£140 is very expensive for a 2 meter strip of lights but the black Friday deals have made this really tempting for £87. I like these way better than typical LED lights due to the gradients you can create.
Hi Justin, £130 here in the UK for a piddling little Hue 2 metre gradient strip with just 3 zones and then another £50+ for each extra metre. This compared to around £30 / £40 for the Govee 5 metre RGBIC strip with multiple zones, Wifi, bluetooth connectivity, a fantastic app and Alexa and Google home functionality. I think given the huge price different and, if you're going to go all Govee in one room for instance, you can quite easily forgo Zigbee. It also explains why Govee are making huge inroads into this market. If you're not worried about wifi, alexa, the' bluetooth only' equivalent models are cheaper and have all the colour functionality. Philips seem to behaving as if they are the only player in the market still. Perhaps in a Black Friday sale but not at that price. It probably is a nice well made bit of kit but the price!!
I bought a govee light strip and TOTALLY regret it. It has lost its stickiness and is coming off, and doesn't work with alexa anymore - and I'm not the only one with these problems. Although philips is premium price I have never experienced problems with it like i have with cheap govee
I have GoVee in my office at home. 3yr later some of the colors are dieing and what was white is now green and blue dots. Switching the house over to Hue. It's CRAZY expensive but I am hoping in the ling run it's worth it. I also like all the switches with hue.... Though I wish they fit a standard double/tripple gang designer plate. I hate having to take a dremel to Lutron plates at $16+ to get a fit.
bit of late comment for this video but cant find the answer anywhere, can this ambiance strip be used with the Hue Sync for PC? I currently use the old style Philips hue strip but want to upgrade.
I'm glad I watched your video. Although I think it's way too expensive, I was thinking of buying one for an area at my home that would be awesome... until you mentioned there are only three zones. Based on pictures I was under the impression there were at least five or so, which would have been great. But three is a no go for me. And due to what you said, it's not adopting to the length? I have a professional lighting company for over twenty years. I did an install in 2005 with a 15 meter led curtain wall (15 meters of white curtains, which changed colour due to leds underneath). That whole wall adopted automatically to the length... per led. That's 16 years ago! Haha. During construction they decides to add 2 extra meters of moulding and curtains, so we added 2 meters of leds, hit calibrate and all the effects were adopting to that new length within seconds. I think sometimes it's amazing how fast technology changes, but sometimes it's also amazing how little great solutions get adapted. The controller we used back then was not even 80 euro and did it's job in a huge discotheque for many years and could even be completely programmed in the large light show by dmx. Kind of weird that a gradient light strip from 180 euro nowadays still only has three zones.
Great video!!! I have a couple of question, Does the tv lightstrips work the same way as this lightstrip? Does it have 3 sections to set them in different color?
Hey mate, sorry if I’m late to this. I would like to know how long each cut is. Is each segment the same size as the previous hue light strip? My monitor is not quite 1m in width (probably 70cm). Would really appreciate if you could answer. Thanks!!!
Hey justin, great content as always. Can you confirm that you can cut this strip like the others? Is the length you can cut it same as before? And how do you cover the open end part?

I would like to know this too. As I have a 75" Hue play gradient strip and would like to fill the bottom portion of my TV with this new gradient strip but would only need about 50" instead of the full 80". Does anyone know how far apart each cut seems are?
How much was the one you demonstrated in the kitchen? I just want an easy simple one with three different lights either the very same or a different one what is the cheapest price for an Android phone Nokia 11
Need some advice. I'm looking to add lights to an inside edge of a headboard with shelving. My intent is to have acustomizable colors. The headboard needs to have a 90 degree turn and twist, so I'm looking for something I can bend or cut and reconnect. What are my options?
Hi did you ever find out once cut can you re-join and extend it again ? Like the V4 can. But no one not even hue can tell me there ussless to get ancer from if you can let me know please thanks 👍😁
If you cut these short would it mean one section of the 3 gradients will be shorter than the others? you cant set the distance between the sections in one light strip right? My tv cabinet is 180cm long so would need to cut off 20cm but would it make the last gradient section smaller than the rest? hope that makes sense!
Can you install this to the back of a 43” TV? I mean getting a 2m gradient ambience strip + 1m extension for top, bottom and 2 sides. Is this possible to sync with the hue sync app and HDMI sync?
They make a different product specifically intended for that, it's name is also hue gradient but instead comes in lengths depending on the size of your tv.
Is there a way to make "dumb" lights compatible with Philips Hue. I know its possible with the wallplug but I cant use that on my bathroom mirror that uses a tube light and I cant seem to find a solution. No smart tube lights exists as far as I know and the Hue Wall Switch Module is not intended for that purpose. Are there any Zigbee wall modules that can turn on and off the power through Philips hue App?

Hi Justin, I bought a Philips Ambilight TV, one of the 8807 ones. It has 3-sided ambilight support. I eagerly bought a gradient light strip for the underside and placed it on the TV stand, i.e. under the TV. However, the gradient feature is not active when working with ambilight. I saw that the gradient feature is active in your video, am I wrong?
Thanks for the video but it would be better if you explained how to navigate to different settings. For example, how can I sync this light with my TV? Where is the option for it inside the hure app? Also do I need to have a Hue sync box for this strip light to work with my TV?
Quick Question: I've already got 9 lights in my entertainment area. As you can only have 10 lights in one entertainment area that will sync and want to place this around my sofa for full immersion I will require 4M. Does placing an extension on the strip class it has one light or 2? Need it to just class it as 1 in order for it to sync.

But to be honest with the three zones it still uses all of the zones on the strip
I read that these can be cut, how does that work exactly?
wait nvm you mentioned that in the video lol oops. is it at every 13inch that you can cut it? or something else
@@lucymorningstar2826 did you ever find out the answer to this? I need to cut it shorter for the bottom of my TV.
@@volcalstone I had to do some research on Reddit and yes you can cut it however it is very risky because the indicators of where it should be cut are not correct and will ruin the entire gradient effect
Awesome mate, are you still gonna do any hue vs govee comparison videos, everything I have is philips hue, don't wanna really move away but govee are so much cheaper
im in the same boat as you!
@@RonaldMcMartin yeah at the minute, my whole living room is philips hue, and I use the scenes on the philips hue app and other apps to control all the lights, so if I throw govee in the mix, don't think I could use one app to control them all
Hi fab vid i got mine for 90 on ebay 👍😉 btw do you know how to.re join them once cut i cut mine but no idea how to join again even tho youtube says you can but NO ONE showing how or what you need its very odd if you know please let me know thanks 👍😉
im not sure, I only have one strip at the moment. Anyone else know?!
@@Justin_tech Nope no one knows strange as it says you can but philips dont show how or what to do very very odd indeed lol 👍😁
I streamed from my phone to sonos and didn’t have an issue.
We love HUE!!!!! Why so quiet? We need reviews on the latest nHues... (news?) Miss hue!
hahaha awwww I mis hue too! I'm over on CNET coming out with more tech videos - all my vids from there are at the top of my channel in a playlist - come watch :) ALSO, follow me on insta for more up-to-date stuff - @Justin_tech
Hey justin. I was wondering if I could use the 40 inch extension for the bottom of my tv without purchasing the 80 inch? Would this work?
Nope you cant
Is it possible to adjust the brightness for each of the 3 zones?
Nope!
my guy is on CNET...lol Good Shiet man. Congrats.
Feel like spotify thing is cool but the lights seem dim
Glad I didn't buy into the hype when they first came out. Looks like Philips perfected it.
Forget those prices!
You can control lights with google assistant
yep!!
How many bridges do you have with this many Hue Products? 🤔
Right for hue hehe
So I’ll wait that’s a lot to get it to look nice you will spend a pretty penny
Good Metal Detector
Having only 6 light settings in music sync is so annoying.
In Calgary AB Canada... Philips Hue products are basically non existent. You can find the bulbs... that's it.
Why is it that everytime I go to sub on a great content creator... I notice they seem to have exited the creator scene? Was just about to sub when I saw there hasn't been a new video in over a year. Ugh.
Sorryyyyyyy I’m on CNET now ;)
Hudson Terrace
At last!
Definitely half baked with only 3 zones, and completely over priced.... Phillips seem to be totally clueless.....
What happened to this guy? Did he pass away?
I'm alive hahaha - worked at CNET, bunch of new videos at the top of my channel from there. But I'm back and at it here now :) Stay tuned!!
soo you did spend alot of money in philips hue strips for less features than wled?! Ypu pay more for less :')
Nice product. Adhesive on the back is absolute dogshit and a complete waste of whatever resources went into placing it there. Make sure you have or buy some solution for sticking the strip down.
Please trim your mustache. It is bothering me
It’s a mole
Sonos is not leading anything. Maybe for gays
Still mustache not fixed lol
Dude I have a mole. I shoot in 4K. Go full screen.
@@Justin_tech LOL great response my dude!!
