I used this design for 2020 Christmas cards. But I had no 12 inch paper. So I used 11 1/2 I had. I folded cut piece in half, then i fold left edge at 1 inch, approximately. Then I matched two folds to create the third. I saved scrap piece for stamping and illustrations so it would match card base. Love this fold.

I do exactly as you do with your plates. I found there is much less warping if I use one for the bottom and a different one always for the top and don’t interchange.
Love this card! I get fixated on the craziest things though.... I loved that panel you showed at the beginning with the designer paper and the coordinating (circles) colors. Did you make that? Did you do one for all the designer papers?
