    Love how he gave credit to Allen. He truly made the Skynyrd sound and was just phenomenal. Gary was great, but Allen was the whole package and played with such feel and emotion. My favorite guitarist of all time.

      @@tomacosta85 You nailed it, Tom, and the combination of the two styles worked to perfection, that being said, those that came along afterward, also had to be something special in their own right, and both Steve and Ed were certainly just that, very special, to have "four" guitarists, all immensely talented and gifted, playing in the same band, on the same stage together night after night was truly amazing, and, lastly, but not least, one hell of a good bass player in Leon too...✌

      I always felt Allen Collins was the best guitarist in Lynyrd Skynyrd. There’s just something about his style that set his apart. His story in the end was truly tragic. I love all their guitarists but Allen has always been my personal favorite!

      Thank You for the suggestion, we had moved almost a 1/4 mile from the music, and with all the trucks running around with open headers, this was the best location we could find at the moment, with over 2500 people and 800 Mud Boggers, this was about as quiet as it got.

    • @jaxflfreebird
      @jaxflfreebird 10 лет назад +1

      BeatInternational I don't want to offend you, so I hope you don't take it that way. But I had just tried to look at a video of Gene Odom as he sketched out the Skynyrd plane, a seating chart of sorts, on a paper box. I didn't even try to figure that out. I figure Ronnie, Steve, Dean and Cassie were more to the front of the plane where most of the people got killed. Then I saw this other video where "fans" of Ronnie and Skynyrd basically imposed themselves upon the elderly Van Zants, Mama and Lacy Van Zant, and those people scoured the inside of their house with the camera, almost ignoring Lacy as he tried to tell them how he could have bought up a neighborhood to move into. I was way more interested in Lacy's story. As interesting as some of the photos and Skynyrd awards and things were, I just thought those people were very rude. Anyway, Gene Odom's newest book was great. I also bought and read his original book. Gene certainly knows what he's talking about. He lived through the crash. Thanks for the upload and I'll try to check it out again. Take care.

    • @joleneloveland2942
      @joleneloveland2942 5 лет назад +2

      It was the trip to get the coke and back that set the fuel on their plane short. A lack of that knowledge for those involved in operating that plane, proved to be deadly. Bad communications, unfortunately. But it still does not explain the sputtering prop. engine with flames shooting out, unless it was always set on "auto rich" from the get go. I suppose that could cause it to shoot flames, but i think that would be more akin to like flooding a car engine, spark plugs wet, will die out and not start again. But all that aside, no fuel, no fly.

    • @joleneloveland2942
      @joleneloveland2942 5 лет назад +4

      Good question! But do not be too hasty to blame pilot. In this type of thing, when Feds are done investigating planes for mechanical issues, if none are found, by default the cause ALWAYS is automatically attributed to "pilot error". That is just the procedure of the NTSB. Now, if nobody told the bands pilot on Oct. 20th that a prior trip had occurred, why would he have reason to believe there was any less than 900 gallons of fuel left on that plane? He wouldn't, which explains where some of that fuel they needed went! And know what? If so, the pilot made no error, a person who should have let the pilot know made the error!! And the pilot will still be faulted because that's how the NTSB does it's business.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd has long lived on musically, since that tragic plane crush in October 20, 1977.
    Thus far, Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to matter in the world of innovative legacy music. There has been hundred of documentaries and interviews of this legendary band, up to the faithful plane crush, which took one of the greatest singers, songwriters, composers and talented musicians of Southern Rock.
    Lynyrd Skynyrd appealed across the board to millions of rock fans who appreciate true musical genius. There are no substitutes for the departed Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins (one of the greatest guitar players, so much talent, he is credited for the uniqueness musical distinguished sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd) , Billy Powell is one of the greatest classic piano players. Ronnie, Allen, Gary Rossington were such talented, composers, lyricists, of what true unaltered music is consider genius talents, who leave a legacy for the ages.
    Lynyrd Skynyrd WAS, IS and WILL continue to be ONE of a kind rock band. The tribute bands and versions of Lynyrd Skynyrd are just that versions, as each musician of the original band gelled together to form the Lynyrd Skynyrd fusion hard to duplicate into the future.
    Remember prior to the plane crush, ( was a young teen then, loved rock in general, southern rock definitely) went and got in line to buy the Street Survivor ALBUM at the local Tower Record and Tapes warehouse on its release date 10/17/1977. The cover of the albums was the photograph of the band with the flames in the background.
    When the news first was released here in Southern California, about the crush, it did not clearly specify who had survived. It was a shock, so painful, the fans inundated radio stations wanting to find out who were the survivors. It was later on that it was announced the victims, Ronnie Van Zant did not survive.
    Suppose new regenerations adapt to fads, musical nuances, machine enhanced music, prefabricated, commercialized music lyrics, empty in content or meaning, mindless, or degrading just to make a quick buck and noise.
    Nothing comes close to the original classic rock ‘n’ roll music showcasing raw talent, all human composed, giving life to the instruments and driving the life source of those instruments to create music, lyrics that spoke to the heart and mind, which encapsulated personal memories that occurred around those songs played out in the radio, records, discs., etc. Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of those unforgettable bands, great classical music lives on for future generations and their music is totally relevant today.

      The mic was pinned too close to the face, or volume up too loud, due to noisy background. It was the best they could do under the circumstances, im sure.

      Jolene Loveland ok so while Gene is talking we are hearing him heavily breathe at the same time? No, that’s the person filming’s breathing. When you’re holding a camcorder you don’t have to have a mic on for it to pick up your breathing.

      @@tassymccormick we're talking old camcorders so yeah it probably was the guy holding the camcorder, but he had the volume up because of all the noise.
