Bimber Canada Single cask (ex-bourbon). I got the Australian Bimber single cask (ex-bourbon) from the same series when I was in Sydney for work. The Canadian one just slightly edged it out but both beautiful bottles as always from Bimber. Was surprised you didn’t mention them at all honestly.
I love how we have so much variety in whiskeys from around the world! So far here across the pond I've loved 78 Degrees whiskey from South Australia and Archie Rose Single Malt from Sydney
Awesome video as always and, for a change as someone deep into scotch-centric whisky tube, it's one I'm coming away from with a whole list of distilleries/bottles to look out for (e.g. Cotswolds, which I really have to look into finally). Thanks for that mate! As for my favorite non-scotch this year it's probably a heavily peated cask strength 6yo ex-Oloroso Millstone. Really funky, eccentric stuff but very drinkable at the same time. And amazing value here in Germany too.
2:04 received mine in the mail this week and it now hangs in my lounge. It looks awesome, and I’m happy I bought one more to gift for Christmas. As for my favorite whisky, that would be the Tobermory 28yo from Murray McDavid. Absolutely stunning, complex, fruity great nose ans very long aftertaste.
My pick is definitely the Pokeno Prohibition Porter. A good whisky integrated with my favourite style of beer. Thank you for putting me on to that one. Second place is 1919's Goleta, (another one I have you to thank for putting me on to). I have the Cotswold's Reserve which is really good, (I have Jeff Whisky to thank for putting me on to that one), but the peated one sounds good too. Also have the Nikka Yoichi and Miyagikyo, both good but I prefer the Yoichi. Indri Dru was my world whisky pick for last year. Cheers! 🥃
Interesting - Penderyn also make their peated whisky that way - it looks like they had the same master distiller when starting up, so makes sense. My parents live not too far from the Cotswolds distillery, so I'll have to pop over for a visit at some point.
Great selection Phil, but yeah, that Morris Muscat Barrels is great. We actually have others down the same rabbit hole that are even better, but its all single barrel/small batch stuff. I also bought more Aus ( & even NZ) whiskies this year than ever before too. I'd love the Falcon but couldnt get it & had to settle for their Full flight ( havent tried yet). I even bought the Scapegrace Ephemeral & Thomson Manuka Full Noise for my xmas pressie from my wife lol. Looking forward to them all !
Phil! You are the man, absolutely love your channel the way you carry yourself in your vids. New years request from a dedicated fan for the channel….. can you please clean those window’s behind the bottle you use as a clip transition 😂😂😂
Really glad to see that top choice. Favourite distillery of mine. And really happy to see you visited the distillery. Been there 4 times, and will keep going back.
Great video!! Nice to see our Knob 9 in there for the bourbon fans. Didn’t go wrong if looking for a quintessential bourbon. I’m researching the Cotswold now!! And I need a flavor tree! 🌳
Great video, thanks for sharing! My favorite „world whisky“ this year has been the Mackmyra DNA small batch from Sweden. A great composition, sweetness, vanilla, chocolate, citrus, intense (small 30 l casks) and long lasting on the palate.. 😀
Nice video. Lots of additional options that I wouldn't have considered before. I assume that in Britain single malt scotch is more affordable than elsewhere in the world, does this mean that these international whiskies are more competitive elsewhere in the world in comparison to scotch than in the UK?
Have you ever tried Finnish whiskey? I can't decide between Kyrö Rye (a very interesting Finnish take on Rye - it smells just like freshly baked rye bread, yummy!) and Nikka From the Barrel (old classic but tried it again after many years and my goodness is it fantastic) for my world whiskey of the year.
Have you tried the 8 wired whisky? It’s by one of my favourite NZ breweries and bottled at cask strength - I am being gifted one for Xmas to try myself.
What a year Phil! I never got the fascination with Indri. I tried both the world version and the lower abv Indian market version both for me feel like a basic Scotch whisky rather than something 'different'. The Falcon is a tasty whisky but oh so expensive. Have you tried their single malt Vodka, The Reid? That was such a trip in a delicious way but I don't know if I would call it a vodka in a blind. I'm not surprised at your Number 1, it is a delicious, well balanced and moreish whisky. Cheers!
I’m Canadian and live near the Macaloney’s distillery. Its an amazing small distillery with incredible staff that source some of the best casks for maturing whisky in Canada. Id say they are my favourite Canadian distillery with Shelter Point a close second. Fun fact, they use to be called Macaloney’s Caledonian but got sued by the Scotch Whisky association for having too “Scottish” of a distillery name. If you can, try to find a cask strength version from Macaloneys as they are just amazing!
Got a couple of tasters delivered this week had the Thompson manuka smoke what a surprise that was and also the Cotswolds bourbon cask was a winner aswell
Great video Phil and I've learnt a lot today! Some wonderful whiskys to look out for. 🙌🏾 I'm from England and usually drink scotch. My favourite non scotch would be the redbreast 12 year old cask strength. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎅🎄🥃
My world WOTY is Fuji-Sanroku from Kirin. the Nose is elegant and gentle bourbon, the first half also bourbon-ish, but in the end you will find it a very delicate and well structured Japanese style world Whisky
Thanks for your review Phil! I'm still undecided about which ones to pick :( Note aside, I made my wife like Cardhu 12yo and brought her to Scotland, now she loves whisky and sponsors the distillery tours 😂. So far she is asking for more different types of whiskies and Cardhu is no longer her favorite. So, there it goes, she got hooked and currently she is studying for her Certificate in Scotch Whisky by the EWA 🥃
I’ve just made my top 10 whiskies of 2024 video (in German though) and it’s a lot of world whiskies on there, more then scotch actually which speaks for world whisky. My no one this year though was still a scotch. The Port Charlotte PMC. If I had to pick a world whisky no 1 - I’d had to decide between the Yoichi 10 year old and the Indri DRU. I’d probably pick the Indri due to its better value for money ratio.
top 3 me was Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique Single Malt 56,3 % from Taiwan, Kavalan is a name i heard about many years just was not that interested but had it during a tasting and i was like wow i need a bottle of this. on runner up after a lengthy debate came Bivrost Yggdrasil Single Malt Whisky 46% vol from Norway, one i been trying to get hold on for some years, its a low production Distillery in Norway i call it the Springbank of Scandinavia but they have a lot of experimental casks and everything from Peated to the most irish tasting fruit bombs.and without any doubt my nr 1 was this year Suntory Hibiki 21 year old Blended whisky 43%, i got to try it trough an mate of mine, i have had the orginal Hibiki blend for years and it was always a nice change of scenery from the rugged Scottish shores to something velvety, soft, nuances, peaceful. the 21 is all that and more, would i pay the price of a full bottle never ever. was it still the best dram outside Scotland, 100% i would maybe look at the price if i was in Japan to take one home.
No Penderyn whiskey. They have been smashing it for the past few years, and they picked up a few more awards at the New York World Spirits Competition 2024. There are plenty of options to buy in NZ, and this young Welsh distillery is making some great world whisky 🥃🏴
Let your wife try the Lochlea Our Barley, it's been really appreciated by my sister and a girl friend fo mine and they don't really drink whisky. I think it's floral, fresh and easy to drink.
That Sagamore Spirit Double Oak really is something special. I'm not big on Rye, either, but that Double Oak is absolutely a mainstay in my primarily Scotch cabinet. I also keep a bottle of the Knob Creek 7 year Rye around for mixed drinks when friends are over, it's a great mixer. But if I had to pick a favorite World Whisky for the year, it's the Indri. It really surprised me when I tried some at a friends house over the summer, I went out the next day and grabbed a couple of bottles for myself... I think it's a very strong contender for best summer drinker among all of my single malts.
@FirstPhilWhisky Ha ha you replied! Thanks so much, I really enjoy your videos. I felt like this year we had heard so much about Sherry Bombs, I was certain this would be a favourite of yours. Mine this year has been the Talisker 10 year old. I'm from the North East of England, I'd suggest trying the Ad Grefin single malt from Northumberland when they finally mature a cask at their new distillery. Check it out!
It should have been labeled as "my best of 24 that I could try or afford" There are hundreds, if not thousands, of better ones that you have not even tried obviously.
What was the best non-scotch you had this year?
Michter’s 10 year & Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye at 66.20%
Sons of Vancouver Realms of Rye, Citrus & Botanicals (Release 01, Bot No: 210/303, 59.4% abv)
Powers John's Lane 12YO Cask Strength Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Bimber Canada Single cask (ex-bourbon). I got the Australian Bimber single cask (ex-bourbon) from the same series when I was in Sydney for work. The Canadian one just slightly edged it out but both beautiful bottles as always from Bimber. Was surprised you didn’t mention them at all honestly.
For me Yoichi …
I love how we have so much variety in whiskeys from around the world! So far here across the pond I've loved 78 Degrees whiskey from South Australia and Archie Rose Single Malt from Sydney

Have you ever tried anything from Westward? Incredible American Single Malts. The pinot noir and stout cask finished ones are sensational.
Not yet, but I am very keen to. Jeff Whisky raves about them.
@FirstPhilWhisky Jeff's not wrong! I got a sample of the Pinot Noir last week and had ordered a full bottle before it was even finished.
Dam. Need to try it to see if it makes it on to the 2025 list.

😅 Yeah I should get to that haha. First world proplems of me living next to a beach.
Really glad to see that top choice. Favourite distillery of mine. And really happy to see you visited the distillery. Been there 4 times, and will keep going back.

Thanks Joe!

yeah!! 1st comment!! love your videos!!
🥃🙌
I tried Saburomaru V when i was in Tokyo last week, it was great
Nice video. Lots of additional options that I wouldn't have considered before.
I assume that in Britain single malt scotch is more affordable than elsewhere in the world, does this mean that these international whiskies are more competitive elsewhere in the world in comparison to scotch than in the UK?
Just bought a really cool whisky from Italy yesterday. It’s delicious
Tried a lot of whiskey and without a doubt the Australian Morris would be the best I have tasted
Great Rye recommendation!
Hey Phil, if you love the Costwold Peated Cask and the Morris, check out Morris Smoked Muscat...similar methods of making it and insane flavours.
also, I could send you a sample if you like.
Have you tried the 8 wired whisky? It’s by one of my favourite NZ breweries and bottled at cask strength - I am being gifted one for Xmas to try myself.

Great stuff!
I really like the cotswolds sherry cask
Shout out for the English whisky winning! Amazing. I've had other expressions from them and enjoyed them, will look out for that peated single cask.
Got a couple of tasters delivered this week had the Thompson manuka smoke what a surprise that was and also the Cotswolds bourbon cask was a winner aswell

my favourites have been the Yoichi from Nikka and the Nikka Taketsuru NAS
Best thing about these two is their price back to affordable in my country.

Great selection, gonna try the Cotswolds and Knob Creek. What's the whisky box you mentioned, where can you order it?
No Penderyn whiskey. They have been smashing it for the past few years, and they picked up a few more awards at the New York World Spirits Competition 2024. There are plenty of options to buy in NZ, and this young Welsh distillery is making some great world whisky 🥃🏴
See if you can get Stauning Malted Rye, it's from Denmark and it's fantastic.
Stauning smoke is also 👍🏼.
Indri is very good! Look forward to trying the one from Nikka 🤤
Great video Phil, Thanks for the Insight..... I should send you a South African Whisky or two 😀
Millstone whisky's zuidam distillery's from the Netherlands are some fantastic whisky's.
One hundred percent, although I have only tried the 100 Rye so far, the distillery has gotten my full attention. Great whiskey
He definitely said “Laphroaig” at 11:02 😅
🤫
Yeah. Definitely. I have a Laphroaig 1/4 cask open at the moment, so I'm tempted to buy the Cotswold to give it a compare.
@ I also have a bottle of the peated cask Cotswolds and I think it’s a beauty. That distillery never bottles bad whisky
Let your wife try the Lochlea Our Barley, it's been really appreciated by my sister and a girl friend fo mine and they don't really drink whisky. I think it's floral, fresh and easy to drink.
Dingle Whiskey cask Strength versions 👌
I'll fly the local flag for 1919 Distilling's Goleta, but will also throw out Omar Harvest No. 5 from Taiwan - knocks the socks off Kavalan.
Couldn’t agree more!
My problem with world whisky is the non-existant value. Usually they are 1.5x the price of what a comparable scotch is.
コッツウォルズのピーテッドカスクは買えるんだけど、
バッチが違うんですよね…
Luv you
Try powers Irish rye
Surprising! No Taiwanese whisky, still killer line up. Lots to try
Had the Oman recently, great drop! Others have been a bit expensive for me to buy though.
@FirstPhilWhisky well Kavalan is not crazy expensive out of the Netherlands.
It really is! Agree!
Macaloney's!
Macaloney's? Wait a tick... that sounds sorta Scottish! Someone call the Scotch police!
Kyrö !!!
No South African Three Ships Whisky? Multiple world whisky awards.😢
Hundreds? Putting your liver on the line for the punters.
This better not be a 'sherry bomb'
Sherry casks super expensive for most countries. So far from it.
@FirstPhilWhisky Ha ha you replied! Thanks so much, I really enjoy your videos. I felt like this year we had heard so much about Sherry Bombs, I was certain this would be a favourite of yours. List pla
Best world whisky I tried this year was Armorik 10 year old. I just wasn't ready for how good that is
Coming from an Aussie, Morris is disgusting. It tastes like someone poured fortified wine in my whisky.
Phil, please reduce your speed of talking...relax....looks you are too stressful...love your information but your speed of explaining is too FAST~!!
Haha, I get a bit excited about whisky sometimes! I'll try to be more chill next time. Thanks for the feedback 🙏 Cheers 🥃
