@@whatcouldgowrong7914 there was a single victim assigned to these ;-) the rest learned te hard way , mostly by trying to use current limiting lightbulbs "to prevent damage while turniing them on the first time"

@@cassettedeck-walkman-repair Good to know what I researched was accurate about not using current limiting

    Hi,
This one wants to live again a happy life....
As you see how beaten up it is now, it still works... 🤩
And it screams: help me, please
Therefore it deserves some true and complete care.
    So : do it....
Back in the late 90s I was given a heavily used and beaten up crest audio 8001...
Half of its power Ts had been somewhere else.... But first test on a variac was still promising.
So I accepted the challenge, and months of cleaning full dis/reassembling/rebuilding later it performed like new.
And since then I have a pretty powerful workhorse which can do 1.8kW bridged into a two ohm load continuous, if needed.
    Cheers.

Sweet channel mate! You should definitely try and restore this. Very special piece of audio gear in my opinion, looks pretty cool as well.

who would not want to see its restoration?
It is unique, and the more crazy work it needs, the better for the viewers :)
I think you need to learn about youtube and your viewers, haha :)

It's a cool amplifier to have in repaired/working state, but I'm not sure I'd rebuild it completely if it was mine. I have an Adcom gfa-1 sitting on a shelf that could use a rebuild and I haven't bothered with it yet, lol.

It's always tricky to know what to do in these situations, will it ever be reliable, is it practical to restore it back to original, is it better to rebuild it with modern components to make it better than it was originally, how much work are you willing to put into it and would anyone appreciate everything you have done or will it just get people saying 'you've ruined it' ?
Basically it is a curiosity at best unless it is fully rebuilt and even then could it be used as a daily driver ? It has more limitations than possibilities unless you redesign and rebuild it but in reality you are just putting a new amp in an old case.

Must be a pain in the arse to work on as xraytonyb did a video on one and had issues repairing it.

It’s annoying but in some ways easier to work on also once it’s laid out, a very odd design. Definitely a hot box though
