  • Would you share your data for the common good? Biomechanist Jacqueline Alderson shows how sophisticated simulations based on real data can help prevent disease, illness and injury. Jacqueline Alderson is an Associate Professor of Biomechanics at the University of Western Australia and Adjunct Professor of Human Performance, Innovation and Technology at the Auckland University of Technology. She has always been curious about movement - whether it’s helping surgeons make best practice decisions or helping AFL players avoid knee injuries. She now travels the world to share her knowledge in human movement, wearable tech and artificial intelligence and its role in tracking, analysing and intervening in the human condition. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Prof Alderson is one of the foremost sports biomechanists in the world. Unless you can also say that about yourself you should probably show a little bit of respect.

Sadly none of the hard work was performed by her… all done by students and other researchers. Yet standing there boldly, getting all the glory by presenting other people’s work.

Not every scientist/researcher is necessarily a good presenter. I know plenty of researchers/scientists that would freeze up if you put them up in a small room of people on the spot. I've seen developer teams lose competitions simply because they presented their idea poorly.

I do think she should've given the research team more public credit although not every presenter is trying to steal the glory of the research, just saying.

Targeted individuals being murdered quietly & experiment on. Lovely sounds like someone’s going to pick & choose who lives or dies. Cheers transhumanists

Its your statement and the kind of mindest that inspires it that actually enables the atrocities you just aforementioned, even more than the "oblivious" average persons who shares their data uncritically. Instead of the abstract skepticism and paranoia, why not apply it to actively influencing the direction this actually goes.
