I forgot to say, don't forget to shop ethnic markets! Sometimes they are cheaper for staple items and have better selections for things like rice varieties! Get different types for different flavors!Basmati is so different than Niko Niko and different than jasmin, etc!
Scottish viewer here! So glad to have found ye! Have you tried cooking your dehydrated rice in a flask? I’m wanting to get in to flask cooking to save energy
Invest in a rice cooker for proper rice. Try a good rice like Niko Niko. Wash Niko Niko in a bowl and rinse and drain until clear. Put in the rice cooker and put enough water over the rice that is the first finger joint of your middle finger on the rice. The rice maker makes all the difference! I have a tiny Wolfgang puck model, perfect for 1 or 2 people!
I wouldn't bother to be honest, It's a complete waste of time, cook the rice as you need it. Dehydrating rice at home can be extremely dangerous due to the long process of drying and the bacteria on the rice developing . Rice should be cooked fresh then eaten straight away, it can be kept in the fridge once it has cooled and must be eaten and reheated within one day.
It does indeed but by cooking it and then dehydrating, it will only take a minute or so of boiling to get ready for a meal which will be a great benefit if there is a power cut.

Good to know, unfortunately we don't have any of them locally

I haven't tried it yet but I have a flask and I am hopeful at getting around to it soon

does the rice not start out dehydrated?

Can I ask what dehydrator you use please?
Hi Annie - I have an Electriq that I got from appliances direct - it is on offer now for £89 - there was a spell when it was almost double that
Not sure I understand the whole point of this process.
It is to cut down the cooking time in case of a power cut. The dehydrated cooked rice only needs two minutes of boiling.
I agree , there is " no point" its also a very dangerous thing to do , due to the bacteria developing in the slow drying process.
