    Looks great. You mean to tell me that it doesn't add at least 150hp? I'm thinking of adding one to the Miata, mostly for the sound.

      Thats the main reason I added it. The more mainstream well known products from K&N, AEM and others aren't much different but are around £250 - £300!!! it does look good for the money and the alloy pipe is worth that alone!

    This open port Air Filter set up is a suicide for MRS Spyder.
    The entire engine compartment is extremely hot in there. Imagine that you have exhaust intake manifold, exhaust muffler as well as the engine block all sitting in the same compartment contributing MORE heat.
    Thus the air filter practically will suck up all the HEAT into the engine. Do you think the engine will be happy with tonnes of heat going in ?
    Good luck! 😆

    Nice work Mark. I installed a HKS kit on mine with the filter in a similar position and the intake temps went up by about 20c. I think it's because of the positioning next to the exhaust. Hot air cant be good for the engine and probably results in loss of power more than anything else. I ended up selling my kit and putting a K&N panel filter in. I am planning to turbo soon so it dont really matter anyway ;)

      Thanks buddy.Yeah the air won't be so dense so there may be a little amount of power loss but I've monitored the intake temps and I'm. Looking at about 12c increase but this may change when I change the manifold. The explosive environment of the combustion chamber probably doesn't care about warmer air. I have kept all the stock kit and may put back in in the future but the extra noise is fun for now :) 👍

    You can have 3 types of sound for the Toyota MR-S :
    1) deep sound
    2) v-tec sound
    3) 4 throttles body sound
    1) induction kit
    2) cai behind batterie + alu airbox + 83mm hose to side vent
    3) cai behind batterie + alu airbox linked + 63mm hose to side vent
    1) pros > aesthetic // cons > gaz pedal response, less power, maybe CEL light
    2) pros > colder air temp, gaz pedal response // cons > none (the perfect balance)
    3) pros > colder air temp, gaz pedal response, crazy sound // cons > less power after 6000rpms (restrictive hose)
    *** Airbox with 80mm output don't limit the engine in air. BMC CDA carbon (ref : CDASP-09) has similar dimension than PPE airbox "first version" and will fit behind batterie.
    Here the video of the 1st and 2nd sounds : ruclips.net/video/HqtYpF7_32A/видео.html
    And the 3rd sound : ruclips.net/video/5KeFtLL9MbY/видео.html
    *** My actual setup (PPE cai first version) : ruclips.net/video/Oihg7sW8fYA/видео.html

    Can you put a vid up of how it sounds with the new filter, do you get the induction roar??

    I purchased a Pipercross performance panel filter (washable reusable, re oilable, claims to last upto 20k miles between cleans)which simply replaces the OEM air filter, fits into stock airbox, cheaper than the k&N brand. After going from stock air filter to this high flow performance filter, it definetely feels like more response in all the range but especially more power above 5k accelerating. I had a blast on the b roads after fitting it, and i swear it felt ia bit more nippy.. I do have sports manifold and sports cat though
    can be purchased off ebay £31 brand new (pipercross pp1290)
    I can proper hear the induction hissing sound aswel, i think it sounds really cool!

      Brilliant.... I did think about a piper cross panel! 😀

    Great video! A couple of questions if you don't mind. I am thinking of doing this mod to my Roadster. Is this kit still available? What is the purpose of the 'blanked-off' pipe at the back? If the kit is no longer available I am planning to go the DIY route. Best wishes! Graham. 👍👍

      @DadDiaries  4 года назад +1

      No worries 🙂I haven't seen the kits recently but then I haven't really been looking. They pop up from time to time on eBay. The small pipe access off to the side I think relates to a another Toyota (possibly a corolla) that has a breather attach there...it's not needed on the MR2. If you do go the DIY route consider putting the filter behind the battery where it won't pickup as much warm air. Having said that Ive had zero issues since fitting :) thanks for your comment 👍

    I got the AEM cai for 90USD on Amazon and honestly it was worth it for the sound alone and the joy of installing it

      Excellent. I wanted to get an AEM cold air intake but in the uk they were approaching 500USD!

    Are you going to put the manifold you bought a while back on the car?

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  5 лет назад

      I sure am.... possibly the week after bank holiday weekend at the end of May... with the exhaust I have as well hopefully.

  • @heilong79

    Where did you get the rocker cover clips? mine are missing, also your engine coolant reservoir bottle is over filled.

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  5 лет назад +1

      Ha very observant of you! Yeah I filled it too level and it seems to have a mind of its own. Operating it goes lower then full and it's all over the place sometimes... others have reported the same but I have no issues. Perhaps I should take some out!
      So the cover bolts are password jdm allen bolts with an anodised red cup to take the head. I ordered the press fit clips from Toyota but never used them as they were a bit boring. PM on insta or something and I'll mail them two you if you want them. I ight even have a couple of the password JDM bolt things as well you can have...let me know :)

      @@DadDiaries I will do thanks, when the car cools down usually coolant will move back into the bottle and when it gets hot again it is suck into the coolant system, It should be fine.

    Looking forward to hearing the sound comparison video. £30 seems very good value for that, was it listed as an MR2 item or is it universal? Cheers

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  5 лет назад

      It was listed as MR2 specific. Yeah that's why I didn't just to do a quick sound test. I have a Tascam sound recorder so I'm making a mount for it and will get a sound test video up as soon as I can 👍
