I totally agree, the goblin barrel evolution is good in every deck archetype other than log bait. Which is how everybody uses the card, making an evolution goblin barrel with shield or that survives log makes much more sense.
This challenge was really stupid because I went 12-1 but I played against a bunch of 9000 trophy ultimate champions and only won due to lava hound and balloon being in my deck every game 😂

Goblin barrel is worth it on its own if undefended. Decoy barrel isn't, because the decoys are fragile. If you can't afford to tank both lanes, then the goblin barrel should go solo and the decoy one should go to the lane that you'll tank. That way you protect your most fragile goblins. Also, you said that it is designed to be a 1-0 win condition. Maybe the evolution seeks to change precisely that: as you've seen, evo goblin barrel is strong against the king tower because you can throw both barrels on the tower.

But if it’s between evo barrel and evocracker, or evo barrel and evo knight/wizard, the choice is very obvious. The last challenge really got me into challenge 2v2 though, which is fun because each teammate gets an evo.
