I think my back yard only has the English sparrows this guy hares. But they are checky little guys who are not afraid of me. They hop around close enough to see not afraid of me. They bring me much joy.

Sparrows went from being one of my least favorite families of songbirds to one of my absolute favorites. On any birding trip here in the east that turns up swamp, white crowned, fox, or Lincoln's sparrows, you would be hard pressed not to call them a highlight of the trip.

Very nice video. Sparrows are an interesting and diverse group of birds. Where I live, in southeastern BC, Canada, they are far more common than warblers. I usually identify sparrows by their song, since you often cannot get a good look at them. It would have been useful to include the song of the Savannah Sparrow, as it is distinctive and aids identification of this species.

Juncos, towhees and crowned sparrows always all at our feeder, and all very different critters for being cousins.

Great video with a lot of information. I'll have to watch it over and over, however, to try to get my sparrows straight!

Me too. Humans are far more invasive and destructive species, it was also humans that brought house sparrows from Europe to America, I detest those that speak ill or mistreat such lovely little birds.

American Sparrows are my favorite animal family! My favorite American Sparrow is the Dark-eyed Junco, and I also like the White-throated Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow, and Eastern Towhee.

I love sparrows, but I find their numbers are dwindling, I have many feeders , I never cared what bird comes because the whole idea is to feed the bird, not to watch them, I would welcome even crows, but the last 2 years, I find the sparrows are disappearing, not only at my ranch, but almost everywhere, I suspect cellphones and cellphones antennas and other Wi-Fi gizmos are causing them harm , even the birds that nobody like , the famous "black birds" this year I get a much smaller number, usually I get a lot of them, they love to eat suet cakes, when they arrive, they eat about 10 cakes of suet per day, but when they have their chicks, they eat like there is no tomorrow, we move to 15 cakes per day, and when the babies start to fly, they are addicted to the suet and we move to 20 cakes per day, I believe they eat suet because there are no bugs to fed their babies, as with each passing year, the number of insects are also dwindling. Wake up people, insects, bees and birds are disappearing because we want everything wireless.
