@@cjaltamirano9970 if what you say is true then I imagine the singlet grab was a caution which I believe is the tiebreaker even given priority over last score or biggest score
Like everyone else, it sure seemed like Austin won that match. I wish someone would explain how they got that final score; especially at the end. His coach should have challenged it. Anyone who has ever wrestled before knows; life isn't always fair.
Austin did get hosed but the final winner was correct. The first criteria is highest point moves first and the Ukranian had (3) 2pt moves and Austin had (2) 2pt moves and (2) 1 pt moves.
It doesn't work like that, the highest point move gets criteria but if blue scores (2) 2 point moves and (2) 1 point moves and red scores (3) 2 points moves it depends on who scored last. Criteria go as follows: 1. Cautions 2. If no cautions, highest point move 3. If both wrestlers have the same highest point move, it depends on who got the last point
No who scored last is important but the highest point moves also factor, Austin didn’t match for highest point even if he scored last that’s like saying you’re up 2-0 on a takedown and I get 2 push outs at the end of the match. You’re still winning on criteria because you have a 2 point takedown and I got a couple 1 point push outs.
Shouldn’t the score have been 7-6 desanto? After the reversed the 9-4, the score was 4-3. Desanto gets taken down, 6-3, reversal desanto, 6-4, step out desanto, 6-5, take down by Desanto, 7-6 winner by decision Austin Desanto. Whole match is weird
Looking at the scoreboard they didn't give him the reversal points. Would they have gone back to the neutral position regardless there? Not sure how that works with going out of bounds and then a restart in freestyle.
Yea that’s what I noticed too they never added the reversal point which was really weird. The way I understand it, idk why it’s not 7-6 and why nobody said anything
My man DeSanto got hosed. The way they're adding up the score seems to be some kind of theoretical math. Maybe they just figured it's much too advanced for everyone's primitive conceptual framework and nobody would dare question it.🤔

Yo look at all the haters in these comments saying he grabbed the singlet. Let's get something straight here, the grab was unintentional so shouldn't have been called with flagrant intent. This whole match Desanto was completely robbed. I don't think I've seen that shite of a miscarriage in reffing in a long time. Straight up robbed.
He lost the match fair and square, simply because he hasn't yet grasped the subtle differences in freestyle vs folkstyle. For example, he tried sending his opponent over his back on the first takedown, actually scoring less points than his opponent in the process! Once DeSanto learns how to wrestle freestyle, he will be a beast. His former coach Tom Brands ran into the same dilemma when he started wrestling freestyle out of college, but eventually adapted and brought home olympic gold. This was a great learning experience for DeSanto. Relatedly, look at how Yanni performed against Gomez. I would say Yanni was use to wrestling freestyle and underestimated the transition back to folkstyle -- transitioning between the rule sets is incredibly difficult!
I was laughing at how there were so many high fives between desanto and yatsenko in the first period. Points are weird and I think DeSanto outwrestled this guy.

No he lost fairly. Blue challenged and grabbing the singlet negated the points desanta scored. Then blue won on criteria. He had 3 2 points moves which beats red's two takedowns and two pushout points.
Desanto should have won that. The stupid scramble exchange should have been avoided. He also grabbed the singlet like a stupid ass. Instead of controlling the match, Desanto got in situations where Yatsenko can score easily.
I’m so confused… why’d they take away the 12 extra points Austin scored. But anyways, he’s so dangerous now that he has his temper under control. Looks like a legit Olympic wrestler now
Get rid of criteria. Either make every single thing worth 1 point and criteria then makes sense. But not when different things are awarded different points.
And looks like at 10:23 DeSanto should've gotten 2 points (1 push out + 1 + caution) as confirmed by both the ref and the chair guy, but he only went from 3 -> 4 instead of 3 -> 5. Man so many bullshit calls!!
