Good video Steve, I personally have dug through all the settings and set my preferences. Tip if you change your phone number make sure two step verification is turned off before you deactivate your old number. Turn it back on when the new number is active.
I did not think to do this ahead of time and cannot access my Gmail account. It has been over a week now and no one has gotten back to me. Does anyone have any advice?
This just goes to show you that all of those people complaining about their online privacy are wasting their time. YOUR DATA IS OUT THERE! If you bank online or via cell phone...your data is there for the taking. Thanks for this brief tutorial on google settings. I, like many, had no idea of what what is going on behind the scenes. Fortunately, my setting were like yours. To this day, I do not recall how I got attached to google pay, unless it was when I paid for one of the apps. Thumbs up...already subbed.
Thanks Steve, I've been a Google user for over 15 years and pretty good about security, but have not gone through many of the features you have reviewed, like some devices I want to sell, accounts I no longer use , and more. Well I know what I'll be doing tonight!
I have absolute control over my account. I know where to go to change settings & what data I contribute to them. I review it every 6 months & Google sends me reminders. I use a lot of their services so I give them access to everything. It's shocking how many people don't bother to go through their accounts & complain about the data that companies take from us. I enjoyed this video. Thank you. 🙂 Always good to have reminders on some things.
finally I found someone to help me control my Google acct! they are monsters taking over your cell phone. thank you so much, I will be watching ALL your videos on this subject and others from now on. BL Austin TX
Great presentation. Looking forward to taking better understanding of Google account. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos to help me use mydevices.
wow, i learned more from you in this video, then what has taken me days to try to do. My reading comprehension struggles, especially tech ...and you are GREAT STEVE, THANK YOU.. New SUB and will go back and watch much more..Made my Weekend for sure !! Cheers
I have looked at SOME of these features at one time or another. Looks like I need to spend a few hours checking MORE of these features and looking at specific settings. Cheers!
As usual a real eye opener, very interesting and helpful, I was explain to an acquaintance of mine yesterday about using talk to print, I now even use it on my WhatsApp and also told my a daughter-in-law who is a teacher, I might have mentioned that before, but please keep informing us about things that make our lives safer and better. Regards DG New Forest U.K.
Thanks for this video. Whatever password manager you're going to use, it's best to use it with the double-blind method. The double-blind method means your usernames/passwords that are stored in your vault either have extra or missing characters. Basically, the usernames/passwords are incorrect. When you log in to your account you will get a login error; username and password are incorrect or didn't match. Because of this, you can't use the auto-login feature of the password manager. You need to copy and paste your username and password, and add or delete the missing character(s) before you click the login button. This method creates extra work but it gives you a piece of mine. A hacker could hack the password manager you are using but the information stored is useless to the hacker. The hacker would not be able to use the username/password to get into your account. Anyway, I'm using BitWarden.
Thanks for all this information and this video. I knew about this information but was apprehensive about going into some of these areas not know what they were all about or how to navigate them. You made that a lot easier to understand. Thanks again.
Even if we think we known it all, it is great to hear what you have to say on matters like this video content. I do think I have a handle on my account, but I gained value from what you had to say also. Personally, I think too many websites expect us to have an account and log in and in my opinion, that is not necessary on the most part. In consequence of all those unnecessary passwords, I do store them in the google password manager, and I assure you they are the only passwords I store there, and I have a method for dealing with that issue, so if they are acquired by others then it doesn't matter to me 'personally' and nothing is really gained for the effort of others.
I have to be honest I am an it and I'm somewhat of a computer geek but I have to be honest I didn't realize there was so much to do with Google and your privacy and security measures you have really opened my eyes further than what they were on all this I really appreciate it this video was definitely helpful informative and entertaining awesome thank you sir
Good video! Yes, recovery (Contact info) email and up-to-date mobile phone number are critical! In the past, it might have been able to escalate a lost password problem, now it seems near impossible. I would guess if you had Google One support set-up in advance, you MIGHT be able to get help somehow (but since most ways to contact Google One support involve being logged in, this might not even work).
Thanks a bunch for this video. Ever since Google bought RUclips, I’ve had to have a Google account to access my video channel & uploads. It’s nice to have your information here for controlling Google.
Thanks Steve! I moved away from using Google products a while ago, but I miss the "linkiness" - meetings arranged by Gmail automatically popping up in Calendar and so on. I know nothing is for free, but I think I'll end up returning to the big G despite the inevitable sharing of data.
Excellent Vlog - Google has become such an important part of my online existence. But now I have an even better idea that Google has a lot more to do with my life than just online stuff! This is all really a kind of double-edged sword?
Not only has my general trust in Google security improved over the last 5 years, the addition of the new Titan security key and Tenser chip has solidified that feeling enough for me to actually purchase a Pixel 6. Yea, their privacy policy is shameless, but as you point out, that aspect can be controlled. Excellent video. Thanks.
Thank you, Steve! Great information and clear explanations. Now I just have to get into Google and apply all of your sage advice. Wish I had you next to me ;-).
I know Google knows a great deal about me and I am concerned about it but Google gives so much benefit in return that it is worth the risk to me. I use Google Docs, Maps and Timeline and they are useful to me.
I'm still trying to understand this , the screen is so small I can't see what you're doing trying to learn how to make it a little bigger and it's still not visible enough for me to see, so I'll be trying to play it over and over till I can get a good understanding, but I really need to SEE IT, we'll make it so much BETTER THANK YOU
This is really appreciated. Many thanks. How do I get some control over Google Assistant on my phone? Tired of it popping up every other day offering one thing or another before I can even turn the phone off. Thnx.
Thank you for your excellent teachings. Is there a video in the archives about using Google Chrome securely? I am ‘thinking’ about purchasing the new Roland Aerocaster video switcher, however it only works with the Google Chrome Browser. Why would a 3rd party developer require a specific browser?
Good advise and details. I would like to see a video on encryption. No necessarily just Google encryption but for cloud storage. Maybe something on the line of Boxcryptor and etc. Thanks.
Can I like this FIVE TIMES? I use google a lot, and generally trust them (remember, “don’t be evil”), buuuuuuuuuut, it’s still smart to review what’s going on in such a robust, complicated, relationship. (BTW, shout-out to Last Pass (the first password manager you mentioned) … I’ve used it for years and am an enthusiastic supporter. … now G and I need to cuddle up and have a chat.
Thanks for the info Dottotech. This should be required viewing . I like Keepass because I don't want literally all my passwords in the hands of someone else.
My biggest challenge with Google Acconts has to deal with multiple accounts. I originally signed up for a second Google Account for my business. One for personal and another for business. Somehow, a couple more are now in the stable. When I saved documents and spreadsheets, I should have paid more attention to where they were saved. Now I'm retired and can't transfer documents and sheets to the respective Google Accounts. I've watched your RUclips videos nonstop for over a week and am no closer to a solution. If you have an applicable video, please recommend it to me.
I get email adds in each category, Primary, Social, and Forums. I have add personalization turned off. This started happening about a week ago. The report spam feature is turned off on these emails. Anyway to stop them? Best Regards, Kevin
Hi Steve.....thanks for this channel.....I've found it so easy to understand Can you help me....I like to watch RUclips videos my chrome laptop before I go to sleep.....is there a way I can have a sleep timer set up on it?
I don’t have a cell phone. My land line is all I put into Google when I set up my account on Google and I’ve forgotten my password. I don’t recall ever putting in any security questions either.
Do you have a video on why you don't recommend chrome + google password manager? Or is it mainly what you said at the end? I've tried Last Pass but found it annoying, especially the little icon that appears in all fields. Sometimes it even gets in the way. (I was user testing a site over zoom for a friend and they kept thinking something was wrong with their code! 🤣)
Thanks Steve for an interesting and revealing video. Just want to mention that there is something a bit "laggy" with your speech/lip sync. ( for me here in Sweden ) Cheers, Patrick
Appreciate the knowledge, much help. I'm kinda a caveman when it comes to electronics, seems like everytime I get around a computer it starts acting up, my favorite phone was hacked/ maybe I'm being gang stocked🤷🏼♂️never🕵️ really thought I was that interesting OR important guess I need to up my tech game!
I started a Google service toying around with setting up a website. Haven't used it for 2 years, but get bill $4.10 monthly. I haven't found any way to end the service since you can't talk to anyone. When I try to remove the credit card, it will not do it unless I add another card. I guess my only option is to kill the card.
I would contact the Card company and stop charges, But you should be able to cancel it inside of gogole Try asking here productforums.google.com/forum/#!home
I was looking in my subscriptions and there are some I dont use - how do I delete them - There is no money going to them - I just dont use them. How do I delete them please?
thanks for info. Perhaps you can help with another issue. I need to use the Flesch-Kincade algorithm for an academic class and cannot track the Google version (TRAY) down. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Kayte

Apps in my passwords manager. They won't delete, as it just asks me to sign into them each one at a time. How do I delete them as I can't find delete? Thanks
I was wondering if there is any way to caption individual images in a Google photo album? Also if I want to delete photos from my phone will they disappear from my Google photo album? I currently use iCloud backup , Amazon Prime photo (as I am a prime member and storage is unlimited) as well as Google Photo. Which of these three do you prefer? Is it true that if you delete images from your iPhone they will also be deleted fro your iCloud backup? Thanks. One way I protect my Google accounts is by using hardware 2FA in the form of a YubiKey. Folks may have my email address and even my password but without my key they can't get in.

All of the above settings I use myself and recommend to anyone who has watched this video or will watch it!
It all comes down to the ""details"" that we did not know Google knows. As always, Steve is a reliable source of "details' we need. Thanks, Steve

Thanks for posting this. I believe that this is something people should be paying more attention to.
I agree!
Excellent and informative video Steve . I find your content is first class many thanks. From over at the UK .
I dialed in just in time for an important training session by a Google Professor now I am paying close attention.

Google was to me a bit like Kafka's castle. You have helped to changet that. Feeling more empowered in relation to Google. Many thanks.
Great video Steve, I do have control of my google accounts.
PEOPLE DONT TRUST GOOGLE

2 step verification is very tricky if you change phone numbers a lot so only turn on if you plan to use it for a while or have a backup code
Thankyou so much man, real life saver :).
