Archery can be approched as an art or a science. From the head or the heart. It can bring you satisfaction or joy. The less you think about the shot the more joyful the experience. Being able to consistently hit a 6 inch target at all distances and angles at 20 yards or less by just focusing on the mark, without any thought, is the archery our ancestors practiced to survive. For me, this is what makes traditional archery a joy. It's not the bow and the arrow, it's you and the mark.
I'm a 72 year old novice. I'm watching the videos going to the range and having a great time. I bought a nice expensive bow. After mild ribbing that I can't do my bow justice with my beginner skills. Well I was a welder for 40 years and appreciate good tools. I can afford to buy quality . Just like you shoot and enjoy your bargain bow,I'll get a thrill shooting my Black Wolf. If and when I hit the X it's a bonus.
Greg!!.. You hit the nail on the head.. totally agree with you, the mind can be your worst enemy I find my best days shooting is when I don't think about it and just shoot..
Thank you for another great video Greg. I am just in the process of practicing with a 300 round target. It does show weather you improve or not by score. I have found also that instinctive is best for me ,shooting trad 3 yrs now. I average in the low 220 s but if i keep my concentration i can get more 5 s. My release is my big thing to work on..Our club has shut everything down now so i will have to set something up at home.
What you are saying is so true. I seem to always mess up my shots when I think about what I am suppose to be doing (back pressure, don't grip the bow, proper release and such). Once I think too much the shot is off. And I start to think when my mind nags at me that something does not feel right. The center shots are always those when I didn't think about anything but the target.
Great video as usual. Every issue you covered, I experienced as well…and as you point out, when it doesn’t feel right, may as well let off and restart the cycle. Can never remember ever saving the shot, remember having many bad shots …when the cycle is correct, it just flows and becomes and unconscious process. Trad archery for myself is all about relaxation, discipline and having fun, it’s satisfying to shoot really well and laugh about those times or shots when I don’t and be like “where did that come from”😂 I do enjoy all levels of archery games and have even considered possibly getting a “Barebow”, however even these Barebows, seem too gadgety as you alluded…just variables in the equipment to be added to those inherent to oneself. I do follow Jake Kaminski a well as you and Arne Moe…informative, inspiring and you keeping it real, repeatable and fun.
Everything you've said is correct ,and I don't think about my shot because I've learned to focus on a very small spot and I've gotten very good for me ,I'm not a 300- 900 man and don't want to be ,I enjoy shooting and hunting game , thanks for another great video
Hi Greg ! Good video, so true. I shoot outdoors at a tennis ball dangling by a string . I dont hit it often but noticed that I do hit it more when I’m warming up, not thinking about my form, I’m just focusing on the ball or as Hutchie 2112 says , when I really mean it. Take care :)
Amazing video as always Greg I wasn't able to really put my mind where it belonged while shooting today but that didn't stop me from sharing the results And it's a good way to learn how to edit videos as well ;) Greetings from Germany
Hi Greg. I just wanted to say thankyou. I've always had terrible trouble with my finger grip. My middle finger is horribly inconsistent when letting go. The other fingers are fine, but my middle finger often doesn't release the string until my hand has moved back a bit after release. I've been raising my elbow higher, to get a deep hook on my top finger, but only on the pad of my middle finger. This improved things a lot, but finger pressure varies a little, causing height fluctuations. I saw you hook deep, and although it's the exact opposite of what I'm doing, I tried your suggestion. It makes the linear draw much easier, smoother, and more consistent. Then my release became massively more fluid, and consistent. I'm shooting barebow, and we have a stay at home league, with target faces smaller to scale, for whatever distance we're able to shoot at home. My pb was 204 for ten ends of three arrows. I tried what you said after three practise ends to see how it would work. I shot a new pb of 242. I'm absolutely chuffed to bits. Thankyou so much.
Greg, nice going on your scores. Enjoyed your video and as always hope to see more. One last thing you could of mentioned always have fun and enjoy yourself. You can be serious but be careful you don't take it to far it will get real old quick. Hope all is well with you and yours thank you.
@@TradArchery101 Nice - I just meant that shooting an indoor target at fixed length hits the strength of shooting with sights, whereas the other venues may show strengths of a traditional approach.
Each of your videos, I'm thinking that this guy is out in left field, where is going with this. Then you start bringing it all together, and I learn something. My groups get tighter after every video, THANK YOU.
Does the length of shooting affect arrow spine?, I can hit a 6-8 in group at 15-20 yards with my current arrows which the shop gave me more polar bear with 50lb recurve which is what I asked for. I have a few gr insert, dont remember. Anyway, I move out to 35-40 yrds and I cant barely hit the 2ft x 2ft target.
@@TradArchery101 thank you very much for the reply I will be practicing alot more here. I really hadn't shot very much recently I just know I can hit what I want from 15-20 yrds

With 3 under is not so difficult. Go for long and heavy arrows & high anchor & high nocking point! If you are shooting split finger you will have it challenging. I have achieved it with 34", extremely heavy arrows & low # bow

Golf Tip Traditional XT 600 spine, They are carbon
30# bow is 600 spine all day, right? Why 500’s?
The GT chart shows it. I no longer use 600's with a 30 pound bow, I now shoot 800's with ll my 30 pound bows.

"should shoot 500s" ...... too my knowledge a 30# bow fits with 700 spine arrows up to 35 than switch to 600 up to 42-44 above that shoot 500s
Don't know where you got that from. The charts from Gold Tip, Easton and others all say 500 spine for that 30 pound bow.
