How are you going to condition the dog to watch the arm with the weapon?

It’s an interesting question and possibly one for my trainer. I would believe this would be to always hold the weapon in the protected arm. It is my belief that the dog will mostly be attracted to the moving (therefor threatening) arm OR the nearest one to them. From what I have seen with every dog at training, they hit the arm that is closest & presented to them (the protected arm), this keeps the handler at the furthest possible point from the attacker. This is not to say a dog wouldn’t come out and latch onto the weapon arm if they felt it was required.

My trainer charges £40 a session. So there’s no excuse not to go once a month. Cheers for you feedback over the last 6 months, it’s been appreciated 👍🏻

Yeah, apologies mate. I will do a quick video later to explain. Nothing is wrong. There won’t be videos for the next few weeks, but will see if anyone is interested in a live video. If there is enough interest I will do it..

No worries. It obviously differs from trainer to trainer, but I think £40 is about the going rate. Mine is £40 for 5hrs, so price may depend on length of session too. 👍🏻

Obedience is poor. Dog can't even down first time when told. Grips are weak. Dog looked unsure and came off the bite multiple times. Doubt that dog would take any pressure if it had to defend you. Sorry mate, but for a working security dog it's just not good.

So what your saying is I need to do more Continuation Training?

@@MichaelWakleySmith Sorry for the negative comments but I've been following your stuff and respect what you're doing but expected better. I'd say your OB needs alot of improvement. Looked like he was pulliing ahead, wouldn't even down when told and there's hardly any engagement. And the bitework just isn't great. I'd stop outing him for a while until you sort his grips out then bring that back when he's biting better. Also, train him on covert equipment as it's unlikely an attacker is gonna come at you in a massive bitesleeve! I'd recommend a better trainer too. Not sure that fella is right for you.

I respect at this time he wasn’t going to win any prizes for his work, I get that. This video was also over a year ago, so if you have being watching me for while, maybe you have seen the improvements from what’s in this video. Just remember that at this time I was sharing my journey as a handler only 6 months into the job. In terms of the trainer, he is good and has made me the handler I am. There is more to a trainer than what someone’s dog turns out like.
I would like to think this isn’t an argument but a discussion. Sharing a long journey with a green handler and green dog is always going to be slow progress with good and bad spells of training. If I only uploaded all of the good stuff, I would be a fraud and new handlers that watch my stuff who are struggling, wouldn’t understand that it’s part of the process.

@@MichaelWakleySmith Yeah, that's a fair comment 👍🏻 Could you recommend a newer video so I can see him now. Would be good to see his improvement.

Here is a CT session from 5 months ago. My content isn’t flooded with protection work, but I think this is one of my most recent uploads.
