    I used to work at the power station during this time. I was the gopher and I was always fixing things getting coffee, spicing tapes normalizing the board and talking with Bruce a lot he even pulled out the cassette of Nebraska out of his pocket and jokingly said that he actually almost lost it. It was a great honor to work with Bruce during this time. It’s pretty cool to see the studio that I knew so well long live Bruce so humble what a great guy and his whole band was also comprised of wonderful souls.

    I grew up about 20 miles from Bruce Springsteen, also had a difficult childhood and as a high school student, liked to write. In 1978 an English teacher asked me if I liked his music and I said, "I can't understand what he's singing." The teacher told me to pick up the Darkness album and read the lyrics as I listened. When I heard the words from Adam Raised a Cain, "Daddy worked his whole life for nothing but the pain, now he walks these empty rooms, looking for something to blame" I had found my favorite artist. While many were saying, "What the hell is he doing!" when Nebraska was released; I enjoyed sitting in my room and listening to the hauntingly dark and powerful songs. Looking forward to this movie!

      He’s an absolute poet. I’m an English Prof & I’ve not only sat thru seminars on his writing, but I’ve taught entire sections of Creative Writing on his lyrics and has students really connect with him who had only heard of him, but never “heard” him before. I’m excited to see what they’ll do with this.

      @StephenAldamaman I thought I was the only who realized this with Timothee’s performance! He made him way too nasally half the time. Some coach probably told him he talks how he sings, which is only partly true. Dylan really in reality just sounded like a 60’s stoner. I agree that annoyed me too, but I think it was only half the time. Still great movie I thought

    I met Bruce Springsteen when I was in hospital one Christmas over a decade ago. It was very brief, barely a nod, but he would come in to see his godson and play guitar with him regularly. He was so quiet, unassuming. Seeing this side of a musician I had grown up listening to gave me a whole new perspective and respect for the man behind the music. Looking forward to seeing the film. Perfect casting.

    • @jenniferschillig3768
      @jenniferschillig3768 7 months ago +1

      Yeah, I *like* biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody, but RUclipsr Patrick Willems isn't wrong when he says biopics like this, which focus on an aspect of or time period in a person's life are usually better than the kind that try to tell a musician's whole life story. As he points out, these often fall into a predictable formula: musician on verge of big comeback concert flashes back to entire life, we see musician's childhood issues that musician must face and overcome by the end, musician starts off in small venues, musician wins over skeptical record producer with [insert well-known first hit], musician interacts with/gets advice from other legendary musicians, musician's fame takes off, musician gets mired in dark side of fame with (a) infidelity (b) substance abuse (c) mental heath issues (d) any combination thereof, often leading to rupture and/or breakup of first marriage, musician enters rehab/psychological treatment where they learn to deal with aforementioned childhood issues, musician reconciles with spouse or finds new love, musician stages comeback, we end on aforementioned triumphant comeback concert, freeze frame and superimposed text. Patrick also points out that if Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story had been a success, musician biopics would no longer follow that formula because that movie skewered each and every one of these tropes so beautifully.

      @bikeman1x11they temporarily replaced the signage in front of the Stone Pony with the original marquee. The inside doesn't look much different than how it looks today. In Asbury Park they only filmed at the Stone Pony, the carousel and at the beach.

    Grew up near exit 5 on the turnpike. In 1976 I was 15, and My father ordered some eight track tapes from Columbia House in the mail. The promotion was order like 10 albums for the price of one, and then you have to pay for another 10 at full price plus shipping/handling. When they arrived, there was tapes from Carly Simon, James Taylor , Boz Skaggs, EW&F, Paul Simon, ELO, and some older stuff my parents liked. In that mix was Born to Run on 8 track. We played it until it melted.

    All of my life my friends have told me that they can’t understand what I see in Bruce Springsteen or what I like about his music. And the funny thing is - I can’t really explain it to them. His music speaks to me. It’s a very personal experience that is deep and is real. The phrase “Deliver me from nowhere” comes out of two different songs on the Nebraska album: “Open All Night” and “State Trooper”. That one line described a very specific point in my life when I was going nowhere and my life seemed to have no point. A therapist later diagnosed me as being suicidal and had me sign a suicide contract promising I wouldn’t cash in my own chips. Springsteen’s music gave me an outlet that allowed me describe what I was going through in my own heart and mind, but by using the words of his songs.

      I couldn't either until another documentary about him summed it up. Bruce's early songs are about leaving home and finding your world. Dusting off the chains of our hometowns and getting on a motorcycle to find adventure. I discovered him as I was applying to college and dreaming of a new me. He captured my desire to change and grow. When I hear his old songs I feel like they are all about the possibilities and it's thrilling.

    I was 14 when Born in the USA broke the top 40 and I became aware of Bruce Springsteen. The family I babysat for had a top of line stereo system, and the dad was a huge Springsteen fan. One night, curious, I pulled out the LP of Born to Run and put it on. I still remember sitting on the living room floor as Thunder Road washed over me, amazed. I must have played that album 100 times on that family’s stereo. I can’t thank them enough.

      He looks NOTHING like him! This is the problem with biopics that cast famous actors. You can't ever watch them and lose yourself in who they are supposed to be. Your brain is always going 'that's so and so, doing all their acting', lol. Casting an unknown is the only answer but ofc no film at this level can be financed with an unknown. Vicious circle. Stephen Graham (adore) took me out of it too as his dad. Love Bruce. The film looks ok but casting is an issue. Same with the Dylan film. Some of it is great (some is bad) but you find yourself admiring the great perf without ever letting Timmy disappear.

    • @foxross4468
      @foxross4468 7 months ago +6

      Scott's pretty underrated in general. Not that people don't love his movies. Crazy Heart is great. People talk about Black Mass quite a bit (maybe more as a performance movie than as a whole piece of art) but I can't say Scott has a movie I don't like and Out of the Furnace is one of the most realistic depictions of blue collar Appalachia that I've seen. It just seems people don't recognize Scott as the guy behind them. Tl;dr I absolutely agree haha

    I grew up at the Jersey shore, my family lived in Lavallette and Neptune, my dad grew up in Allenhurst blocks away from Asbury Park. He worked at the old hotel as a teen and met Bruce several times back in the day as he was coming up, playing Stone Pony, hanging around the boardwalk. Got to see Bruce myself at the Summer Stage one year when he was a surprise guest for longtime friend of his Southside Johnny. Listening to dad's stories, I always had a strong appreciation growing up for Bruce. His music was always a part of our lives. And I always appreciated that he remained so humble, approachable, the people's rock star, and never once forgot his roots. Indeed he's embraced his roots so strongly they are as forever bonded to his mythology as his music. He is as much a part of the culture and soul of the Jersey shore as salt water taffy and skeeball. And we're lucky we got a guy like him as one of our patron saints.

    I’ll never forget the thrill of my first Springsteen live concert. 9/15/84, a packed Philadelphia Spectrum. It was the Born in the USA tour. Across the street, at JFK Stadium, Michael Jackson was charging an astonishing $50 for a one hour show. The Boss was charging $12.50 and playing for four solid hours of all out, heart pounding, adrenaline producing rock ‘n’ roll glory. There must’ve been 20,000 or more of us stuffed in that arena and none of us sat in our seats for more than a second. Bruce and the fabulous East Street Band played until we nearly dropped. I remember him screaming, “Are you getting tired?” Hah! Never!!
    Is it possible for a single concert to be life-changing?
    Yes. I’m from the Jersey shore, grew up on Highway 9. I was a fan of Bruce long before that show. But after that show? I became a disciple.

    He has been my favorite artist for the best part of my life, since 1978's Darkness. I am originally from the UK and went to America as a dream of mine as a 19 year old largely inspired by Bruce's music. I lived there for 38 years (served 4 years in the army) until the country simply betrayed me in 2016, but the thing about Bruce is that when singing about America he gave me the good, bad and the ugly and he has been right about it all. His music has spoken to me in a way that nobody else's has from the dream and promise of America, to having a similar relationship with my father as he did with his and to all the stories of salvation and redemption. Cannot wait to see this movie. I just listened to the audiobook by the same name and while the narrators voice was tough the story is mesmerizing.

      Saw him..back in 78', in Detroit ( Cobo Hall ) near, front row. I paid $ 35.00 per ticket. My best friend, well known Rock photographer, Ross Marino, got me tickets ( Ross died in 88' swimming accident ) Now, you would pay probably, 5k per seat, to see him..

    This actually looks pretty good - the sepia tone and "repairman" are razor sharp.

      In actuality all he does is give concerts on other countries bad mouthing America. Springsteen is a clown. A Hollywood weirdo pretending to be the average working man. It’s a grift.

      Fits right in with Bruce’s self righteous sanctimonious ego.

      all he did was whine about living in the best part of NJ- i grew up about 10 menutes from where he did and it was awesome then- now NJ is a sh*thole in most places but freehold area was awesome

      He was phenomenal... I was shocked at how good he played Bruce, down to the way Bruce walks and talks and moves on stage, and even the way he lays down on a sofa that I think the actor must have learned from deeply studying photographs ...and Im most amazed at how that was actually Jeremy singing Bruce:s songs when I thought it was Bruce ....😮

      Yeah the stage scene is Bruce, but everything else is Jeremy according to the director.

    I can't wait to see this. My dad went to high school with Bruce and played the keyboard in one of his first short-lived bands as a teenager (of course, he tells everyone he meets this claim to fame). The movie premieres close to my dad's birthday and I’m excited to take him to the theatre to see the film. It looks great.

      I probably saw him in one of these: Castiles, Steel Mill, or Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom. They played for dances at the Farmingdale Methodist Church and Howell High. 😁

    WOW! I honestly forgot I was watching Jeremy Allen White . Bruce Springsteen has a great big heart and you could always hear that in the message of his music . The healing words and sounds in The Streets of Philadelphia .I appreciate the courage and Love in that song . What a great body of work he has produced. Thank you Bruce Springsteen and thank you Jeremy Allen White ! I hope this movie is well received because it comes at a crucial time. I hope it inspires hearts to bring healing instead of destruction. ❤ ❤❤ Like his music .
