  • Why Did So Few Jedi Wield Double-Bladed Lightsabers? Various Sith, Inquisitors and Sith assassins wielded duel blades, but they were exceptionally rare amongst the Jedi Order. Although less rare in the Old Republic era, barely any Jedi used such weapons by the Clone Wars. Double-bladed lightsabers utilised acrobatics, long thrusting moves and a great deal of force energy as Pong Krell demonstrated pretty effectively against the 501st legion. But this technique was very similar to Form 7, the very aggressive and forbidden Sith lightsaber style used by Darth Maul. And as was the case with Pong Krell, this could easily lead a Jedi down the path of the dark side.

      Lightsaber Forms aren’t actual techniques, but rather strategies to implement. If you watch lightsaber duels, everyone pretty much uses the same moves, but use different strategies. Let’s say that everyone uses flips and acrobatics to fight, but form 4 users do it more often. Or everyone uses the saber in one hand to get better reach, but form 2 users do that more often. But to get back to original comment, a double bladed light saber wouldn’t be a very good defensive weapon. It would be cumbersome and would get in the way unless you are constantly spinning it in a figure 8 pattern.

    not to be a hater or anything, but where exactly is it stated that taking double bladed saber leads to the dark side? Specially since Double Bladed combat would probably be coming from either Form 6 Niman (which is probably the main reason Jedi dont use it too often), or derives from jar-Kai which was not often seen.

    • @K3end0

      I guess the idea is you need to be aggressive and willing to be powerful to effectively used a double blade, which is opposed to many Jedi's beliefs and why many jedi did not gravitate to using them. Same thing with dooku's tilted blade and dueling style, to really embrace the style you need to embody a different philosophy to combat many jedi weren't comfortable with.

    • @Hypercat0
      @Hypercat0 Год назад +11

      @@K3end0 well, why would they be aggressive to be using the double bladed saber?
      Fighting with more than one blade has derived from Form 6 Niman ( the tricksters form) , not form 7 which is Juyo the Sith style (excluding Vaapad cause only 1-2 jedis are using that). Being aggressive is def against the jedi philosophy, but has nothing to do with using the double blade. If so Anakin would have made it its main form.
      Maul's showcase of double blade combat directly comes from form 6 as he was a Master of Niman,more than he was at Juyo.
      Now the only reason i see why not many jedi are picking up the double blader is that Niman training takes up to a Decade to be decent at the form and than from there to start actual battle training takes at least another 5.
      TLDR: Double blader=Niman form 6= way too long to train. But has nothing to do with dark side

Instead of learning how to make peace, they'd be learning how to apply force. What would the purpose be? Who were they planning on fighting? The only (known) saber wielders left in the galaxy (at the time) were other Jedi.
      Niman is a hybrid form, which makes it hard to master but also easy to learn. Many Jedi used Niman since it covered all the basics and was simple enough to pick up, so they could spend more time studying noncombat disciplines. Many of those died on Geonosis. Had they put in the time learning to really fight like Maul did, it would have been considered unseemly at best and dangerous at worst

    the real reason they didnt use double sabers was that they were deemed too aggressive for a peaceful era, clone wars not withstanding. had nothing to do (directly, at least) with the darkside.
    honestly, if they had thought about it, double sabers were probably the best tool to use for form 3, since a dual saber can cover more area to block with and if used in a spinning motion, were perfect for deflecting melee attacks off to the side. the best example of this is actually a sith; Darth Zannah, apprentice to Darth Bane. she was almost (keyword there) fully defensive in a Duel, preferring to tire out an enemy to give her a chance to use her force powers to finish them.

    I also think it's because it kind of goes against what the Jedi are all about. The Jedi are meant to be peace keepers, so they carry with them just a basic lightsaber because they don't want to have to rely on brute force or combat. It's like if someone claimed to be a medic in a battalion of soldiers, and carried a pistol on them for self defense just in case, versus claiming to be a medic and also carrying a rocket launcher. Just seems kinda counter-intuitive in my opinion.

    @chopper3940 Год назад

    Krell was able to develop his own form of lightsaber wielding from the other four swordsmanships: Form VII Ju Yo "Fierce Form" and Form VI Niman "Form of Confidence", the Jar-Kai style, and the double-bladed sword style.
    Just the same form plays a huge role. The form borders on rage, that is, on dark power, because. uses emotions to power up his attacks, and this form actually violates the Jedi Code of "No Emotions, Only Peace".
    The developed form of lightsaber wielding was ideally suited to Krell's physiology, allowing the use of two double-bladed swords at once, enhancing the strengths and covering the weaknesses of forms VII and VI through a second pair of hands, physical and strength capabilities.

  • @demi-femme4821

    More than this, the classic single blade is symbolic. There's a comic where Obi-Wan and Anakin are sparring and Anakin asks why they use Lightsabers instead of Lightspears or Kyber-powered Blasters. Obi-Wan explains that this is a common question, and Obi-Wan himself had the idea for two Shoto Lightsabers on chains like the Blades of Chaos from God of War as a Padawan.
    The reason the Jedi stuck with the single lightsaber is because it was difficult to use effectively and a Jedi had to be very intentional about killing with it. To quote him directly, the Lightsaber is a reminder to the galaxy that "while we could do more, we very purposefully do not."
    This is why the single Lightsaber is the most common among the Jedi, and why those who use variants like the Saberstaff are seen as closer to the Dark Side for abandoning this idea.

    Blade Master Kas'im in thr Darth Bane novels brought up a good point. A double bladed lightsaber limits its user and the types of strikes and parries it can perform aince you dont want to chop yourself in half with the second blade. Adding to that is that if your opponent knows where one blade is they immediately know where the other is at all times, unlike dual wielding with jar'kai.
    It was simply more convenient to just use a single blade.

    I think it's because it defeated the purpose of the Jedi in general. Most Jedi weren't militant or warlike, they were diplomats and scholars who fought if necessary. A single lightsaber was the most concealable option, and the one that looked less threatening. In short, it's likely the Jedi believe they *shouldn't* need more than a single lightsaber to fulfill their duties, but they wouldn't stop a practitioner from pursuing other types of combat styles.
    An example of this is Ahsoka, who was definitely a more "bred for war" type of Jedi, since her entire career was pretty much the Clone Wars, and this is better exemplified by how The Old Republic era had a much more open war-like scenario, and you even saw Jedi wearing heavy armor more regularly, as well as all types of lightsabers including dual sabers, saberstaves and lightsaber pikes.

    The jedi looked upon the lightsaber as a sort of cop badge. Someone would see a single glowing green or blue blade, and know they are either safe, or were gonna lose the fight. Many would just give up.
    Anikan once posed this question to obiwan in a comic, obi saying Jedi DID experiment with different designs, now stored in the library, but ultimately decided the classic single blade was tradition and too bound to the image of a jedi.
