I think Saw Gerrera’s big issue is that he fought his war on a galactic scale which made it impossible for our poor guy to connect with the people on the ground. Like in Fallen Order, Saw shows up, kicks the imperials in the Teeth, then leave
And then the Empire squeezes down on the planet - now partisan free

Maybe Chuchi is here on behalf of Bail Organa. In the rebel files book, he and Mon mothma were looking for capable allies and observing lone rebel cells to see if they could demonstrate military competency on their own.

The Early Rebel Alliance was lucky to have survived considering how disorganized they were, and really starting to show the incompetence of the Early Imperial Governance in trying to suppress these early Rebel Cells, but it will be interesting to see that the Rebellion fought more of a shadow war against the Empire and it was only after Mon Montha declaration of Rebellion that when they declared war against the Empire.

Autocratic governments are very incompetent, as they usually pride loyalty above competency, which rarely mix together.

It is really curious that the actress who plays Mothma, Genevieve O'Reilly, in Disney's live-action and animated products already played her many years before in "Revenge of the Sith", even though all of her scenes were eventually eliminated from the final cut. The truth is that getting O'Reilly back instead of looking for a new actress was a really good choice, since not only the woman is a bombshell, but also perfectly captures the characterization of the Mothma from Episode VI.

One thing's for certain, if I had my way, I'd actually keep her (though mostly as a voice actor; my angle would not be way too dependent on live action stuff) in case Legends gets deservedly revived for the continuity getting a proper endgame. Same with Bail's actor Jimmy Smit.

I'd still rather prefer resistance groups with successful Operation Domino capabilities in other media; the Lambda Resistance from Half-Life 2 is a really good example.
Am just not a huge fan of constantly Pyrrhic guerrilla actions for such groups like the Kreisau Circle remnants from Wolfenstein: The New Order+The Old Blood... is it any wonder why the TIE Fighter video game still resonates with me more compared to X-Wing and X-Wing Alliance?

  • @Kishuun

The Rebellion follows a trend that occurs to many guerrilla and insurgent groups in our world.
Many guerrilla groups often try to fight their enemies directly or on the enemies' terms and get crushed early on, but retreat and come back stronger than ever. This can be seen throughout history with the U.S. Continental Army, China's People's Liberation Army, and the Taliban as some examples.
With the Rebellion, after Operation Domino, the leadership realized that disorganized uprisings would be unable to achieve the desired operational and strategic outcomes and can be isolated and crushed piecemeal.
This led to the forming of the organization of the Rebellion using Sector Forces for local operations and harassment in a sector of space and Alliance Forces for strategic operations across the galaxy. These forces collaborate, but are otherwise independent from one another to lessen the burden on and retain the operational tempo of Alliance High Command.

Frankly, the Rebellion could have defeated the Empire through open conflict, especially when aided by guerilla strategies. Their primary issue was a lack of galactic organization, and neglecting to incorporate industrial powers before the later periods of the war.
For example, before releasing the Declaration of Rebellion, the Alliance should have undertaken a massive covert effort every possible allied world in the galaxy and get them all on the same page and politically unified before making the move. This is of course exactly what the American colonies felt they should do before they could declare independence, in order to present a united front. Ideally for the Rebellion, this should have included every possible ex-Separatist world, and as many core worlds as possible in order to disrupt Imperial cohesion.
They really also should have focused on gaining allies within industrial sectors, anyone with the ability to produce ships and weapons on a large scale. The Empire was notorious for nationalizing industries, so it should be possible to turn some such powers against the Empire. Similarly, third parties would also be important, in particular Hapes was a constant target of Imperial harassment. Similar to the Clone Wars, they should have also sought out some kind of alliance with the Hutts.
However, their biggest issue of all was one of time. They waited far too long to organize themselves. In the preceding twenty years, countless planets and rebel movements had turned against the Empire, only to be crushed in isolation. They needed to be making overtures to many of these groups much much earlier, linking them up into a greater movement. They lost a LOT simply from inaction.

The fact that Bel Iblis was just able to be a dissident openly in the Senate, with his level of influence over major Core systems, is baffling to me. Like, the purpose of ISB and COMPNOR was to keep the internals of the Empire in check ideologically, of which the Senate is a MAJOR part. So why was he just allowed to be an open dissenter? The explanation that he “was protected by his homeworld’s history of cranky independence” is a poor hand wave by the authors, imo.

    • @TimberWolf99
      @TimberWolf99 3 месяца назад

Corellia was also one of the most powerful systems, especially with CEC's industrial power, and Bel Iblis was incredibly popular among all the peoples of the Corellian system (not just Corellians themselves, he was also well liked by the Selonians, Talusians, Tralusians, and Drall) and undoubtedly utilized his own security and ships. He quite simply can't be arrested or threatened without Corellia going into open rebellion and there is no way to assassinate him without it being incredibly obvious. It wasn't until he had *provably* rebelled and after decades of working their claws into Corellian society and institutions that the Empire could do anything material against him, and even then he was not only able to go into hiding but start his own splinter rebellion entirely through the influence he still held, and him re-emerging from hiding and joining the New Republic went a long way to (albeit temporarily) getting Corellia to wholly integrate into the New Republic.

I'm super sorry for hijacking this comment section, but I have a question and I don't know a better place to ask it: Would you (Corey and anyone else who reads this) recommend the Fallen Republic mod for Stellaris or should I just stick with Thrawn's Revenge (which I haven't played yet, either)? I've always had an eye on Stellaris and considering that there's a Steam Sale now, I'm not sure if I want to buy it or not. I think the base game isn't worth it on its own (and with all the DLCs, it's absurdly expensive), so I'd just buy it for the Star Wars mod, but is it worth it?

I'm hoping that there is some connection within Bad Batch to Mon Mothma's/Luthen's storyline in Andor(from the perspective that their approach to combating the Empire in Andor is because they saw the disastrous results of Chuchi and Sing years earlier). An attempt to openly oppose the Empire militarily fails and discourages any coordinated efforts until the disparate rebels cells start banding together years down the road. Essentially, Bad Batch might give us the Clone Rebellion and a quasi opperation Domino(from the perspective that it shows conventional warfare against the Empire is not possible without years of building up secretly while pecking at them with hit-and-run tactics).
