I had most of the dvds shown in the video so thanks for the nostalgia trip! That beauty and the beast game scared the piss out of 5-year-old me.

could be wrong here, but i think the japanese monster’s inc minigame is trying to play ‘rock paper scissors’ with you. doing a thumbs up in response is honestly a power move

As a self proclaimed savant of DVDs I can confirm that there are a bunch of them that suck. However I have to say the ones that were animated in 3D in most cases had a lot of effort put into them. The very early 2000’s or the late 90’s had a lot of crappy ones as well. Mostly trivia and stuff like that. But also stuff that was lower quality like The Swan Princess and Happily N’ever After had dull ones as well, and yet, I can’t get enough of them! Probably the most prominent variety of dvd games have to come from The Land Before Time, and the Scooby-Doo franchise. Seriously, Scooby-Doo has a very wide range of dvd games. A lot of their stuff from the early to mid 2000’s had stuff like trivia, spot the difference, and even quick time event challenges. I definitely encourage you to do a deeper dive if you ever get into dvd games again

Great video! Could’ve used more Mad Hatter’s Virtual Tea Party but you covered so many of the games from my childhood. Also can’t tell you how relieved I am to find out the Jungle Book game is just straight up broken and that it wasn’t just 8 year old me failing at life.

I remember renting the Lion King 1 1/2 dvd back in '04 and I remember playing the "Who Wants to be King of the Jungle?" game. I couldn't get through it. But the part I remember is when you win the sixth question, she says "Back up the grub truck".

I have so much nostalgia for the Cinderella disc 2 Dvd-Rom game where you get to design your own castle, dress, and bedroom. I used to play it on my mom’s laptop as a kid and I actually felt like a princess doing so. The little movie control bar at the bottom of the screen was even specialized with its own Disney theme.
Damn, I miss early ‘00s Disney Princess media and toys so much! Idc what people say, but Aurora will always be my favorite Disney Princess.

Oh man, I am extremely nostalgic for the the Timone and Pumbaa virtual safari games. There would actually be times where I got the Lion King DVDs just to play them. One cool thing about them though is that in one of the Aladdin DVDs (Return of Jafar I think) would actually reference those games. It had a virtual flying carpet ride and at one point Timone would show up having no idea why he was there and Aladdin having no idea who he was.

@@rolandspeak There's also a Stitch cameo in the virtual safari for Lion King 2. You're like up in the mountain and you can see him riding a spaceship.

@@rolandspeak Ok, so I looked it up. It's actually in the Aladdin special edition DVD. Not the return of Jafar DVD. It's called Aladdin's magic carpet ride.

I've been researching visual novels, interactive movies, and DVD games recently. I'm always happy to chat about them. Beyond DVD-I, and special features packages, I think the D&D: Scourge of the Worlds interactive movie was pretty cool. Of course the Visual Novel genre hit DVD too--expecting rental stores to rent them often.

God... I remember these growing up. I have a lot of fond memories... but also a lot of frustration. I never beat the Aladdin game for example because I struggled with the Cobra Rhythm game. I dunno if it was me being 6 and not knowing what a Rhythm game was??? Or controller input/the game problems. Or BOTH... but I could never beat the game.
And then there was Beauty and the Beast. It took me FOREVER to beat that one for many reasons. Half of it was actually the sense of dread and terror.
Like, it's WACK how many of these games, (especially with Timon and Pumbaa's safaris growing up) have this... very specific horrifying atmosphere. Like 6 year old me was TERRIFIED to die! And the cheap CGI and the dark lighting especially made it all the more horrifying. I laughed out loud when you showed the clip before the safari. Puma just straight up TELLS you you're going to die which is WILD.
But I remember the day I finally beat the Beauty and the Beast game. Felt like a damn champion. Conquering my worst fears XD

Toggle Aspect Ratio! Almost as cool as the camera pan button that was not used in many DVDs at all.

Y'know, I never had the best of luck with DVDs; Most of the ones I got would get all scratched and stuff within an approximate minimum of 40 minutes from the date of purchase. My 40th anniversary Jungle Book DVD won't even go past the main menu, pausing and stuttering at the "ce" of The Bare Necessities song, just to give one example; A more recent example would be when I got We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story, and the DVD started randomly pausing during the climax of the movie (this also applies to all the game's I have as discs as well, such as those on GameCube and Wii. I'm quite doubtful about the lifespan of a DVD, because to this day; Although a lot of my discs got some bad scuffs, all of the VHSs and game cartridges I have still work, all the way back to The Lion King VHS I had since I was 3. There's still a good novelty to the included games and such, undoubtedly; My favorite might have to be the board game one on the DVD for Lady and the Tramp II.
Also a weird tidbit; I never owned a Disney DVD that had "Easy-Find Menus".

The monster's inc and incredibles database features look pretty sweet not gonna lie. But the best DVD game is still tomb raider angel of darkness on DVD where you can watch someone else suffer through playing angel of darkness instead.

13:47 so I checked the end of maurices workshop and turns out ya had the exact correct order!
So that means the DVD must have screwed or janked up hard for that result to happen 🙃🥲
(With me watching it further turns out ya glitched the 1st and 2nd questions/obstacle courses)
