wanted to destroy justice, which is essentially absurd.Completely blind to feelings , he did not care about humanity .In addition , uncontrolled selfishness , desire and boredom caused such frenzied impulses in him .

I don't think Raye was dismissing his fiance's skills at all - he openly said she was one of the best. But we only hear his frustration - she could easily be a workaholic where in so many other shows (and real life) she had no work life balance & its hurt her family and friends beyond the typical "call of duty". So many law enforcement & health care professionals have had to walk away from their careers for the sake of their own health & their family's health. Her being unable to just listen to her future husband vent vs try to get involved because it's too irresistible is not a good sign. Besides the fact investigators can't be bringing in people, no matter their skill, without their superiors approval so they shouldn't be going into details about an open investigation in the first place - if two people claim to want to be able to facilitate a future family & decided the only way to do that when they both have very demanding jobs is for one to no longer stay at that job, but that person can't let go they are now stringing the other person along & are in denial about the disconnect and future issues their family will have. We don't hear how she may have gushed & talked about wanting a bid family badly for years, so him bringing up running after kids would keep her busy and her mind off work (which is most likely true because motherhood is obviously a consuming role but just for humans but many animals) means nothing. People just ASSUME which if anyone took anything from Raye's fate is DO NOT ASSUME - Raye assumed Kira could only kill how Kira had REVEALED he could kill & Light assumed Raye's loved one was just some random person, dumber than him.

Gotta love the "Oof yikes" to the 4:50 comment XD Ray isnt being some mysoginist asshole here. Im pretty sure that kids and a normal life would be "better things" than pouring over the facts of grisly murder cases right? Not to mention her last big case nearly got her killed (not talked about in the anime but in another short book). I always find it funny that a man commenting on how a woman being a housewife could ever possibly be better than a career is seen as such a scandalous omg what a jerk thing to say XD

People brainwashed by Western Media and institutions to believe that career is more important than family and tradition is bad and oppressive even through even mainstream journals admit that women’s happiness has been on the decline in recent times despite moving away from traditional family values and stuff.
