And I was searching for this song for weeks and weeks - I had it in my memory, but thought it was 50s or 60s, so I was just googling for, like, "incredibly high-pitched falsetto" and the like. Then suddenly I came across it again, and then I read up about it. The band was lucky to get on Top of the Pops (TOTP) - someone else had to cancel, so they were called upon to fill that spot. Then they had a nice performance, with play-back and lip-syncing, and became an overnight sensation and a UK #1 - one of the biggest singles of 1974 :) Showaddywaddy had been offered the same composition first, but turned it down?! Crazy... So Rubettes took it and Paul Da Vinci was there, to lay down the vocals, but between the recording and the release, he had committed somewhere else, and could not perform with the band..

Sadly this is the last show with The Rubettes as we know them. 3 versions of this group will be doing the rounds now which is a bit ridiculous when you think about it. Keep on rockin' Alan. You'll be fine now Mark's back.
Why the split between Alan and the rest of the band? Never thought I'd see Alan and John working separately especially as they worked together before the Rubettes were formed.
The others wanted to do new music while Alan wanted to stay true to his roots and stick with the old stuff the fans know and love. John does a lot of his Hare Krishna stuff mostly.
so nice that they so performing together. not anymore john mick etc. fighting in high court in england i believe about the name of the band merchandising money this is not the first time in the seventies with tony thorpe in the ninetees with bill hurd. always is alan involved but i love the group.and alan etc are great. but i find it verry sad. i wish everyone well. that alan loves performing etc. i do believe that. verry good.
