  • Keeping an eye on the concentricity of your brass cases and loaded rounds is a good practice to ensure consistent results. The main goal here is to identify and eliminate factors that might induce runout.

    Nice comparison, thank you👍 my Sinclair works okay for me. I like your suggestion to swap the dial on it.

    Great review, thanks. You totally nailed my main complaint about the Sinclair. And I made it even worse by buying it with an extra digital gauge, which is actually totally unreadable because of the angle you describe, plus I have tall sitting height. I put the analog gauge back on, and then angled the base by taking a large aluminum bin barrier for a 5.5” x 10.5” Akrobin and turning it upside down, bending it another 5 degrees or so to increase the angle, then fastening the Sinclair stand to it with removable two sided tape, with the narrow part of the barrier out front (I put a plastic edge guard on it.)
    Now it angles back nicely and makes the tool much easier to load rounds in and view.
    In hindsight, since I have the Redding case neck sorting gauge which has about a 30 degree viewing angle and is very easy to read, I think I would have purchased the Redding slant bed concentricity gauge for about $60 more, but this workaround works great on the less expensive Sinclair. Thanks again!
    P.S. Brownells only charges a $30 differential between the digital and analog gauges for the Sinclair, but charges over $60 if you buy the digital gauge separately, so I should have purchased that on Amazon; had no idea I was overpaying so much.

      Thanks for sharing! Glad things worked out for you. I really do like the simplicity and form factor of the Sinclair and believe it is worth the effort to make it work!
      Offering these with a digital gauge is a really weird marketing move tho!

    Very nice comparison. Maybe get some steel or aluminum blocks sawed into a triangle for the Sinclair if you have it and it would be much better. The Redding sure looks like the winner here tho.

      Thanks for the feedback! The Redding is the most refined design. But due to the way I have my gauges setup, I have to admit that the Sinclair is the one I use most frequently. It's so compact, easy to adjust and work with.

    One concentricity guages is there any way to correct of run out on the guage. What I mean is because on the hornady I was reading it has a feature you can push the bullet in the direction to straighten it our but the other guages it looks like you can't.

      I don‘t think the models I showed here can do that.
      But I also highly recommend against doing that. Runout is usually caused by a misalignment of the case neck with the case body. You aren‘t going to straighten that out - just cancel out misalignment with more misalignment. What I suggest is using these gauges to find and eliminate the root cause of the runout.

    My Interapid dial test indicator did not come with a stem that clamps to the dovetail. That seems very useful!

    Good idea changing the out that dial on the Sinclair, I don't know but there seems to be some standardization with these gauges at 3/8" I'm assuming that you may be able to buy other attachments and get that dial exactly where we need it
    anyways thanks for the video

      Glad you like it. Using a standard dial in that orientation made it very hard for me to use it efficiently!

    use 4 or 5 glued popsicle sticks and a rubber band to turn case

    Who makes the gauge on the German unit? I like the swinging arc indication on it.

      It‘s an older model from Mahr Germany that I got second hand. Really neat but even the used one cost me 150€

    Where did you get the digital gauge?

    • @GunWodan
      @GunWodan  Год назад +1

      Got that one used on ebay. Gave up looking for a cheapo China gauge that does these Min-Max measurements so bit the bullet and got that Mahr model. There‘s plenty of name brand alternatives but prices for these can be brutal. Paid about 150€ for that one

    Stellen Sie die Messuhr so ein, dass die Nadel bei gespannter Patrone nach unten zeigt, dann werden die Messungen kaum unter Paralax leiden.

    • @GunWodan
      @GunWodan  2 года назад +1

      Das ist ein guter Tipp, in der Praxis aber damit verbunden, dass ich zusätzlich bei jedem Kaliberwechsel die Messuhr neu feinjustieren muss um die Ausrichtung der Messnadel wieder zu korrigieren.

    Where can I get a digital runout meter 0.0001" that is cheap but reliable ?

    • @GunWodan
      @GunWodan  Год назад

      The real problem is finding a digital gauge that supports Min - Max measurements. There are plenty of useable 0.0001“ digital gauges on ebay but they are useless for runout measurements without the Min-Max option.

      @@GunWodan Thanks GunWodan, good to know. I'll continue my search. Do you know the Redding gauge's shaft size for holding the gauge in place - either in mm or inches please?

      I understand the shaft/stem size is 3/8"
