"I can ensure you ladies and gentleman, we are going to continue this fight, because you know why i know that? because i fought that fight." lol.
Bas somehow manages to provide technical, insightful comments throughout while also being randomly hilarious. Really adds to the fights to have the commentary with it.
it's his dutch side
Gotta love Bas's self deprecating humor about his non-existent takedown defense
Diego Augusto I think after he picked up ground game training, he just want to be taken to the ground.
I lost it at the back hair comments 😂
I mean, there wasn't any takedown defense, nearly everytime an opponent attempted on him he fell, but he improved a lot.
Both amazing champions!
True warriors!
Great sportsmanship from Suzuki. Class act.
I swear at some point suzuki was caressing bas ruttens private area
@@horseliver338 nah look closer, he was pushing bas' hands toward his own privates, which bas then continues to caress himself. I thought the same from the first angle then it was obvious after they switched a second later
its painful watching Bas get taken down over and over and over in all these beginning fights. its crazy how much he grew what a legend he became
Love the sportsmanship. Bas was always a good sport, and I've never seen a Japanese fighter behave poorly.
Shinya Aoki comes to mind...
Truly amazing how much sportsmanship they had in those days. Stuff like that is almost absent from modern mma organisations.
Absent ...from the entire US of A for the most part in recent years.
lol
Bas Rutten: Best mix of sportsmanship and brutality!
Bas's comments often brings me an old french saying in mind that'd translate about in "If the young man knew. If the old man could". Pretty interesting in any ways.
Look how young Suzuki was! Just wow! He looks like Katsuyori Shibata.
Suzuki looks so terrifying even till this day when he comes out
Bassssuuuuh uuuuuutten!!
At around 11:27, you can totally tell Minoru was enjoying the fight and probably a little impressed Bas attempted that leg lock.
Wow, the water at the end was such a gentleman's move by Suzuki. He clearly respected you.
Bas, it's great to see these fights because I haven't seen many of them but could you include the dates? I would like to be able to see how much time there was between fights. :)
just look at his wiki page, all the fight times are there
Just Look @ sherdog
Have you heard of Google, you lazy shitbag??
Lain Why do these children think using potty mouth makes them a tough guy. These types have had thier asses handed to them so many times. These are the scared types. The ones to be wary of are the silent ones that have nothing to prove. Loud mouths are predictable.
@@zakhriskin1602 can you learn some respect before you learn it at a bar one night acting up like that
I really enjoy the commentary with the fights. Makes you really enjoy the chess match going on. Sportsmanship ! When Suzuki poured the water on Bas was pure class act.
I really love the epic displays of sportsmanship, especially in this one. You can really tell both fighters have a ton of respect for each other. Not to leave out the superb combat skills, but yeah!
I have just recently become a Bas fan. I like the respect that he has for the opponent and willingness to fairly commentate on what happened, good or bad. He has some culture that is different and very cool.
The way Suzuki stepped out when they announced his name was epic
Bus Rutten was absolutely awesome!
What an amazing gentlemen's fight. I wish the sport was this classy. You two were phenomenally determined and respectful
I mainly know Suzuki as Murder Grandpa (a nickname lovingly bestowed on him by English speaking NJPW fans) torturing the young lions, with that sadistic smile (seriously he is a scary man), but I’ve always heard that while in wrestling he’s that sadistic SOB, behind the scenes with fellow wrestlers and fans on the street he is a surprisingly nice guy. So it’s nice to see when the fight is real, he lets his real class shine through
Definition of sportsmanship and respect, right there. Suzuki gracious in defeat after a close and technical back-and-forth fight where both guys gave it their all. It would be good to see more of this today, and less of people throwing objects at each others' buses...
11:00 The crowd was quiet but they went freaking crazy when you went for that roll into kneebar.
I love Bas's attitude about his career growth.
I watch Suzuki in pro wrestling now. I like him way better in MMA. He portrays a badass now, most don't know he actually IS a badass and very skilled submission wrestler. Laugh all you want at pro wrestling. It gives guys like Suzuki, who retired from actual combat, a way to make at least as much money with half the risk. Many times, they make more, Suzuki is the NJPW Intercontinental champ right now.
Pro wrestling is harder on the body than MMA. There are way more injuries, and general wear and tear on the body from pro wrestling. It's from all the bumps they take in a single match, and the busy schedule they work.
great fight, real sportsmanship - very inspiring, thank you for uploading :)
Thank you Bas for taking the time to do this!
like has been said prior amazing sportsmanship on both parts, I would hate to meet Bas in the ring but would love to in real life such a charismatic and skilled, not to mention powerful individual yet humble with it too. Viva Las Bas !!
I've never seen Minoru Suzuki this young. He's still killing it in NJPW.
Geweldig dit. allemaal wedstrijden van Bas Rutten met zijn eigen commentaar! TOP!!
This is my 3rd time watching this playlist.
Minoru Suzuki seems like a good guy
Yeah, that was a really good gesture by him at the end with the water.
Quentin Stratton Actually he was known as a quite a gym bully, which makes it even more surprising.
KingSygma The character he plays today is just fantastic.
Dragonball4eva More than a character, its a self-parody.
KingSygma
Kaze Ni Nareeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The sportsmanship in all these old fights is refreshing, to say the least.
The sportsmanship at the end of the battles are just unbelievable. I really love these videos! Your the boss Bas
I always wondered about your fights, nice to finally see them all and with comments! Bedankt!
It is strange to watch such a gifted fighter who can't defend takedowns, at all.
thanks much for posting these fights. Your commentary is easy to listen to.
Another great video. Bas, you could have put these all on DVD and made a load of money but instead you put it on here for free!
Thanks
He already did.
He did it already
+Foster McFoster lol the DVD had been out almost 10 years before he put it on youtube ;)
+Foster McFoster shhht dont bring him any idea,s :)
Cant get enough from BASUU RRUUUUUUUUUUUUTHEEEEEEN!
I've been watching pro wrestling for several years and didn't realize what I'd been missing. This is so much more enticing. Thanks, boys. ;-)
This is not pro wrestling, it was hybrid wrestling and catch. Or free style wrestling .focus ob submission, take down and grappling and which the era where many mma legend learn and come from
@@ryzalboyz9511 I didn't say it was. I said this is more enticing....than pro wrestling.
"Squeezing his toes" -your hilarious Bas
I have to admit I'm not very familiar with your work. I was looking for a Minoru Suzuki NJPW clip and went down a rabbit hole, watching this because Mauro Ranallo and John Pollock always put respect on your name. Absolutely incredible.
Fun fact: Mauro and Bas are actually close friends!
Binge watching TF out of these! Omg gold
I wish I had the opportunity to hang out with Bas and watch some of his old fight footage I feel like it would Big therapeutically insightful and hilarious 😂
Bas, one of the greatest fighters
This kinda commentary is why I have watched this fight compilation 4x now 😂
Suzuki-Gun is Ichiban!
Bas's celebration jump kicks are great. I think the best I can manage is a few feet up
DR.Mantis well all you need is your two feet up in the air lol
A cigarette company has their logo in the middle of the ring and there's a big sign hanging that says No Smoking.
Crazy to me how good your submission and grappling got in such a short time.
Bas is a BEAST!
2 legends.. awesome
BasssuuuUUuuu RuuuuUUUUtteeeeeen!
Imagine how intimidating bas is that his enemies dont want to hit you on the ground
Basss Ruuuuuuuuuuuuteeeeeeeen, I love the Asian audience and staff!!! Bas the KING!
Bas! U are timeless u lucky guy !!
Bas is great. Texas here.🧐
BASUUUU, ARRRRROOOOOOTENN!!!
I like this better than UFC
Bas is the best
Pancrase was like Pro Wrestling is Pro Wrestling was actually 100% real. This is exactly what pro wrestling would be like. No top rope dives no crazy set ups for big moves. Just a straight up fight to a finish. Damn i wish i was into this type of stuff back in the day. I missed all of this.
Great fight!
700th like Mr. Rutten
i know you are probably not going to answer
but still
you are awesome Mr. Rutten
Dear Bas,
I wrote you but you still aint callin'..
The irony of having a smoking ad in an athletic compotition.
He faked that eye injury to save his life lol
You reached the top of the learning curve :)
Still Watching in 2019

@@SRV03101954 we're in the 20s now!
Bassieeeeeeee Rutten :)
Another winning video!
Bas Is the Best 💪👏👍
I have seen this fight several times and I don't understand entirely why Suzuki tapped out. He was directly under the ropes and could have escaped the choke, and he was also a wrestler with a great stamina, so it's not probable he was at his limit. The only explanation to me is that the front kick hurted him more than it looks, but I don't know.
He was the founder of the league and booker, and hes still comes from pro wrestling, so i think he did what is best for business and give Rutten the win. Its my only explantation
Watching these fights, you see how horrible American fans really are....or I guess disrespectful. We get drunk and only want blood, no appreciation for fine art of mixed martial arts.
I feel like that comes from Americans coming over and creating this country without any kind of heritage or culture. They just borrow from alot of other cultures instead of creating our own.
Keith Griffin It's so bad now, when a guy is clearly knocked out, they still jump on him and give em like 10 more hammer fist while the guy is out cold. disgraceful.
I thought Bas was Dutch?
Without ground£, does this even qualify as mma.
+megasuperlexa2 That's exactly what he's saying. You don't need to ground and pound someone to be a mixed martial artist. Judo, for example, is the art of AVOIDING strikes.
was really beautiful fight the japanies fighter was very good he hold to the end but bas is champion.
Amazing perfomance by both, only question is why he tapped? He was able to reach the rope.
Does somebody know why Suzuki did not tap out at the end?
he did
eifelitorn sorry, i meant why didn't he touch the rim of the ring, (sorry for the terminology, im new to mma)
Koenentom Don't be sorry, I am not new to MMA and I think Suzuki's reaction was certainly strange here.
Maybe he was just fucking exhausted (like Bas was), its hard to put yourself in the (wrestling) shoes of someone in that situation.
if you look at the first replay at the end you can see Bas motion to his stomach that the front kick is coming to the solar plexis then he throws the kick with Suzuki in the corner... it does indeed look suspicious
3.28....”That is his liver,..yes.”
lucky strike's commercial on the ring :)
Inspiring!
Who better then bas to narrate his own fights
Bas is the best.
That Japanese pronunciation of Bas's name is pretty hilarious.
Newbie here... i would’ve thought there would be more strikes, there was a second in the beginning where Suzuki had Bas on his back and Suzuki was vertical and he went back down to a half guard (maybe?) instead of striking and taking advantage of having his opponent on his back? Pardon my ignorance
Brady Jones Ground strikes were allowed but frowned upon by the fans. The fans thought it was unfair for Bas to strike a grappler on the ground instead of allowing them to work their strengths too and play the submission game. I don't understand it either but that's what Bas said. Apparently it was a gentleman's agreement of sorts between the fighters. Bas being the savage gentleman he is wouldn't ground and pound unless the other fighter did it first, which rarely happened.
Considering Minoru had Bas on his back 80% of this fight yeah it wasn't a heavy strike fight. It was a war of submissions and reversals.
Awesome!!
No smoking sign in the background. Huge Lucky strike ad on the ring...
BASSSSS
The Learning Tree
Who is bassiiinn hutenn.....!!!! Anyone
I know I'm late to the party on this, but why didn't Suzuki use a rope escape there? Why tap outright?
I'm not convinced that many of these fights aren't worked.
What is the meaning of the two "R" painted on each hand?
Double Ruttens maybe?
It's something Bas used to write on his hands to remind him to be relaxed and stay calm. He speaks about it in one of the earlier fight videos. I think it stands for "rustig" in Dutch or something.
It means relax Bas, keep focused
Was nice of him not to grab the rope! He knew you deserved the win so he tapped.
Great guy!
That is the only fight I ever saw stopped for a stingy eye.
The announcer threw up saying his name
I don't understand why Suzuki didn't grab the rope tho. He was right there, his leg was already touching the rope. Bas had a rope break why didn't Minoru do it?
I don't understand the boots thing, nor do I understand why you have to wait for him to hit you before you can hit him.
Striking while on the ground was not forbidden but frowned upon. But if one would decide to strike that would give a green light to the opponant to strike on the ground as well. And I think Suzuki wanted to avoid having to deal with Bas's striking.
So it's within the rules to strike while on the ground but the fighters all have a gentleman's agreement not to do it? I don't get that.
They didn't hit each other while on the ground only a couple of times, probably a gentleman's agreement type thing. Most of the time palm strikes to the face were the norm.
12:26 Minoru gets hit by a car.
You never touched his eye
This is like using joe rogan in the ufc games 😂😂
6:38 😂😂😂
Bas Rutten > Ken Shamrock

Japanese have so much honor
damn i was rooting for Suzuki
