I loved seeing that painting so I'm glad I finally got to hear the true story behind Margaret's work. I'm so glad she stood up for herself 💕 She's a genius!

So sensitive, so sweet, soft spoken gentle soul. Unfortunately as it often happens gentle souls often fall a victim to a covert narcissists. She was fortunate enough to escape unharmed and alive after 10 years of abuse and torture.

that idiot keeps putting his fingers on this amazing art - even after he got paint on his finger from one. smh. but Ms. Keane and her work are both a pure delight.
Yes! Unbelievable macho guy! In fact he devalued her on another level but still similar to her own husband. Awful behavior, also in the beginning how he grabs her microphone. A very respect less person.
If she ever painted a self portrait she would have to paint her eyes the biggest by far as she seems to have a huge soul! She seems like such a lovely person! Walter was so blessed and lucky to have caught her eye and to have spent any time with her! But he must have the smallest eyes of all or blind with no eyes at all! What a fool!
Too bad I wasn't even born yet, I love those big eyes pictures. No wonder her ex-husband Walter took advantage of her, she is so soft spoken and if he is anything on how he was characterized in the film "Big Eyes" he was a snake a fraud. I am glad she finally spoke out and told the truth. Also she mentions she took the check from the guy that was a FBI fugitive and she says he looked honest, with that alone you can tell she is terrible judge of character. Too bad a woman in those days needed a man to "protect her" even the catholic priest said something of the like excusing Walter's lies. I am on eBay seeking some Keane paintings....
The one at 8:34 my grandmother had a small print of that painting in her apartment. I remember it so much growing up. She was also a JW like Margaret and my grandmother's friends were also friends with Margaret which is neat. Not sure if they ever met, though.
Margaret Keane endures a lifetime of men speaking for her. Mike Douglas asks her questions only to talk over her and to not even let her answer a few of them. And asking for the camera to zoom in on the woman holding the painting, such blatant objectification. Margaret encounters one repulsive man after the other.
Men can't do anything right when it comes to women. I agree 100% that there are terrible men out there, but you feminist take things too far and scapegoat men who are decent. This modern feminist movement is trying to psychologically "castrate" men!!!
+TheOldOakSyndicate Probably because we women can't seem to do anything right in the eyes of you "men." If we are raped, then we must have "asked for it". I could go on, but you've probably got the point. Wow, Merv Griffin. I used to watch with my mom after school. Margaret Keane, one of the most sought after MCM items. Her story is so (Netflix)typical of what many many women did and endured. Umm you know like today💃
I've been to Ms Keane's House a few times as a Kid. They wanted me to get involved with the Jehovah's Witnesses, but mom said NO. Thank God she intervened.
There was a painting “showdown” set up at Union Square in San Francisco. It was publicized, reporters present, etc. Walter was a “no-show”. I don’t believe that was shown in the movie. Years after this appearance on Mike Douglas Show there was a court case (in 1986) to decide who really was the artist. The judge gave both of them an allotted time to produce a painting in open court. Margaret finished hers in just under an hour. Walter produced nothing at all. He claims to have shoulder issues from injury or bursitis etc. Based on that the judge determined that Margaret was the actual artist of the artwork. That was shown in the movie.
I have a drawing by Margaret kane that I found at a second hand store that I love, and the little ballerinas in the drawing look like your work. Would this be yours? You can look right through them.
