Wonderful reaction! In the game Joel and Ellie encounter a group called "The Hunters" who don't have much of a backstory. Changing it to people taking over a QZ was brilliant.
In the game you can find notes and things talking about people being fed up with Fedra control and rebelling to take over but I agree, I love the extra backstories to flesh out everything.
I love that they brought the puns over from the game, they brought a nice little bit of levity each time she got the book out in the game so it was SO good that they brought it in. I can already tell that the next episode is gonna be a good one, and BIG I reckon, hopefully another XL one since they seem to be alternating between long and regular-ish length
I've been watching this show with my family who know nothing of the games and before we started I told them I could die happy if they brought Ellie's pun joke book into the show. So when she started reading from it we all cheered hahaha

Disadvantages, sound deadening (Joel already has hearing issues), escape and evasion, and the fact it is a brightly coloured target/coffin if you take a sudden, direct hit. In Afghanistan, most all of us opted to rack outside our MRAPs and other vehicles, despite the elements.
I the last of us there were multiple types of enemies. Some were infected, some were clickers, and some were not so friendly people, sometimes called hunters. And there was a multiplayer that featured PVP between the Hunters and the Fireflies.

it's interesting they made joel partially deaf in one ear considering "focusing your hearing" is a feature in the game that allows you to "see" enemies through walls. and you dont have to wait a week, new episode is on friday cuz of the super bowl. will have to wait longer for episode 6 though.
It’s because the show is more realistic, in the game Joel is an old man that is way stronger and faster than any man in their prime and in the show they have made emphasis on the characters age and shooting without ear protection does fuck with your hearing so it makes sense that after 20 years he can’t listen perfectly, especially with all the shit Joel did when he was a raider and used to kill more people.

Jeffrey Pierce, who plays bearded Perry, portrayed Tommy in both video games. Melanie Lynskey, who plays Kathleen, is a new character original to the show. John Getz, who plays Dr. Edelstein, is a veteran character actor from shows like "Timeless" and "Bosch" but is best known for the movies "Blood Simple" and "The Fly". The undulating floor implies something big underneath which is likely a spore-spewing bloater! The ambivalence you're meant to feel about Melanie Lynskey is something of a motif in the games which might be helpful to recall the further you proceed. Every altercation involves two people with their own back story. There's a story on each side of the gun. Joel has implied with silence that he has killed innocent people yet he is the protagonist because he's our POV character into the story. If Kathleen were the POV character, Joel would just be the guy who killed Brian. Something to chew on.

Joel made a mistake in treating Ellie as if it was before the pandemic. Rules have changed the same way that kids that live on farms for example are around and use more dangerous things (machinery etc) earlier. It is important that he teaches her how to use the gun the same way you would teach someone younger how to cook or drive or any other skill they are going to need.

The spoiler is showing sam aiming the gun at them which is the final cliff hanger shot of the episode in the thumbnail... Of course people watch these after they've already seen the episode or movie. But when you put it out the next day after the episode aired and lots of people haven't gotten some time to watch it yet you shouldn't have the ending cliffhanger in the thumbnail. Not everyone can watch the episodes the first night it comes out and don't wanna see the ending cliffhanger just because I went on to RUclips and her video and thumbnail popped up as recommended. Do you understand what I mean now? It's literally the day after it came out.

My only issue with this show to this point is the new character Kathleen, not that she is bad, but don't believe in her character, can't see her as an Alpha, how can she run this fraction in this world, in my eyes she looks so Beta, not like Marlene or Tess, they were some strong alpha women, you need authority in a dog eat dog world, maybe it makes more sense later, but it throws me a bit off, don't mind as an actress, just not a role like this

It is a story about the people not just a shooter game. Making it into a television series lets them show other things happening besides just fighting.

The show is pretty good but 5 episodes in its been mostly filler. Wish more happened, many of the monologues fall flat for me.
I've been suffering all my life with chronic diarrhea. This show was very insensitive with it's joke.
