    Great to see you on the road Chris. !!!The roads have been feeling lonely waiting for you. No monster hills to suck your life force but instead headwinds.
    Next gen solar power charging getting more efficient.

      Russell Orrell Thanks. Yes this power system with the Surface Pro 3 as the battery drainer works a lot better. Is almost winter so the sun is not as high as usual. I'm heading north which could help a little. (For me any way.) Lots of gravel if I go the one I'm aiming at the moment. The only real problem if it rains lots on the gravel roads, I don't go know where. Just hope not to much rain ?. Cheers now the pack up and leave.

    Great video. Looks like it was a fantastic trip. I've just abandoned solar in favor of a 15000mah battery that I will just charge at occasional restaurants/cafes/service stations, etc. ...but then I'm charging only a phone & travelling in South Korea. We have loads of cheap accomodation and camping is a bit more tricky! I'm looking forward to doing some touring in Australia in the next few years, thanks for the inspiration. :-)

      +Korean Rooftop Yes solar does have weight and every bit does count on a bicycle. In the outback not many places to charge so solar has worked for me. (I run a surface pro 3 and do video editing on which does require power.) I'm just about to start the process of selling the car and heading back to the bike wherever I end up. Cheers Chris.

    Nice video Chris! As a fellow long distance cyclist, who is about to tour the states, can I ask some random questions (that in no way are meant to be a criticism)?
    Why did you decide on the one wheel voyager trailer? over an actual pull behind cargo trailer like the B.O.B or Maya. It looks like an extra tire and tube for not pulling much behind you. And you have front panniers? but have a good load riding right on top of the rear tire. It looks like a heavy load too? How much does your gear weigh?

      No it's a normal bike. With an internal hub. It's quiet a few year's old now the video. I would probably go with a light weight 50 watt solar if you want lots of power for laptop etc.

    Hi Chris. Appreciate your time to put together your video, with some wildlife added too. I have a someone delicate question to put to you, which you can not answer if you like. My question is- do you do a poo out on the land, or are you close enough to towns or highway cafes that you can wait til then to visit the loo?

      In the bush there are no toilets, so I go to the toilet in the bush it is no problem.

    Nice video man. :D
    I wish I could do the same same thing here in Brazil, but unfortunately it's too unsafe and violent around here to camp on isolated areas... I would probably get my bike stolen or get assaulted.
    Most of my trips are with my small car, but I hope one day to be able to convert my tiny Ford Fiesta Mk5 to electric, make some weight reduction on it and put couple solar cells to cruise the country with the sunlight energy.

      @ChrisRishworth  7 лет назад

      Can be dangerous anywhere I've had bullets fly past my head since I was 13 years old in Australia. Camping in remote areas. 99 % of the time it's safe in Australia. Love the idea of changing your car to electric. I wish the same thing at the moment I've got a Getz that I've lived in for over two years now. All the best cheers Chris.

    Have you found the solid solar panels better than the semi flexible fold up type?

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  5 лет назад

      At first I used a fold up 60 watt solar film which weighed about 1.4 kgs. Which was good but could only be used when I stopped not when I was on the bike. At the time I decided I wanted to charge well I was on the move as I was on the bike a lot of the time. So end up with the set up in this video which has a 18 watt a 17 watt & a 6 watt on the front all charging different batteries. This seemed ok but was a bit of a hasle setting up each day. On the rough roads by Rockhampton all the connection had become broken or sensitive to say the least. In the end they all didn't work due to connection and wires bending to much. So now I've gone back to A AllPower solar charge 60 watt fold up 1.36 kgs with 2 usb output at 2.1amps & 12 volt power output. This way I just setup when I'm at camp ( I'll just have a day of rest day for charging making videos or on my lunch break. Saving the connections & setting up issues I had.) With the 60 watt I have a very good power source for rendering & making videos with my surface pro 3, charging my phone & cameras. I'm currently using at 50 watt hour goal zero sherpa & Voltaic 70 watt hour. I'm going to change to a 50,000 mah single lithium battery soon.
      Now having said all that you can't take a 50,000 mah on a plane it's not allowed. If you just travel on good roads sealed & don't need to much power you could go a solid panel they should be fine with a smaller battery. I do use a lot of power & you almost never get the wattage it says on the panels due to sun direct, cloud etc. Hope that helps.

    Must be easy to bicycle in this flat country. Are you allowed to freecamp in Australia ?

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  8 лет назад

      +SkandikFilm It's flat in lots of places but there are some hills. Highest mountain 2228 metres not totally flat. Free camping is allowed in most state forests. A small fee in national parks. You can generally camp free in the outback out of towns. East coast not so easy.

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  9 лет назад

      +Magic Matrix I've been using a Canon sx60 HS bridge camera. It's got a good zoom distance for wildlife. It's not working the best these days it must have got dust in the lense some how. Was good for a year.

    I've seen a quite a bit of videos about touring in Australia. And the one main trend I see is people setting up camp at any location they see fit. Is Australia a free for all for camping, or do you need to ask permission before doing so?

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  9 лет назад +2

      +LandofNone Camping in Australia. Ok in the outback away from the towns generally you can camp just about anywhere. (Not on private property). Most State Forest or (Crown land) you can camp at. National Parks small fee only in designated areas. The East Coast of Australia close to the coast can be very difficult. Most is private land or there will be sign's up with no camping and big fines.

    I'm going to get the extrawheel and was wondering if you could load it up more than you did. if so why didn't you?

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  9 лет назад +1

      +exodous02 I have loaded it more in the past and it was ok up to about 25 kgs. When the volume was full a lot sometimes it started to fishtail when you would get a side wind. On this trip I was using it for water 20 litres.

    • @exodous02
      @exodous02 9 лет назад

      +Chris Rishworth That is still more than I was planning on loading it with. Looks like it will still be the trailer for my trip.

    Hi Chris , Im from Morocco ,I do bycicle touring with my home made trailer , and as it knows Morocco is all about mountains. I wanted to ask you . Do you feel sometimes you can't continue , no energy , and you want to throw up . because I do have those sensations after hours of cycling. what do you do ? or recomend ?

    • @ChrisRishworth
      @ChrisRishworth  7 лет назад

      Thanks. That's only happened a few times where I've hit the wall as such. Generally it's if I don't drink enough water say every 15 to 30 mins or eat more than two hours intervals. Sometimes you just have to rest drink and eat and give your body 30 mins to 1 hour before continuing. Out on big rides I've found the powder energy drinks to be good for the energy as sometimes it's hard to drink enough water otherwise. Cheers Chris.
