What a great band they were. Wrote some timeless pop songs full of hooks, which while quite neat and compact were played by a group of top musos with a degree of expertise and complexity.

I used to see The Sports at Martini's out Carlton, Melbourne. Sports, Jo Jo Zep And The Falcons, Highrise Bombers (with Paul Kelly), Bleeding Hearts, Skyhooks, Captain Matchbox, the list goes on.. All art school pubrockers... This song wasn't quite The Sports I liked from earlier on.. The girl with the glasses and brown coat was killed in a car crash a couple of years after this clip was shot.

It sound like it was quite the scene. Art school music scenes are a staple of rock and roll.

There was a lot going on in those days. Stiletto's ''Goodbye Johnny - Live at Martinis1978'' captures one of the good band playing at Martinis out in Carlton. When I hear early Sports or Jo Jo Zep I get the taste of pancake because that's what I was living on in the 70's. I would go from Monday to Friday not eating, then spend the little money I had on Pancakes, drugs and bands... great times.. I'm amazed I survived it
