@zoltanperei4789 i doubt they would do that, they pretty much refuse to acknowledge rid2001 hot shot is a thing, and the hot shot we normally see is the definitive hot shot, if they brought that rid2001 design back that would most likely make it a new character
I would just need actual hot wheel type mini playsets, an autobot base, a decepticon base and one or two medium/large sized neutral type bases that showcase cybertronian life, and if it had modular highways like Omega great. Diorama me up, I'll do the light modding, I'll do them up like the grid in Tron with a rpi system that plays music. I'd buy a bunch but this is like Joe, I want vehicles for my vehicles. Heck, make my spy changers gobot power suits like Courageous so I can combine them. Let's go all sorts of crazy with this idea.
Larger, but still relatively simple/robust figures that are also capable of interacting with them. Perfect place for a car carrier like Magnus, or an Optimus that can store them in his trailer, or even something like a Grandus that opens up into a playset.
It'd be cool if the axles could detach and form weapons or something. Then they could have the necessary axle but still have separate legs for better articulation.
I think that they should be deluxe size cars. That's the scale in the show. The toys were just "legend" scale for that time. They made OP and UM in the smaller scale, and then used the spychanger molds for G1 characters.
Ironhide wouldn't be a problem if the Sideswipe engineering is used. Remember, the Sideswipe mould has a concave chest that the car hood fills out. And if the car door kibble is made to be part of the arms then there's even moor room for the truck hood chest to sink into.
My idea is for Spy changers is Small-deluxe sized cars, who are simpler and a little less dense than an actual small deluxe. As for character's like Ironhide, just add maybe an Engine block to the truck (inaccurate, i know) that acts as a Peg/port, because the top layer of the chest can come off to for. A Shield, maybe? Not like cliffjumper, cause its not required, but still optional.
I feel like we don't need any articulation update if we just keep the axel as the gimmick. That could be enough for a kids line like One Step Changers. But if we get them articulated they should end up bigger than they used to be.
I know you're not a hot wheels guy (or you would have had more to say about the Bumblebee HW), but for those of us interested in both HW and TF, I'd WANT new spychangers to keep the 'works on hot wheels track' aspect of the toy. That was the whole point in them.
This could be a fun way to include the "min-spy" toys from G1. Do a sort of character blind bag where you don't know if it's an Autobot or Decepticon until you rub the sign.
I say do an entire budget “Legends” line that only consists of Cores, Deluxes and Voyagers. Not only does it make everything a wee bit cheaper, but it would guarantee we get the Spy Changers and all their repaints.
I adore the Titanium 2 pack of Megatron and Optimus Prime. It's a beautiful package, honestly. The Toys R Us Prowl and Grimlock are also both stunning. Target Thrust and Hotspot, also... And Sunstorm. Screw it. I like Titanium. 😅
Modern Transformers sometimes have pinned wheels, so articulation is not a barrier to smooth rolling via pinned wheels even of they don't use a single axle. I would argue that if they were to bring back Spychangers, the one thing they MUST have is all pinned wheels.
i'd make them small deluxes akin to the current crop of minibots. maybe slightly smaller. but include with each one is a small piece of racetrack that can also double as a riot shield or display stand. the titan for that year's worth of product? Navitas, the Colony Titan for Velocitron. make it's base mode a simple racetrack that can be upgraded and enhanced with the tracks sold with the Spychangers. added bonus, each Spychanger has 4-5 repaints cooked in via G2 Gobots and Universe repaints.
RID spy changer mirage was the first transformer toy i got as child. It was a dollar at dollar tree and was (and still is) cooler than the hotwheels car next to it!
I mean we sort of could do them as hot wheels car though. Hasbro has been working with Hot Wheels for Hot Wheels Transformers. Lease the IP to Hot Wheels, and allow work in co-op with Hot Wheels to do Transformable Hot Wheels and call them spy changers
The only ways I could see spy changers coming back are either in the way you mentioned in this video, or as non-transforming hot wheels collaboratives.
How is the chest gimmick thing going to work with Mirage? That F1 racer design doesn't give him the space like the others have. There isn't much of a hood there. Honestly I'd just make it weapon storage cause the original figures just had guns that you really can't store anywhere when they're in vehicle mode and I don't think just adding a spot for their guns to store would require as much space as a spring loaded gimmick. So even Mirage's smaller chest should give him just enough space to at least put his gun in there.
If the did this I would hope some of them would be deceptacons like lockdown or knock out and break down or runabout and runamuck. I think one of the problems with every wave of toys is their are too many autobots and not enough deceptacons.
I don't necessarily like the idea of adding new arbitrary gimmicks to all these characters. However, if they are part of a bridge line that is of at least as decent quality as the better Warrior class figures we've had for the last few years, then I would be on board as long as the price is right. Not more than 20$ per figure. 18$ would be better. 15$ would be best.
So the solution to making modern Spychangers and Throttlebots...is to not make Spychangers and Throttlebots simply because the show screwed up the Spychanger scale? All you're doing is putting the characters in new bodies minus the gimmick that was the point of the teams. It feels like leaving a cool feature out in the cold just to keep the characters and give them alternate gimmicks that already exist in other toys.
@@skybytebytes The Spychanger toys are somewhere between Micromaster and Mini-Car, and that's not the scale you see in the show. That's what I was referring to. I'm not saying TJ is wrong, because it's his opinion, just that I have a different perspective on what I'd want Spychangers to be.
8:10 you’d be surprised how consistent the scale in car robots is, the spychangers are fairly consistent throughout the series
I have 26 spy changers and would buy more repaint/remolds of them. I just love the little guys.
RiD 2001 introduced Hot Shot to the franchise, he was the leader of the Spychangers
Yeah, I heard about that, and I like that both have a chance at leadership, in their series.
Legacy Hot Shot with Spychanger HS's colors.
@zoltanperei4789 i doubt they would do that, they pretty much refuse to acknowledge rid2001 hot shot is a thing, and the hot shot we normally see is the definitive hot shot, if they brought that rid2001 design back that would most likely make it a new character

I have 46 spychangers/G2 gobots and I love them but man some of those designs would translate so well into modern figures
by this point we can just retool past deluxes like Combiner Wars
I think that they should be deluxe size cars. That's the scale in the show. The toys were just "legend" scale for that time. They made OP and UM in the smaller scale, and then used the spychanger molds for G1 characters.
I like your ideas for how they could do them today, thanks for covering this TJ
If the Spychangers get updates, one can only hope Team Bullet Train, the Build Team, and the Predacon trio would follow
Ironhide wouldn't be a problem if the Sideswipe engineering is used.
Remember, the Sideswipe mould has a concave chest that the car hood fills out.
And if the car door kibble is made to be part of the arms then there's even moor room for the truck hood chest to sink into.
I love when TJ comes up with toy ideas
Looks like we both had spychangers on the mind recently!

You absolutely cooked on this one
Making them more playable
Smart

New Throttlebots? I'm in!

If you wanted more Decepticons in the line... You could always try throwing in Decepticon Micromasters. That might work.

I had some RiD figures as a kid, but never any Spy Changers. Don't even think I saw them on store shelves.
They warmed hard where I lived I saw them on shelves well into Energon
I just realized why siege Megatron is a “tired” mold. That being said, I still want at least one more in my collection.
i'd make them small deluxes akin to the current crop of minibots. maybe slightly smaller. but include with each one is a small piece of racetrack that can also double as a riot shield or display stand.

Man, I really wanna see a modern X Car
RID spy changer mirage was the first transformer toy i got as child. It was a dollar at dollar tree and was (and still is) cooler than the hotwheels car next to it!
There will be W.A.R.S. and rumors of W.A.R.S.
I mean we sort of could do them as hot wheels car though. Hasbro has been working with Hot Wheels for Hot Wheels Transformers. Lease the IP to Hot Wheels, and allow work in co-op with Hot Wheels to do Transformable Hot Wheels and call them spy changers
Tbh, I want deluxes that all transform the way they did in the show with the siren like arm transformation
TJ the slides clip into the facecam
Someday, you'll believe
I though modern Spychangers would be Core class, but I don't mind small deluxe class.
I must prefer the sideswipe idea I don’t want gimmicks
Im guessing Spychanger Ironhide would probably be an extreme earthrise Hoist retool as that is probably the best option for the character
Spychangers Ironhide was my first Transformer, it'd be amazing if they got new figures.
If they made a modern version of daytonus they could make him a decepticon and make him a stand in for dragstrip. Thats what i would do.
I would prioritize simple transformations, good proportions and paint apps over articulation, gimmicks, and scale.
How about a retool of Hardtop? Nice size for entry level. Reverse the elbows and you have a hood chest. And door kibble on the arms.
I can't believe you said "Just DO IT" like that without telling them to make their dreams come true 😢
I would want the designs in deluxe scale or up myself , especially Ironhide
The only ways I could see spy changers coming back are either in the way you mentioned in this video, or as non-transforming hot wheels collaboratives.
i bought gold bug years ago. i still have him today.
How is the chest gimmick thing going to work with Mirage? That F1 racer design doesn't give him the space like the others have. There isn't much of a hood there. I just thought that ironhide would work with trail breakers mold if you retool the back pack
I used to call them transformer Hot wheels.
I hope the cyberverse line (dotm and prime) geets a return
If the did this I would hope some of them would be deceptacons like lockdown or knock out and break down or runabout and runamuck. I think one of the problems with every wave of toys is their are too many autobots and not enough deceptacons.

The show didn’t ruin anything scale wise go watch it
